Sakurai himself said he wants everything to be a surprise and not spoiled. So tell him that.

Sakurai, the guy who is explicitly planning to reveal every character & stage before launch, leaving no surprises to be had? And to be frank I think Sakurai's response to cutscene being leaked / 'spoiled' online was a bit ridiculous.

We are going to learn about the contents of this direct at one point or another. The direct isn't this holy grail of delivering said information

1 - What software drought are you talking about?

2 - I don't see Nintendo switch online being an issue (for now)

3 and 4 - How the hell is that his fault?

I agree with your points on 1 and 2, but just because 3 and 4 aren't his fault doesn't mean they aren't making things hard for him and the whole team. Just unfortunate circumstances that might certainly have an impact on someone's experience as CEO.

That's generally what people mean when they say software drought. Not necessarily heavy hitters just like those two but AAA in general.
Sure, but we are getting Pokémon and Smash this year. Those easily compare to BOTW and Odyssey, and of the NSMB Deluxe is true, then you have three big games names compared to last year's 4, which hardly deserves to be called a drought.

It's my opinion in general that comments about this year's lineup have been more negative than warranted when looking at the actual titles released/releasing.

I didn't say it was his fault. In fact I believe all of these circumstances are the result of factors beyond his control, which is why I said he's been having a tough first period.

When Nintendo re-announces the date and time for the direct, we're fine with there being a specific spoiler-free thread for discussion made if that is something that people are concerned about.

In the event that there is more major leaks and Nintendo has not re-announced the direct, we will also allow a spoiler-free thread at that time, provided that the thread is cleared with staff first.

Given that this thread is pulled in two directions, we're reopening the original direct announcement thread for more general Nintendo talk so this thread can remain more serious.

I'm trying to understand on a conceptual level what would even be the point of such a thread? So we're talking about a place where people can continue to post hype train gifs and speculate about surprises that the rest of the world already knows about?
I don't care if this spoiler free thread should be a thing or not, but I have to say, you have a point and you made me laugh lol

Well this year has had more ports, that is factual. It just depends in your taste in games though. 2017 for me from nintendo dominated, while I have yet to get one nintendo game this year.

Except for their hit console that's generating tons of profit with plenty of hit games to come. Like he's overseeing Nintendo at their height right now nothing about this is tough.

It's been a quiet summer imho but in a month we'll be out of it. So I have no complaints.

Which can probably done within the next two weekdays depending on the reason it was delayed. If the delay was because of a game I imagine it would not be to difficult to get this done within the nest couple of days. If it was to give people time off in Japan to visit love ones or something like that then it would be a bit harder
Certain announcements may be tied to the Direct itself, and each individual announcement may have different dates and conditions for each region Directs cover, and since Directs across regions tend to feature as many of the same announcements as they can that make sense, that's yet another thing to coordinate. Combined with the typhoon that just called for the evacuation of over 1 million people on the west coast and the 6.7 earthquake that struck the northern region, I'm sure Nintendo is carefully trying to balance between these devastating events and advertising their products. I don't think their main goal is to rush the Direct out ASAP, especially if any of the featured announcement focus on natural disasters, because that may reflect poorly both socially and business-wise.

An insider said that a game's content caused the delay due to sensitivity reasons. SMTV, which is going for a disaster angle, is likely that game.
SMT games are always about a disaster in Japan (except for Strange Journey). That said, with those screenshots I can definitely see your point. Although it would be surprising to see SMTV in the direct, usually Atlus doesn't divulge new details about their games on other people's events. The last time they did that was the Nintendo Switch Conference, where they revealed the game but hadn't called it V yet.

People are speculating on it because a credible source said that a certain game was a good reason to delay it in the current context? I don't see a problem with that when someone actually had evidence behind that. Regardless of game content, it's still the right call to delay the Direct.

my problem was the wording of saying "this is what to blame" for the delay. Given the circumstance

but anyway, it's already done with.

It's not SMTV. Drop that track, it's not something that big.

EDIT : not saying that SMTV can't be in, but it's likely not that game both Stealth and LKD are referring to.
Do you actually know something?

As much as I would want it to be SMTV, Atlus generally doesn't show stuff in other publishers events, so it would surprise me if it's in the Direct.

and what about spoilerphobes that wanna stay 'spoiler' free 'til the game's release, we not gonna go out of our way and tiptoe around discussions people want to have?

The idea that, say, seeing that amazing Simon reveal cinematic was significantly less exciting because of speculation and/or leaks beforehand (fake or real) is ridiculous to me

Besides, when that trailer aired they said the game had barely started development. Even in the best case scenario it's a holiday 2019 title. Probably 2020 knowing Atlus.

It was hype for sure but it had definitely been even more hype for me if it was unexpected. Don't think that is hard to understand either.

Yeah I agree the game is still a long way off. I think we might get another trailer this year, at least as a drip feed for hype, but yeah I'm not even sure we would see gameplay this year.

To the point of needing a specific thread and acting all sour grapes (not targeted at you specifically) over spotting a 'spoiler' thread title on the front page of resetera? Think this is a agree to disagree situation

Well I wouldn't use such a thread, but if we have people who are planning to basically turn off the internet until the direct and they want a safe zone to talk in I don't really have an issue. The mods have made their statement on this now tho so whatever.

I'd hardly classify LKD as legit, more of an embarrassment. In any case, if there is indeed a game that caused the delay, unless it's coming out this year, I can see this delay being a way to edit the game out and just announce it at a later time instead of still announcing the game after a short delay.

For anyone who wants an update on the situation, power has already been restored to 410,000 Hokkaido homes and the goal is to have 1.2 million homes powered by tomorrow morning.

Just checked that article, and it is now saying that 964,000 have power again. Not only that, but "a thermal power plant and hydroelectric power plants had been brought back online, supplying about 470,000 kilowatts of electricity".

Great news to see power being restored so fast! I hope that the people missing and injured are okay...

4 WHOLE PARAGRAPHS. Lol

If a particular game caused the delay, it wouldn't be something unheard of. Pokemon has had various examples of this:

1) Whiscash episode on Earthquakes was delayed due to an earthquake.
2) Team Plasma vs Team Rocket two-parter was delayed due to the city destruction showed in the episode. IIRC, the episode was supposed to air in the week after Fukushima.
3) Skrelp/Dragalge episode that involved a shipwreck was delayed due to the Korean ferry accident.

A produced TV-episode that airs in a kids-oriented timeslot on TV and a promotional video on YouTube are not quite the same thing.
