Destructoid got a review copy for PS4.

None of the reviews I've seen have mentioned the differences in framerate. Guessing nobody knew about it up until now and nobody got both versions for review? That's kind of shady.

I don't care for this game but "Street Fighter V's initial release look bountiful by comparison" is complete bullshit.

I was looking forward to this for the more simplified controls. Guess I'll wait for Smash.

If you want good fighting game on the Switch with simplified controls that work well with the systems lack of a real d-pad, check out Blade Strangers. Runs great, has the same kind of easy special move inputs, and definitely has more depth in comparison to this game.

Definitely- this game doesn't feel like it's missing anything. It's absolutely a complete package.

Only NISA would send review codes for the inferior version of the game. What a screw up.

I question your ability to grasp "depth" in a fighting game when your review doesn't show any complex combo. The game is casual friendly but it isn't shallow by any means.

The video isn't a review?

Outlets request which version they want. NISA sent out code based on that request. If an outlet wanted Switch, they got Switch. If they wanted Ps4, then they got PS4. It isn't shady.

^ This.

I gave both versions on request. Unfortunately we don't usually get enough codes to give everyone every version, especially one that was as requested as this one was. Nor was every outlet interested in reviewing both versions.

Can you give an information about the Playstation version ? I cannot find it on the PSN store yet. Is it going to be available later today or tomorrow ?

Game's out September 7, so you should be seeing it tomorrow.

any word on more patches for the switch ver?

No idea, I am leaving that to other divisions right now (I'm swamped with the other titles we have coming out in the next 4 weeks).

"The amount of content is anaemic, making Street Fighter V's initial release look bountiful by comparison."

Dear god, there is no way it's true.

Game that focused more on boobs than gameplay options is ridiculously shallow ?

I am SHOCKED

I know, I'm not sure what people expected. It came with the standard set of fighting game modes, why anyone was trying to hold it up against an NRS game or Smash which has buckets of money I'll never know. People need some perspective.

PS4 version just arrived!

FFp25pml.jpg

This is the first LE I've purchased from NISA. Pretty high quality. Small box, but lots of stuff inside!

V3FVPS4.jpg

Waiting for the install to complete before I can try the game- it installed to the PS4 in a few seconds, but in-game it says it has install additional data.

Considering I was getting this for a variety of reasons, playing it seriously like SF/VF/DOA not being one of them, I'm fine with the Switch version I preordered. It will likely only ever be played docked anyway, since our Switch stays docked 99% of the time. If I enjoy the game itself enough for a later PC port (that will likely happen) I'll double dip for the performance benefits.

The CE looks so nice. Mine's on its way. Really like that box and I'm glad this has an artbook too.
Also, seems like the soundtrack is sizeable as well, which is great.

I don't care for this game but "Street Fighter V's initial release look bountiful by comparison" is complete bullshit.
This.

The game is allowing for certain modes to be played while it installs. Just went into training mode, and-

Playing this on PS4 after playing this on Switch is like night and day. The PS4 version loaded about five seconds faster, has much better image quality, and most importantly...is clearly running at a rock-solid 60 FPS. It feels much, much smoother and as a result, also feels much better to play. Switch feels almost kind of "jerky" in comparison.

There may also be people who'll buy this game to get their anime tiddies to own the libs – and that's fine.

What a bizarre comment. This is reaching to say the least, unprofessional at worst. It just doesn't make sense, not everything is politics. Get off Twitter for a day, holy shit.

So what are my options if I want a casual fighting game, meaning not too complex moves etc. ?
Dragon Ball ? The last Arcsys mixing Persona and two other licenses ? The demo of it on switch was enjoyable.
Oh, forgot to say I am not intersted in MK and have very little for Injustice.

I doubt this can even scavenge some semblance of dignity by being called a cult game with a cult following either, majority who's played it is saying it's shallow. Sure they may not be experts but it doesn't paint a good picture.

So with KOF14 not having a high userbase and shunned by most tournaments for a long time, it's run finished in the western FGC, this probably not reviewing well/sales/tournaments, SNK is really hoping the next reveal will be a hit. Otherwise take a time out SNK.

This game is probably the easiest to pick up and play out of anything recent. If you want something a bit more complex, but still very easy to start playing, check out Blade Strangers. Would put BlazBlue Cross-Tag Battle higher-up on the list, followed by Dragonball FighterZ.

If there really is no OT, could throw one together eventually. Or can help anyone who might be interested in making it.
------

As far as the depth of the fight system:

I get the feeling this will be a lot like Blade Strangers. It appears crazy plain and shallow at first, but once you know how the game moves, and understand it's structure, you'll see people build gameplay around it's systems. Rather than complaining about how it doesn't work like everything else out the box. Use and storing of items for combo breaks and control, tagging, and meter management will bring it a different pace as it evolves.

------

SNK / NISA really are dropping the ball, by not having the DLC plans more in place and visual by now. Just the very worry that the lack of more details might mean we'll be paying more than expected within days of release isn't a good look. It's not like there haven't been enough web specials and trailers to provide these details, either. I enjoyed the panel at PAX, but definitely felt like a few more paragraphs of info could have been shared.

Oh, and the news of the Switch versions poor performance, and lack of communication about it, really makes no sense. If it was going to be so flimsy, why not get out ahead of it, and let people know the target of performance? Hiding it until others can unveil such details feels scummy. Not a good look for any of the companies involved. I think the closest we got is something about how both platforms were challenging to develop for. I mean... yeah, needed a LOT more than that!

On the positive side, I have to think the silly screenshot function will get some decent use, once people notice it's there. Using it with "SNS" services to header any SNK related post for a good while (especially with screenshots of SNK's offices included) should give it some actual purpose. I can think of so many times, when a character is buffed / nerfed, that I'd like to be able to show their reaction to such a thing. As much as streamers like to put unique title cards on their videos, and cosplayers like to imitate in-game poses and situations, it's something I don't think a reviewer would appreciate, but a fan will probably find themselves using more than expected.

I also look forward to seeing how far Co-Op goes. I saw one review mention how playing it co-op locally helped him feel that he got his worth out of it. I don't think I've gotten the option to even attempt this since... SF x Tekken? It's honestly a thing I wish games like CrossTag Battle and others would add to their feature set. The possibility of doing the same online is great too. Part of why PlayStation All-stars was a hit for me, was because it let my brother and I play online as a team, from the same console.

I don't think any reviewer has ever changed my opinions on if I buy a fighter, because... they often know less about them than I do, when they release so early. And Maaahvel VS Capcom 2 REALLY taught me that some of these games won't reveal what they really are, for weeks, if not months on in. A 10 with friends can be a 6.5 when all the cheapness sucks the fun out of it, online or off. And then THAT 6.5 can become a 9 or 10 again, if you're willing to embrace the discoveries. It feels akin to judging a Lego Set by reviewing how it's pieces look loose on your floor. You can judge how well the pieces generally fit, and if they're the right color, but those are just surface-level concerns compared to what it's like once it's all put together.

There's tons of empty spaces on the character select screen. I imagine I'm probably going to pick up the KOF/SNK characters they add, assuming they do. Crossovers not so interested. But I go into fighting games assuming there will be lots of DLC.

Lots of great points, SAB-CA!

Can definitely say that my opinion on this game has gotten a lot more positive after spending more time with it and especially after getting the PS4 version. It's much easier to pull off stuff, even with an input system as simple as this game's, with a nice, constant high framerate. Made it possible to start experimenting with longer combos involving tags and item usage.

Got into a match online after waiting in training for a while. It was a pretty good connection and felt pretty smooth. Played a bunch of matches with the other player- people are going to unlock items quick, because you get money whether or you win or lose in regular bouts, you get money. Then the next match I got into was a jerky, laggy mess. Still a better first impression than how KOF XIV started, lol.

Yup, that's the only "hint" we have, alongside Thief Arthur and the Silhouette. But it feels really odd that we don't know if there's, say, a season pass, 5 planned characters, free characters on offer... something akin to a roadmap.

It made sense with KOF XIV, since those things really seemed to be made mostly after the fact, in reaction to fan demands. The game was beyond loaded with choices out the gate, too. Here, knowing some info would help lend some substance to how much content the game has for it's initial asking price.

Like we know that SNK 40ths November release, will have 10 free games added to it post launch. We even know 5 of them already. That'll help people decide on day one, and even beforehand, how valuable it is to purchase VS other games and DLC. Wish something similar was done here, too.

Perhaps another hint of more DLC- this is a clear file with an illustration of Leona in a maid costume. She doesn't have that in-game...

https://twitter.com/hijirimagica315/status/1037712149919875072

This seems to be part of a collaboration with the KOF: A new Beginning stuff:

Noone seemed to make a fuss when this image popped up a bit ago, but you'd think they'd be perfect additional costumes. (Though I find Athena's a bit excessive for her, honestly)

Thanks and Thanks again for the impressions by the way!

I wish I could 100% play this on an arcade stick, but you have to have access to the right analog if using items.

There will be a patch coming along with the release of Thief Arthur DLC, that will make it work with Arcade sticks. They didn't mention HOW, but it's coming!

You'd think the Japanese Arcade loketest would have answered this question by now, so... yeah. I have no idea how this is still so up-in-the-air.
