Hey that's a cool thread idea.

For me, it would be a scene from the first episode of The Newsroom where Charlie Skinner has one of his first Charlie Skinner moments:

And it only gets better from there. Probably one of my favorite characters ever. Sam Waterston was the crown jewel of that cast.

lol. Nothing worse than old men who believe in their ability to fight too much. I miss when he was Jack on L&W.

Anthy Himemiya from Revolutionary Girl Utena.

lRH3ziG.jpg

When it is revealed that she had agency all along, and that instead of just being the role that she plays, she was actually a fully conscious person thoroughly resigned to her circumstances. This revelation retroactively makes her character incredibly complex, because now you know that her cordiality was instead a nearly perfect and tragic façade (because she is so successful at making herself into a thing, for the sake of others). This means that those past moments that we can now recognize as her being passive aggressive or cruel, make perfect sense, because they were the only ways she had left to express her dissatisfaction. Her veiled bitterness, or her playing at being compliant while holding herself in reserve, are basically the last that she has of her authenticity, and yet we're inclined to completely overlook it, which in a way further contributes to her abuse.

That one time Superman beat the Phantom Stranger and the Spectre in a race and God had to tell him to slow the fuck down or else he'd blow up the universe but he didn't listen.

The title says it all. After not reading One Piece for 6 years I decided to jump back in where I stopped: the middle of Punk Hazard. At this point, spoilers ahead, they run into Trafalgar Law who is seemingly working for the evil scientist Caesar Clown. Me, upon jumping back in, was reminded of this character who I didn't really care for. I had no real opinion of Law. I mean...I thought he had a nifty power, but that was it. Until, later in the arc, this happened:
Caesar futility tries to stab Smoker's heart as a final "fuck you" to the heroes, but ends up stabbing Monet's heart, thinking it was Smoker's. Then we cut to a flashback of Law giving Caesar Monet's heart back instead of Smoker's. And then it cuts to Law saying "They do say that those who do good will get good things in return" That was a pretty ruthless move that really proved this character's worth to me.
That was the exact moment he became, outside of the Straw Hats, my favorite character. I forgot how good this series was!

Anyways, what was the moment in a series where a character did something and became your favorite?

In that same arc:

When Law defeats Vergo and tells Doflamingo that he's coming for him next...while cutting a mountain in half. That was awesome.

Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The ending to The Desert. If you know the series you know the scene.

Honestly it was probably when she got first introduced since she's literally always been the best, but Toph from TLA metalbending for the first time is what 100% sealed it forever

Mr Worf... Fire!

Always loved Picard and Data, but that Riker moment where he chose to destroy the Borg and Picard... bad ass!

The Count of Monte Cristo's letter to Maximilian Morrel:

My Dear Maximilian, --

"There is a felucca for you at anchor. Jacopo will carry youto Leghorn, where Monsieur Noirtier awaits his granddaughter, whom he wishes to bless before you lead her to the altar. All that is in this grotto, my friend, my house in the Champs Elysees, and my chateau at Treport, are the marriage gifts bestowed by Edmond Dantes upon the son of his old master, Morrel. Mademoiselle de Villefort will share them with you; for I entreat her to give to the poor the immense fortune reverting to her from her father, now a madman, and her brother who died last September with his
mother. Tell the angel who will watch over your future destiny, Morrel, to pray sometimes for a man, who like Satan thought himself for an instant equal to God, but who now acknowledges with Christian humility that God alone possesses supreme power and infinite wisdom. Perhaps those prayers may soften the remorse he feels in his heart. As for you, Morrel, this is the secret of my conduct towards you.

There is neither happiness nor misery in the world; there is only the comparison of one state with another, nothing more.

He who has felt the deepest grief is best able to experience supreme happiness. We must have felt what it is to die, Morrel, that we may appreciate the enjoyments of living.

"Live, then, and be happy, beloved children of my heart, and never forget that until the day when God shall deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is summed up in these two words, -- `Wait and hope.' Your friend,

"Edmond Dantes, Count of Monte Cristo."

Druss the Legend laying out his code in The Fiest Chronicles of Druss the Legend by David Gemmell:

"Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found."

L's intro is what enticed me to watch the rest of Death Note. It's a pretty clever plan, and a great opening move in the chess game that basically encapsulates the whole show.

Man With No Name - Clint was great in Fistful, but giving him a foil in Few Dollars More really highlighted what the Man With No Name such a great character. Also helps that Mortimer is just as great

Batman - I had known about Batman as a kid, but it wasn't till that first issue of Hush that Batman became my favorite. When I think Batman, I think that image, Loeb's version of him

There are way too many to go through but some favorite moments I recall would be Luke facing off with Vader in Empire, young Link going after Ganondorf in OOT and Zoro at the end of Thriller Bark with Kuma.

For a recent one, I knew she'd be a favorite after this moment. Haha.

When Shikamaru's plan came together vs Temari, and his theme started playing.

...Best character on that show.

This is an odd one in a series with a plethora of hype and/or heartbreaking moments, but I marked the fuck out when Ed swindled Yoki out of the deed to Youswell.

Yeah, Be Thou for the People is one of my favorite epusodes of FMA and Brotherhood skipping right over it soured me on the rest of the series.

I love him, but this scene was just so damn predictable for all parties involved lol

No kidding. I just love how it captures how nonchalant he is about personal loss. His natural sense of heroic optimism. The real moment he became my favorite was him explaining his name. But since that's not really an exact moment but a few panels I left it out.

In first episode of Justified the scene where Raylan walks up to Miami gangster eating some food. That was all I needed to see to be sold on him.

That's the same scene that sold me on Rey too.

I wish Toriko had been given a decent Anime adaptation. So many moments for characters.

Monkey King Bambina's first introduction to the series is skipping mountains across their Jupiter sized world to kill time and it was all I needed.

Really, he has so many incredible moments dispersed throughout the whole show, but any time I picture him and the character of Walter White, this is the image that I see:

I agree but on the other hand.
Him beating the shit out of Overhaul for five minutes with no powers was hype as hell.

Oh yea, that was dope.

Naruto had like the best cast of secondary character and Kishi fucked it all.

Yea, a lot of potential wasted unfortunately.

No kidding. I just love how it captures how nonchalant he is about personal loss. His natural sense of heroic optimism. The real moment he became my favorite was him explaining his name. But since that's not really an exact moment but a few panels I left it out.

Just an incredible fucking hero moment. Heroism can sometimes be cheesy and corny but All Might reminds me why love everything comic book superheroes and what they can stand for when they're done right.

That and the all for one fight are some cliche in the basics, but freaking perfectly done moments. I legit watch that fight like every day lol
