Criterion Games is not as prevalent a developer as it has been in the past. Recently, they have been relegated as a support studio. However, that's not to say their work has been unimportant. They were the people behind the vehicles in Star Wars: Battlefront II (my favorite stuff from the game) and also did the VR mission in the first Battlefront (so, so awesome!). My question is, should EA let them develop a new Rogue Squadron (assuming Factor 5/Nintendo don't have any way to block development)? Maybe fully playable in VR? As a bonus, they could toss in the Starfighter Assault multiplayer mode from Battlefront II (both as online and offline/arcade).

I'm amazed that there wasn't a Rogue Squadron game to coincide with Rogue One. Even a remaster of 2/3 would have sufficed.

I don't trust EA to put out any good Star Wars games.

They should take the flying from Battlefront 2 and make a game focused on that. They did an amazing job with flying in that game.

There's been too few Star Wars games this gen, I hope what's coming is worth the wait.

I don't think there is a big enough audience for a AAA Star Wars flight game, to be honest.....particularly not if it's the arcade-y style of the Rogue series.

No. You assemble the FASA Studio guys under a new banner, the blokes who did Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge.

And you get them to make a rollicking adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

There work for battlefront 2's multiplayer space combat was beautiful and fun. I would be sad for the factor 5 people because I know how badly they want another chance, but I know criterion would killl it also. Either would send me over the moon.

As much as I enjoyed the rogue games, i dont see there being interest in them anymore, theres a whole lot of other star wars games that could be made.

100% yes.

I played Rogue Squadron 2 on Gamecube last weekend, but only got a few missions in because the controls felt too stiff.

The spaceship modes in Battlefront 2 are easily the best parts of the game, I'd love to see Criteron build a story around that gameplay.

Criterion are embarking on their most ambitious projects to date, partnering with DICE on Star Wars Battlefront II and pushing the boundaries with our own brand new IP.

We are growing our team with fresh, talented people who can help us take a huge leap forwards.

We are looking for a creative and passionate person to take the role of combat designer at Criterion. Working collaboratively with other designers, engineers and almost all other disciplines you will lead the design of combat within a AAA title.

You are passionate about:

    • Game Feel
    • All types of combat in games but in particularly melee combat
    • Action and Action Adventure games
    • Physics and physicality in games
    • Working with teams across disciplines and crafts: engineering, art, audio, QA to name a few
    • The way we create: not doing things just because that's the way we've done them before, understanding change is a necessary part of success
    • The people you work with: asking appropriate questions and being open to new solutions is key to you and the team's development
    • Generous collaboration: a desire and inherent need to work with others to achieve great things, develop new ideas and truly innovate

They do have another partnership going as well (job posted July 2018): https://ea.gr8people.com/index.gp?m...om/careers/careers-overview/worldwide-studios

    The Challenge Ahead:

Criterion are embarking on their most ambitious projects to date, partnering with another EA Studio on an unannounced title and pushing the boundaries with our own brand new IP.

Rogue One had almost nothing to do with starfighters.

But yeah, Starfighter Assault is the only reason I bought Battlefront II and I would love a whole game built from that foundation.

There was an entire extended scene that was basically one of the missions from Rogue Leader.

At this point I'd say give the license to anyone else that isn't DICE, because I just don't like any of there games not named Mirror's Edge 1.

It's a bummer how little games have come out of the Star Wars license in the day where the fan base for video games is bigger, and the technology can do more with the IP. Maybe Respawn's game will mean at least one good game comes out before the gen is over.

No.

Factor 5 have already indicated here and there that they'd "get the band back together" to work on Star Wars again, and their Star Wars games were (90% of the time) unparalleled. Rogue Leader still feels better than the ship controls in Battlefront 2 (2017).

After seeing my favourite Star Wars franchise (Battlefront) butchered when given to another developer, I don't want to see it happen to another. Especially since Criterion participated in butchering Battlefront lol.
