Looks like it had way more height fog, and particles in the E3 2017 trailer. Also looks like it had better and more cinematic lighting and of course reflections. Watching the video in slo-mo gives it away.



Not really, DF cherrypicked alot of things. This comparison is different and alot better. Its shot for shot.
You can literally watch it in slo-mo and compare each shot. For example the office running escape scene had lots of fire in E3 footage during the collapse but the final release version didn't. DF didn't mention that.

When you compare it shot by shot you realize the objects in the E3 2007 Footage and even the 2016 footage had more polygons/triangles.

Lol I don't know why some of y'all are still hung up on any downgrades. A big reason why downgrades are talked about these days is the shitshow that was the Watch Dogs reveal, and what that game really turned out to look like. There was a big difference, unlike what's going on here which appears to be super minimal.

But looking at spiderman, whatever differences there may be, the game looks PHENOMENAL on the tv. So it's like, who gives a shit what different time of day it was or what puddles may be missing, the game still looks great. May even feature the best looking urban open world game this gen (so far).

So it's really hard for me to care about any of this considering the way the end product looks.

This thread should have pretty much stopped any arguments of a downgrade, but still seems like some people seem pretty bent on changing the very definition of a downgrade

That's a shit thing to say. Dark1x has always done an excellent job in his videos, noticing things many people would miss. He isn't going to analyze every single frame of the damn game for you in a shot for shot comparison. Making accusations like you did above without proof is not cool.

Have him analyze the comparison video that IGN posted instead of cherry-picking scenes. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong.

All i'm saying is that there is alot of stuff that DF miss. I'm not calling it a bias.
I'm simply saying they miss stuff or fail to cover some stuff. Such as the amount of fog, amount of particles, density of particles, does SSR include particles in a particular scene, does particle emit/receive light, how big are the particles, how much light do the particles emit/receive.

All that stuff matters to create a beautiful scene like what was in the 2016 and 2017 video.

Oh, we have one coming this week. Doing this video in HDR wouldn't have been possible, though, without cutting out a lot of animations. Tone mapping to HDR kinda works but ruins colors. The dedicated Spider-Man HDR video will hit Thursday or Friday I think.

Nice. Related question (that maybe you can't answer): Can I view that video in HDR using the YouTube app on my HDR Android TV? I think it should work?

He posted a 31 minute video going over the flaws and the achievements of the game. He analyzed the game, edited the video and had it published on the day the embargo dropped. There's no cherry picking going on. He commented on what he saw, which was a hell of a lot. He said that the E3 demo puddle area looked better, he commented on low resolution window reflections at low levels. He did a great job. You need to take off the tinfoil hat.

Man the Pro enhancements make the game look phenomenal, but I really hope the base PS4 version looks great too since that's what I have; the comparison in the video kinda made my heart sink a bit. I wish I could afford a Pro for this :P

I gotta say that I'm just a tad bit disappointed in how few car models there are and the pop-in on the street level isn't the best. Otherwise this is a really fantastic looking game. A lot of still screens have environments that look close to real life with the right lighting!

Not too surprising Insomniac managed to pull all this off considering how great 2016's R&C looked.

THIS is the one that pisses me off. You just want to spit on someone without knowing the circumstances huh? I pride myself on being super genuine in everything I produce so these types of insults are THE WORST because it's basically saying that all that effort in withholding the up and up isn't worth it.

The Shenmue situation was super difficult due to insane time pressure and the promise of a day 1 patch that would fix things. Hence I focused on the visuals upgrades. I did the best I could in the limited time and, instead of trying to understand it, you just throw around insults. My experience was solid with the game, for the record - I tested 2-3 hours of both games across four platforms and have since finished Shenmue 1 on Xbox One X. This is a very rare situation and highly unexpected. You have no idea how much this Shenmue situation has stressed me out, though. I'm so angry about what happened there that I almost never even want to think about Shenmue again. When I look at the game, I think of all the shit I've received since that video. So I guess Shenmue is forever tainted which sucks because it was one of my favorites.

So - answer me directly - why do you feel the need to use insults like this? What is so important about this game that you NEED to make someone feel like shit? I want to hear your explanation for it. You clearly don't want actual discussion.

I hate quoting this guy but this scene looks much much worse in the final release. especially in motion. explosions are missing, the lighting doesnt illuminate the environment like it does in the E3 demo, smoke effects arent as impressive and the image is lacking that CGi look. if these are just artistic decisions, i have no idea what artist would make their game look worse.
