Wow. Quite the turnaround there. Now only the switch is getting a physical release in the west. A shame about the performance though

This was never a secret. They've been listed as the dev on the eshop from the start.

For whatever reason, the American physical PS4 release is only available by ordering the $120 limited edition box from NISA. You can also get physical Japanese and Asian region versions. The latter has English; unsure if the Japanese version has English or not.
There is no official reason but when the NISA president ran his mouth a while ago he said that SNK and Nintendo came to him wanting to make this a Switch exclusive. For some reason they couldn't make it full but they did make the NA physical a full switch exclusive. For whatever reason, the American physical PS4 release is only available by ordering the $120 limited edition box from NISA. The game ran like butt on Switch until I got prompted to download a patch. Performance is now much better and it no longer feels so jarring, but there's still something 'off' about the framerate. Hard for me to tell if it is running at 30 FPS (it definitely felt like it before the patch) or the patch did something to get it to 60 FPS (with drops when doing supers). It at least runs well on the platform but I have a feeling PS4 is going to be the version to get.
Also have no idea if I like this game or not. It's very weird. Does not play like your typical SNK game- no crouching attacks, no overheads, no variable jumps, and a block button (wut) is going to take some getting used to, even with as easy as this game is to pick up and play. The game's simplicity makes Blade Strangers look like the most complex game ever made, lol.
Tried it undocked.
Bad news- the framerate takes a nosedive. It seems to be variable and has dips all over the place. Feels like 60 FPS one second then goes down to 30 FPS another second.
Is it still playable? Yes, because of the simple mechanics. Should the game have been released in this state? Nope. No excuse for this when other fighting games on Switch have no issues with framerates.
Disappointed again. Would recommend that anyone interested in purchasing this game hold off and get it on PS4 (assuming it doesn't have these issues).
I'd be OK with it being 30 undocked...if it were smooth, stable 30. It's not.
No, it's guard button is like a SMASH game. It has a barrier, it depreciates when you take hits, and getting it broken leaves you stunned.
There are always ways to counter people blocking constantly in fighting games. That's cool! I mean that sounds cool...
I hate when people block too much in fighting games. :D
Tomorrow morning. When is the embargo up? Have there been any thoughtful positive hands on impressions of the game?
I'm a little scared.
Thanks! I'll grab a thoughtful breakfast before I decide to read them. I've read quite a bit of twitter hot takes and hope the actual reviews aren't in the same vein.
Interesting that they outsourced the switch version when they were expecting that version to sell best.

Many people consider it an acceptable compromise for playing their favorite games at 35,000 feet.
It will be nice to watch it before the Direct. Tomorrow is going to be a very good day.I'm currently putting together the Switch docked vs undocked video that will go live once the embargo lifts.
Softbody physics must be taxing too much the Tegra ;) (i kid of course)

I hope performance will get better.
It was out on the japanese eshop ahead of time, and thanks to the switch being (at laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast) region free, i bit there :)
Seems like a fair review, specially considering the shortcomings of the switch version.
This game screams "7/10" and that's ok
Swimming in 7's lol
I'm guessing there's no video recording functionOK, here's some crappy phone footage. I couldn't do much with the phone in one hand, but it's noticeable even when just jumping. Notice the framerate drop at 0:02 when Athena gets close to Nakoruru and again at 0:08 when she jumps away. These types of drops happen often.

Switch Capture feature records 30 secondsThere is, but it just lets you record a few seconds. Might be worth going back to do for a simple combo playback but I think the video of the jumping is enough to show the dips I've been talking about.
Direct-capture footage of handheld play from the Switch. I think it's harder to see frame rate drops with this footage.

Also at this point I guess we should just start posting in the review thread?
As promised: here's the docked vs undocked comparison:It looks good pretty good to me. I don't know if I should wait for a sale to buy it.
PS4 version is going to be the version to get regardless.Re: The framerate- It's not unplayable on the Switch at all, post-patch, but it just doesn't feel as smooth as it should be. If the framerate is doubled on the PS4, then there is no doubt that it will be the version to get.
