Yay. I thought that might have been the reason my 6p went from a twenty-something-hour battery life down to an eight-hour battery life on standby. Not good times.

Wait why.

Mail is just okay and gmail always finds new ways to annoy me. I can't really watch that trailer on the site for a few hours, but a quick summary of why you prefer it would be cool, wouldn't mind trying it out.

I have been using Spark for a year or so and I love it. I manage 4 different email accounts, 2 personal (gmail) and 2 business(self hosted), and I see between 20 and 50 real emails (actual human interaction) a day so I feel like I push Spark pretty hard. It is quick, does not crash, has no trouble syncing all my different accounts, an easily customized interface, and numerous swipe options for dealing with individual emails. Long story short, it is rock solid. Just download it and give it a try.

Dunno how it happened but there's a huge scratch on my screen all of the sudden. Never had a scratch like this before & for no apparent reason?

I thought the X was more durable than previous iPhones? Looking at my year old 7 which I babied consideraby less and it has zero scratches..

Bummer. I think I'm out of the 14 day exchange window too.

Same. Mine had a scratch day 1. Have had every iPhone, no issues. I got mine exchanged thankfully.

Downloaded Spark, see how it goes.

I've never been so on the fence about an upgrade. That's how Apple gets you with IUP, I guess.

Managed to grab one at Best Buy. I had an 8 and was convinced I was going to wait until next year to hop on the train, but....yeah. The 8 is probably going up on Swappa, lol.

I finally have my X, it arrived yesterday. I'm actually in love with it. Everything about this phone is well thought out, and the overall design is just sublime. Face ID works a treat, even when lying down in bed in the dark. The only snag I did hit was when first setting up my phone. My 7+ is on 11.2 beta, which is not compatible with X. Other than that, it's perfect.

I use Airmail. I've used them all at some point and this is what I've ended up with so you know it must be good.

I deleted the app when I first got the phone and I'd want to download it again except... I can't?

Is this good for battery life though? On charge, off charge all the time. So potentially it's never getting fully charged or able to 0% ofrom full. That's the thing that worries me about wireless charging. I'd be constantly pulling my phone from charge and putting it back on again every few minutes if I'm sitting next to it. But I wonder if it's doing any harm.

Yeah I honestly don't know. I tried researching and couldn't get a straight answer one way or the other. My understanding is as long as the phone isn't getting hot over and over that it shouldn't do a ton of harm but who knows. Battery replacement is only $100 through Apple so if this habit turns it to shit at least I have that option.

OK, so Mail seems smarter than Spark. I would get notifications for only important emails from Gmail, whereas it is dinging me every few seconds for mailing list type stuff.

I'm also pretty sure it ignored my Do Not Disturb settings last night too.

What is it with IOS 11 and RAM usage? Previous editions of IOS were always extremely well performing in tech comparisons with RAM usage and now IOS 11 seems to be a step back.

Isn't the 8+ and X also worse in comparison to the 7+? I feel like it's an issue with the A11. It would be interesting to see if 7 vs 8 would show the same issues. Don't think it's an issue with iOS 11 per se.
Seems like it's too aggressive.

Bit of an odd question about the exchange policy. So my iPhone arrived yesterday at my home, but I won't be back there for another 3 weeks and thus the phone will remain sealed until then. If there is any trouble out of the box, say its DOA or there's a scratch or there's dust in the camera lens, will I be shit out of luck on exchanges since the period is only 14 days?

Mine didn't get here yesterday; FedEx tracking says it was on a truck, then didn't deliver it because it was "not due for delivery" until today. Never heard of that one before (if it is already on a truck just deliver it, what the fuck) but is now out for delivery today.

Welp... ordered with AppleCare.

Edit:
Anyone get their phone early?

While I have apple care+, I saw an article on 9to5mac that made me second guess it.

  • $0: No AppleCare+ with no repairs
  • $199: AppleCare+ with no accidental damage claims
  • $228: AppleCare+ and one screen repair
  • $257: AppleCare+ and two screen repair
  • $279: No AppleCare+ and one screen repair
  • $298: AppleCare+ and one non-screen repair
  • $327: AppleCare+, one screen repair, and one non-screen repair
  • $397: AppleCare+ and two non-screen repairs
  • $549: No AppleCare+ and one non-screen repair
  • $558: No AppleCare+ and two screen repairs
  • $828: No AppleCare+, one screen repair, and one non-screen repair
  • $1098: No AppleCare+ and two non-screen repairs

Damages with AC+:
Screen: $29
Anything else: $99

Damages without:
Screen: $279
Anything else: $549
Translates into a $50 or $250 surplus risk for single accident. Honestly I think it's worth the risk of not getting AC+ if you have a good accident track record with phones and will case it up too.

The only wild card messing this up is the back glass being a "anything else" accident and hard to repair with current tech. Hopefully 3rd parties step up to the plate.
