I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dissapointed by the sudden delay but Nintendo definitely made the right call. Stay safe and recover, Japan.

Wondering what they're gonna do because there's clearly other stuff that this ties into:
-Pokemon was scheduled to have news at that Japan TV show thing on Saturday
-Pokemon Go is having big news Monday (probably won't be affected)
-Smash Blog is going to likely need to change it's schedule
-They usually hold private demos for the press, if they don't reschedule they face a strong possibility of leaks
-Other companies are involved in these announcements. I wouldn't be shocked if someone forgets to reschedule their automated tweets announcing a Switch port.

I'd be shocked if some leaks don't happen due to the reschedule honestly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they reschedule the direct for Friday

Understandable. Wonder what happens to any possible embargo's for Friday (there's one at least, could be more).

3 million houses without power. If it's because they want those people to watch their Direct, it's gonna be later than Friday.

Also, Nintendo likes to do theirs midweek. It'll be Monday night at the earliest imo, with Tuesday-Thursday being more likely.

Unfortunately, because the Nintendo Direct discussion thread was closed and redirected to this one...you are going to get responses here that would have been in there

They should have left the thread open for direct discussions (even if it is postponed)

Unless this is supposed to be the new Direct discussion thread?

Not sure what you mean by "register" here. The video is obviously completely done and ready to publish, they are delaying the presentation because the nation needs to come together to focus on relief and assistance for affected people.

I think its more a matter of respect, the Direct is already recorded. Or do you mean safety in another regard?

On top of this, I think we can expect them to take a few extra days of flexibility to reshoot/reedit anything that was originally scripted around the expectation that the Direct (and/or any immediate product releases) would land on the 6th as scheduled. Last-minute additions have happened before; the first time they did the all-digital E3 show in 2013, for instance, they shot and appended a brief statement from the show floor to assure audiences that Nintendo did indeed have a presence there, ostensibly as damage control for all the FUD going around that year about how Nintendo was "skipping E3". Here they may add a brief "thank you for your patience and understanding" message, or at the very least revisit anything announced as "available now", "next week", and so on. The video must have been in the can for a while—global announcements are mapped out well in advance—but it's probably not so simple a matter as dialling back the scheduled publication time and posting it as is, even if any changes are likely to be extremely minor.

What I'm saying is that I don't think we'll hear a revised date until next week. But it wasn't until yesterday that we had hard confirmation of a scheduled Direct this week anyway, so things could still happen on short notice once they're ready to go, and confident they've given the disaster appropriate breathing room.

Typhoon into an earthquake, damn that's rough. Guess we'll be waiting another week or so.

Maybe the Direct was showing earthquake or other stuff...? (maybe a CGI new cinematic smash announcement with an earthquake)

Or maybe.... Disaster day of crisis on switch ?

Since Directs are pre-produced, I wonder if Nintendo will edit an acknowledgement of the Earthquake and apology for its victims into the intro segment during re-scheduling.

Imagine if they did put the Direct on despite this happening? The amount of guilt we would all feel knowing in the very same place they're broadcasting this that people are dying?

It wouldn't feel right. I'm pleased they did this.

Condolences to all the victims' families and friends. Let's hope the number doesn't rise and they get all the help and support.

No one should be in these disasters.

I think it's more about respect for the tragedy, not because of the power outage in that city.

That is to suggest that as soon as they get power their first thought is to log into a live videogame event online...that really wouldn't be the case.

That's awful.

Not sure what outcome to expect of this, looks like it's not a minor quake either..

A shame, but the best course of action given the events currently unfolding in Hokkaido.

Stay safe JapanEra.

That's the first time I'm hearing about this. Got a source?

The Ultra Reward is being revealed that day. It's almost certainly either:
-Another raid day (possibly Mewtwo) or some other fun in-game event
-The announcement of the release of Gen 4 (Hinted at in the Go Fest poster, theorized to be what ArticUNO, ZapDOS, and MolTRES are counting up to)

If it's the first one, the announcement's not gonna be rescheduled (though the release of it might be). If it's the second one, it very well could be.

I really doubt there's any sort of speculation to be had about the contents as it is likely just a way to show respect. It feels sort of disrespectful to speculate based on a natural disaster at all, but especially in this thread--if you have to do it, go into the hype thread (although I still would find it disrespectful)...

i had a feel this was coming. there were too many natural disasters hitting at once. i thought the Typhoon would have caused the delay first.

hope everyone can bounce back safely.

Man, Japan is getting hammered in the past few months, nature needs to chill.
I almost flew there this month too.

people continuing the direct speculation, maybe create another thread and do that? it really doesn't seem like the place to do it.

sorry but i've read the news very fast and thought it was because of the hurricane..
edit anyway
giphy.gif

So the delay is not justified if it's hurricane, but earthquake, is justified? I don't understand you.

Anyway, Japan sure has it rough. RIP to the victims.
