This is for the best considering the current situation. Stay safe, Japan - this has been a pretty rough week.

Between the Osaka storm and the Hokkaido earthquake it's been a pretty rough time for the people.

I'm sad that the Direct is being delayed, but a 6.7 magnitude quake is no joke, and there's already a death toll. Nintendo made the right call here. Stay safe, Japan.

Japan is getting hit hard. It sucks for them and I can only hope for the most minimal damage.

Odds some media outlet misses the memo and posts about the announcements anyway?

Edit: I don't disrespect by this just genuine curiously and concern as to whether places get media packages in advance to have articles/tweets set to automatically post when the Direct would have been ending.

Is this the first delay of a Nintendo Direct? Well, it certainly took something extreme. I assume embargoes are tied to the video release and will remain in force, though I take it things may get a bit leakier than usual in the meantime.

Given that big news releases like this are an all-hands PR effort, the delay is understandable. They've got to check in on their employees first.

Man, this is the first I'm seeing of the damage done by this earthquake. This is awful. Japan is really having a rough time. :(

Woof.

Just looked this up. That sucks for anyone involved.

The delay is probably a good idea. Give it a week for things to settle, I certainly hope anyone associated with nintendo is okay (of course anyone else too).

Its just a video that plays nothing is LIVE but I understand that it can put out a message that they dont care/overlook it so I completely understand with them delaying it till like next week or whatever.

hopefully everything turns out ok all things considered.

Nintendo hype for a different day. Sucks that the earthquake ever happened and hope everyone is safe from it.

Wondering what they're gonna do because there's clearly other stuff that this ties into:
-Pokemon was scheduled to have news at that Japan TV show thing on Saturday
-Pokemon Go is having big news Monday (probably won't be affected)
-Smash Blog is going to likely need to change it's schedule
-They usually hold private demos for the press, if they don't reschedule they face a strong possibility of leaks
-Other companies are involved in these announcements. I wouldn't be shocked if someone forgets to reschedule their automated tweets announcing a Switch port.

I'd be shocked if some leaks don't happen due to the reschedule honestly.
