The Matrix and the power master upgrade are completely separate though.
I'm curious to see which G1 they go with, cause there are a lot of G1s. IDW's version is way more capable than the cartoon G1. Marvel G1 is kind of incompetent for a good chunk of the run. I mean, he let himself be killed because he won a video game in a way he didn't like.
This feels more like optimus vs Amuro. It'll depend if they feel like newtype is enough to land whatever killing blow optimus is weak to, otherwise the gundam has basic weaponry.
Huh? Guess he's moving up. I think the fact he put up so much work beforehand, with consistently good results, he's come a long way. Going to miss having him animate DB episodes.
It's really weird that they're combining stuff from the G1 cartoon, the G1 comic, and IDW Optimus. They're all very different characters. IDW Optimus is a beast, but he hasn't had the Matrix for a long time.

Basically it boils down to Optimus (and Transformers in general) being written as superheroes with feats worthy of that distinction while the Gundam (and the UC timeline) is based on reality as much as possible so its feats are much more mundane.
So with that in mind it's an obvious win for Optimus.

DBCast on YouTube. Same time stamp GNG mentioned. And so far, I do agree with the arguments in the prediction blog; no doubt Optimus has this in the bag.
And I commend you guys for the shoutout to Torrian at the end of the blog. He will be missed indeed; his animations were definitely the highlight of the show in general. Terminator vs Robocop and Deadpool vs Deathstroke are still among my top 10 favorite DB episodes.
Considering the OP vs Gundam preview, I do feel the animator is going to be a worthy successor to Torrian.

Agreed. Still figured they would've used it, though.
It also would've been nice if they kept to one version of Optimus. Like just use the original animated version (ie. TV series and movie) and not the stuff that showed up in multiple other media formats. Especially since this was supposed to be the "grandaddy of robot shows" fight.
It was fine. The first Death Battle I've ever watched. It didn't make much sense why they ended up on Earth aside from needing to move it to (heavily lopsided) a ground setting.
carnage Can't beat the vast majority of marvel.
Aside from the fact he's an antagonists, individual symbiotes just aren't that powerful in the marvel universe.
He's a threat on street level hero turf, like daredevil or spiderman, but anything past that, he's a nuisance at most.
I think most of the irritation is because most people felt the carnage Lucy fight wasn't going to be about power feats, but stealth/trickery, particularly carnages ability to infect like a contagion, which the intros did put a emphasis on... splattering carnages blood all over herself would be ruinous for lucy... but the battle completely ignored this aspect.
I think Gurren Lagann vs. Optimus Prime would be a better match-up.

He destroyed fully-powered Unicron in one-on-one combat in Transformers Energon, albeit combined with Omega Supreme and powered up by Primus.
I think he stays alive in one of the Unicron trilogy shows but I don't remember which (I know he dies and comes back in Armada).
Uhh one is a self aware machine life form the other is essentially a walking battle tank. Really depends who the pilot is, assume Amuro, and where hes at in his skill level.

I probably one of the most lopsided matchups to date. Goes without saying: a glorified military vehicle simply couldn't outbest advanced alien tech.
But the animation was absolutely stunning! These animators are definitely going to be worthy successors to Torrian!
