Considering reviews aren't out yet, I think it's worth sharing some of the communities impressions (and my own) to ERA at large.

The game so far has been very well received by fans and I genuinely believe it's the best thing Bungie has done since Reach.

Why is it so much better?

+Spectacular Campaign Missions (Especially when compared to vanilla Destiny 2)

+Interesting New Characters and Storyline (Uldrin is a suitable villain that gives you plausible motivation to press forward and the new supporting characters like the Jabba the Hut like Fallen are pretty great)

+Cool and beautiful new areas to explore/mixups to new enemy types that feel different enough.

+The Bow is really fun and makes you feel overpowered even though in actuality you are not.

+Gambit mode offers some interesting twists to PVP/PVE interaction. Creating a whole new gamemode that is a hybrid of two reminiscent of Dark Souls invasion.

+Sandbox changes to weapons and mods have restored the game to what it should be

+Tons of content for the price/value. An endless amount of activities and quests to do to keep players spinning the hamster wheel and coming back.

I know Bungie has been dragged into the mud over the past year and change because of their deservedly lackluster response to the previous expansions and updates, however I think it is worth recognizing that they have really pushed hard to turn a corner.

You can see the effort that went into this one.

Will wait a few weeks to see its staying power, but my goodness this expansion is incredible so far

oh and by making this thread, you have invited the scorn of Era

Interested to hear more campaign impressions. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the vanilla one (though I know playing solo is not what the game is all about).

A bit early to make that claim. I was in love with TTK at first but then had major issues with it over time, so... yeah.

Prepare for this to turn into a reach hating thread due to the title OP. I'm glad if it's the case that the game is as good as reach. That was peak bungie in terms of crafting good campaign gameplay and structure.

Far too early to judge it really. I've had fun working through the campaign and exotics, but Destiny 2 seemed fun at first too.

I really enjoyed the campaign. The new enemies are very creepy. Gave me the feels of discovering the flood for the first time.

The city beautiful
That's interesting. I'm waiting a couple of months until I buy the expansion. Let's see what the word of mouth is then.

Destiny 2 was plenty fun when it first came out.

The Destiny cycles continues. Destiny 2 launched to everyone saying how the fans loved it and how it was amazing. And that faded REALLY fast. Will wait a few weeks (and inevitably totally miss the zeitgeist) and check back in on opinions then.

I think Bungie are amazing at instant gratification but the long game is harder.

The Taken King was a great piece of content, but Forsaken is pretty good too.

I remember when Destiny 2 first came out, the first week impressions were off the charts glowing in the OT. That of course quickly changed. I think it's too early to make such a claim!

"It's Destiny without the bullshit." - Polygon the day after D2 came out. Sorry, but I'm not inclined to take impressions of Destiny seriously that occur within 1 day of release.

I'm sure it's good, but saying they've "turned a corner" is a bit sad considering many people said that about The Taken King, and then Destiny 2 rolled back most of those positive changes.

How long is the campaign? I Redboxed D2 so I only paid like $6 for it overall, but I still felt like it was too short and lacking in content.

I might buy this after its dirt cheap but I've already spent over 100 bucks on this scam of a game. I'm tired of buying a base destiny and waiting a year or two for the GOOD stuff (which will cost me more anyways). It does sound appealing also but I've spent way too much on the destiny franchise for what I have gotten out of it already.

This cycle seems doomed to forever repeat.

Yup I remember that too. A lot of the media were guilty of the same thing.

I'm glad fans are enjoying it, but I won't be tricked again haha.

Bought Destiny, Taken King, and Destiny 2 and felt large amounts of regret each time.

The act of releasing a mediocre game and making it good with expansions is so fucking annoying. Between Firaxis and Bungie I'm not sure who's worse.

Guess I'm the fucking idiot both times for buying Civ 6 and Destiny 2 day one :(

But Destiny 2 was destiny without the bullshit.
Thing is, people realized the "bullshit" was part of the fun.
The problem was that there was a host of new bullshit in D2 that they didn't document because they had only played it a day. I'm not saying the same will be true of Forsaken, but 1 day with the game is not nearly long enough to judge it. Let's see the raid, let's see how they handle complaints about weapon balancing etc. This is definitely a step up over launch D2 though.

As with everything Destiny, give it a month and lets see what people think.

Is Civ 6 actually fixed yet? My understanding is even with the expansion, it is not at BNW's level.

Work
I bought a PS4 and Destiny 1 on launch and cried.
I bought all the Destiny DLC... and cried.
I thought that was all I could do for them but I figured I'd give Destiny 2 a shot... Still not great. Bought the first DLC... still not great.
I'm not falling for this again.

Honestly I have moved on. I didnt play any of the previous expansions so I know I am behind and I just dont have the time for it with Fortnite consuming almost all of my gaming right now.

I really hope this pans out. I loved D1 so much and just couldn't stick with D2 due to the changes. I'd love to get sucked back in.

But as others have said, I'm going to have to wait a bit to see what people say a month from now before I decide to buy back in. The early feedback isn't really all that telling for a game like D2.

How long is the campaign? Is adding one weapon really that commendable? Does adding random weapon mods really make it interesting to keep building your character up? Is the new multiplayer mode going to be more popular than their standard pvp modes?

I got burned hard with destiny 2. I'm definitely apprehensive about the hype with this one . It looks cool from the trailers, but until it's been out for a substantial time and we know what the end game is I'm not planning on buying in again.

Vanilla Destiny 2's problem was noted by the community well before launch, and it somehow went UNDER the radar between coverage and community feedback. Although throughout 2017 Bungie was insanely arrogant and immune to feedback, doubt anything would change back then.

The campaign is really good that is undeniable to anyone who plays it. The end game grind we still have to see.

Anyone want to explain the sandbox and weapon changes?

I didn't get D2 at launch because I hated how slow they were making movement and TTK. Have these been fixed?

Will this come out on the switch anytime soon? Thought I read a rumor that this fall they'd bring a port over

I've been burned twice by bungie with destiny vanilla due to multiple reasons, I've officially given up on giving them more of my money. But happy people that stuck with the game are getting this.

This type of content should've been at launch but somehow bungie always fucks it up and waits a year to make polish the game.

Halo Reach gave us armor abilities and weapon bloom, a good Halo game it was not (not a terrible game tho). Now if you would have Said Halo 1-3 I would have been onboard.

Yup I remember that too. A lot of the media were guilty of the same thing.
But I didn't have that feeling day one of Destiny 2. AT ALL.

I always felt that it was "off" due to the sandbox changes of making the character slower, the changes to primary/secondary weapons (can't use shotgun/sniper), the path for exotics being changed so that none of them are special and the story becoming complete dogshit by the end of the game)

I don't mean to discredit Polygon, but my opinion in the OP is coming from someone who has played the original for countless hours and wasn't impressed with Destiny 2 on the first day.

Gotta agree so far. First time I feel Destiny has been truly good rather than "good, for Destiny"
