I guess that answers that question of what they were going to do with Frank Underwood

Lol. They really get to the point on that one.

I haven't watched the last couple of seasons. I might see if I can run through some recaps and just watch the last season in November.

First scene, Claire and Doug in the Oval Office.
"Have you heard from Francis?"
"Yes, he sends his best regards. He says the resignation and the following trip to somewhere in Asia to find himself were the best decisions he ever made."
"Wow, that's great to hear... let's talk politics."

This show needed to end anyway. The first two seasons were HBO quality and then it had a hard drop in season 3 and it never fully recovered.

Agreed. This season will probably be a mess since Kevin Spacey's Frank was the strongest and most interesting character on the show by far.

The funny thing is this direction makes complete sense with how the show was going. It was almost like they knew Spacey was a pig and would get exposed.

Definitely not. The direction they were going in was 100% a war between Frank and Claire.

I meant the direction of Claire being the main character. The past two seasons I was more interested in Claire and what she was doing than I was with Frank. They needed this change his bullshit was growing very stale. I haven't wanted him to win in a while and Claire has shown that she is a much better politician than he is as well.

Show has been on a steep decline since Season 2, but I suppose I'll have to finish it out.

I don't see how this season isn't a cluster though.

I don't agree, but I see where you're coming from. I thought they were going in the direction of making her the chief antagonist of our protagonist, while also putting him back in the position he was in in the two great seasons of the show: that of someone outside the presidency but angry and seeking revenge against the person in power who wronged him.

Claire, from my perspective, has been the absolute worst element of the show after the first season, by far.

Im going to finish it obviously, but the whole story has become so far fetched that my expectations are very very low.

That's funny I thought she was horrible the first and second season of the show. I absolutely hated her character but then that started to change and I really started to dislike Frank. I feel like they didn't know what to do with his presidency which is why almost everyone says the show goes downhill in the season he becomes president.

Well yeah. The primary problem is, he becomes far less interesting once he's in power. The show should've done one of two things: Either make season 3 his entire downfall and end there, or stretch out his ascension for more seasons before he became President. As it stands, for me, Seasons 3 and 4 were so awful that I couldn't stomach finishing Season 5. This season is going to be a mess without Kevin Spacey, and people will mostly watch for completion's sake or out of curiosity.

As for Claire, she always seemed like an inept individual, constantly failing upwards because of her connection to Frank. Her abilities to lead and to scheme were clearly several levels beneath his, and he pulled a lot of the weight, especially early on, in getting her to succeed, which sucks.

Nah. The first couple of seasons were really good, but then things fell apart quickly. Frank was always the strongest character, so this final season may end up a mess.

I'm only going to watch this season to laugh at how bad it's going to be and since I already (stupidly) watched the entirety of last two.

The show is not worth it if you're looking for something good.

Is it not worth watching then from the start, even for a set amount of early series and dropping it at a certain point?

My advice: Watch the first two seasons and nothing more. The end of the second season is perfectly acceptable, to me, as a series finale where
the villainous protagonist outright wins.

Seasons 1 and 2 are excellent television and absolutely worth your time. Seasons 3 and 4 are fuck awful, and Season 5 is mostly terrible, too.

If you're ok with dropping mid-way, then just watch the first two seasons and pretend that the story ended there (it really fits as an ending).

Agree with this. Season 3 was complete shit until the very last scene for me, season 4 was a bit better and I actually enjoyed Season 5, but getting to that pay off took a lot of time. Season 3 is by far the worst it was like they didn't know what to do at all and it just went around in circles.

The general story of the series is common knowledge now, and this teaser more or less gives it away anyway.
Maybe he didn't watch it yet? Just edit out that bit.

I actually... forgot that they were 5 seasons.. I totally thought that we only had 4 not counting the upcoming one.

This fucking show lasted 6 seasons when it should've ended at 2 (or 3 if the writers weren't dumb). Insane.

Awesome, I'll do just that then, lol. No issue dropping something if it's a natural ending place and falls off a cliff after this.

I don't think I'm going to watch this season.

Spacey was 80%+ of the reason I watched, he was so good even in the trash seasons.

Well it's called House of Cards for a reason.

Yeah, exactly. I understand why he's not back, but his absence will be super noticeable and make it so the show is completely unwatchable most likely.

Well yeah, a house of cards takes a long time to build, but then falls quickly with the slightest push. That isn't how it played out in the Spacey series, sadly.

Well Netflix is pretty clear in their message that Kevin Spacey is dead to them. I have to say I am interested again to watch now. Claire is a great character, I just hope they step up the writing from last season.
