I think NSMBU was the best 'new' traditional 2D Mario game, but I also think if they are going to bring one of those over to Switch, it should have been Mario Maker
Oh I agree with you. NSMBU was my favorite of the modern NSMB games. I loved we had a world map again.

Yeah I thought Mario Maker was coming. King Zell seemed to imply Mario Maker was coming next year.

This JIFF perfectly encapsulates the relationship between Nintendo's PR and fans in the Direct era:

I'm looking at the sky, waiting for a sign from God that the Direct is upon us soon. So far I've seen the clouds moving, something is happening for sure.

Haha yeah.... no one who knows anything is talking and everyone who is talking knows nothing.

It's pretty funny. Everyone is getting times confused and what direct it is. It's like chickens running around with no head.

I didn't play Luigi U so I have no clue what to expect.

Luigi U uses the same world map as NSMBU, but each level has a one minute time limit IIRC and they're harder.

Give me N64 Mini with Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie and finish the Direct with Banjo and Kazooie in Smash.

Personally, i don't expect to see anything from 2019 in this Direct. Thinking that there will be another general one this year for the first quarter/half 2019 stuff.

Really? There's not enough stuff this year to cover a 30-40 minute Direct.

We don't know how long it is, there's stuff they can announce for 2018 (like that rumored NSMB U port) and this one's a special one as they have the firmware update and the online service to cover. I'd say there's enough for half an hour without even mentioning 2019. ;]

They'll probably do a deep dive on Mario Party or something, they love to do that.

I seriously wouldn't expect too much from this. One or two neat 3rd party port, NSMBU, a cool Smash trailer. And some minor stuff. No 2019, or at least no 1st party announcement. There wasn't one last year.

last year september direct we got Wolfenstein 2 scheduled for 2018. who know

If I was betting I would say yes we'll get a new game for 2019. It could be small or big.

I think there is if we count third party stuff

We'll see. I have high hopes for this Nintendo Direct.

I think they will show something for 2019. Even the Mini Direct in January revealed Mario + Luigi for 3DS for 2019.

That wasn't the Mini Direct, that was Switch only. Mario & Luigi was revealed in the March Direct. Still, I still think we could get a 2019 reveal, like Yoshi or more Fire Emblem (though I don't think it will be Metroid; that's Game Awards material)

Well same thing. You proved my point even more since it was the March Direct lol. I fully expect to see a 2019 game.

I want to reiterate I think NSMB Deluxe will be a 2018 game.

My predictions:

  • They are going to mention Online before the highlighted game (same thing they did with MyNintendo gold coins)
  • Highlighted games are Let's Go P/E, Super Mario Party and Smash
  • NSMBU port
  • New Mario Kart 8 tracks update, launches the day of direct
  • Splatoon 2 update, launches the same day as online
  • South Park: Stick of Truth and FFXV Pocket HD
  • Warframe, launches the same day as online
  • Third party games from Capcom, Square Enix and maybe Activision, Ubisoft and Bethesda
  • Sports reel just like last year (2K, FIFA)
  • Yoshi trailer
  • Fire Emblem: The Three Houses trailer

Mario & StarFox : Lylat Kingdom Battle ?
No. It's years old.

It had Iwata, Reggie, and I think Miyamoto. It went "X is falling" (can't remember what X was, maybe Wii U sales). It looked like they were in some sort of falling room due to the pens and camera angle. Iwata went "launching Nintendo direct" and Reggie continued "standby megatons".

Then there was a shot of Mario from within a fighter jet, who replied "Let's a go!". There might have been a shot of the plane from the outside after that.

I might still have a copy of that .gif on my PC at home.
