want to play more... but must finish a project and go to bed so I can go to work after I get up >.<:

or do I say screw it... say I am halfway done and that I can finish the rest in like 20 hours and play like 90 min more of DQ11...

though if I am good now I can just play after work.

kill everything using the accessories you got from the edition of light so you get 3hp and 1MP back each turn (the MP can be used to heal others)

beyond that idk. I'm only a few hours in but I assume there is a casino at some point that you can abuse with saves. At least 8 had one :P
Woah what? what accessories? i got a vest of success , some skill seeds and level up thingys.

I'm still early on in the game but I unlocked the forge, so this leaves me with a question: is buying weapons from shops worthless if you're on the hunt for recipes?
When you forge something, you get pearls from it as a byproduct. You can use pearls to upgrade gear using the same system as forging, to upgrade them to +1 +3 and such, so you can buy gear, then upgrade it, or you can craft it. You don't always have the right recipe for the item you want. That said the prices are pretty high for item so I've mostly been crafting so far and ignoring the shop stuff.

I couldn't play the game that much, I have the PS4 version. How can I get the accessories from the Edition of Light ? I preordered the game, should I download the additional items from somewhere ?
if you got the physical version there should have been a code in there.
I'm not 100% sure on the digital version but I think they were just included with it (could always check the download list)
but
As soon as you can control the main character of the game, open the main menu and select the Misc option. From there go to System Settings and select Claim Rewards.

once in that menu there should be a screen that looks like
Dragon-Quest-XI-Redeem-DLC-03-515x290.jpg

from https://www.justpushstart.com/2018/09/dragon-quest-xi-guide-how-to-redeem-dlcs-in-game/

(thank you multiple amazon reps for the link while I was trying to find out where my missing DLC was and they kept telling me it was on the disk :P and it wasn't :P)

someone else that ordered it digitally might be able to help with that.

from that link "For a limited time, early purchasers of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will receive a free upgrade to the Edition of Light. It will include the following DLCs: Supplicant Accessory, Healer accessory and 3 Seed Skills. Those who are interested in purchasing the Digital Edition, a free upgrade will also be given, allowing players to receive the three DLCs as well." so either way you should have the edition of light DLC
if you got the physical version it was on a sheet inside the cover

but that dlc was a supplicant accesory (gain 1mp per turn) healer accessory (gain 3hp per turn) and 3 seed of skill.

They really make you feel like you're going on a grand adventure with this world design. Going into the watery cave now, just making my way there is so much fun. And I love these mounts, the flying hornets that let you fly over water to find goodies are my favorite. Christ I am going to end up working with like two hours sleep.

I clearly remember 3 Seeds of Skill but cannot remember the other two. I'll check back when I have time. Thanks!

11 hours in and loving it. Just got past the part
where Sylvando has defeated the monster that was brought into town and now you have to head westward from the horse racing town (forgot the name) .
First I've played a game for a stretch this long in quite a while.

I looked it up. The DLC is just randomly bugged for some people, including myself. Its got to do with some store database issues where game doesnt recognize you have the edition of light and treats it like the regular version that doesnt exist right now

Ah. That's a shame.
hopefully that gets fixed soon.

while I am sure the accessories will be outpaced in a few more hours of gameplay they are quite useful right now where I am at to let me just beat up everything I see without much worry.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

I suppose if the game was going to have issues at launch DLC issues with equipment that will be replaced after the first 5-10 hours is far from the worst.

As I know I haven't run into any serious bugs with the game at all in my playtime so far on an original ps4.

Man, why does Trodain Bandana and Togs have to be actual armor and not separate fashion equipment? Eventually I have to replace the armor to get stronger ones, and thus losing the look, which I vastly prefer over the actual design of DQXI's protag.

Physical, there should be a code. DIgital, the items will be automatically downloaded.

To get the items in-game. there's a claim rewards menu in the Misc, you should be able to get your bonus items from there.

There's a vastly upgraded version of those two armor pieces although yes, I really dislike cosmetic items with stats, it's just annoying :/

Hit my first boss road block after getting 4 characters and a guest in the party. I guess I should level up more given that I still get exp from mons with the low level exp restriction on. I recall having some problems with this boss in the Japanese version but with hard mode it is definitely much harder. I also vaguely remember that most mobs die after a Bang spell from one character but here they still need 1 or 2 more attacks.

How hard and challenging is the post game content? Is there lots to do after for the platinum trophy? Or is it a cakewalk as you're so levelled up by the? Hope it's tough side content

Reading many things on internet it looks like I'm not the only one without the light bonus dlc.

I preordered in April. Got the 3 preorder dlc but missing the 3 normal one ....

Contacted Sony. I'll wait a bit before I play then

Just in case you don't know, if the items are not downloaded you can easily find them in my items on the drag-down menu of the game :)
I have only 3 out of 6 there. Ingame same :(

Sheesh, saw some 4k-downsampled-to-1080p screenshots and it looked so goddamn clean and good that I decided I'll shelve the game until I get a new GPU sometime next month, lol. Lots of other new games to play this month anyway!

What? How so? Which ones? They don't show up on your download menu when you download the game after purchasing it?

If it's any consolation it's nothing important, but still.....

I claimed 3 rewards yesterday but I don't remember the names of them. I hope I got them. lol

One 3 skill seeds, one 15 skill seeds, 1 healer card, 1 magician (IIRC, forget the name) card, and 1 unique vest. None is really important but yeah, they can help.

I have the 15 seed , the vest and the 3 stones

Miss the 3 other seeds and the 2 healing and magic items.

It looks like it happens mostly for people who preordered long time ago as it was no light edition back then. It changed afterward but the 3 normal dlc are missing

I love this game and I'm a big fan of the series but my only gripe so far is the soundtrack.

It's actually quite grating and jarring hearing the low quality midi synth when you see how the rest of the game looks and sounds. The environmental sounds are realistic and immersive in 5.1 and the graphics are so nice and detailed.

Then you have this low quality music playing all the time in the background and it's just a sharp contrast to how the rest of the game looks and sounds and the cutscenes are even affected by how they convey everything because it's just odd when you see something important against beautiful graphics and bad quality music.

The game suffers because of that bastard composers insistence to be stubborn and not change the quality and go traditional just because he has the sway at Square Enix. It's a dent in the game for sure as it definately affects the overall experience and mood of it when you're playing. I had to turn the music down to 5 as it's so grating and jarring and some of the tracks loop after 30 seconds so I question how good his output is with or without better quality music.

I cannot believe Square Enix are still using this guy when he is making music like this. Sometimes tradition is not always a good thing especially when the technology available goes past dated ways and methods.

I've honestly not even noticed the low quality audio, everything sounds fine to me.

My only gripe so far 5 hours in is how easy it is.

I'm 3 hours in and started with super strong enemies in draconian quest. Don't regret it one bit yet. Everything is nicely challenging so far.

I'm personally enjoying how easy it is, but I'm less looking for a challenge and just to play through a DQ game again and don't have a lot of time. If the switch version turns out well I might end up picking that up as a double dip and playing through that with more of a challenge on the go.

I don't typically have any sound while playing games on the go so stuff like JRPGs I prefer playing the main story on my TV first, but for a second playthrough on the go could be solid.

After 1 hour I cant take it anymore slide the music volume to 1. It's not even about midi quality, they way musics are arranged so repetitive and annoying.
On another hand, I found voice acting pretty charming. DQ cutscenes are so simple yet endearing.

I lowered the music level to 3, lol. I mean, it's alright, but at 10 it's just too overpowering.

Try the draconian setting. It ramps up the monsters' stat considerably.

my missing DLC lead me to a 2 hour conversation with amazon support with nothing to show :P

Hah yeah doubtful Amazon can help. If anything it's Sony/PSN that's the issue, I bet.

Yeah, there's a certain allure of a JRPG that you can just enjoy through leisurely, that's for sure.

Anyone who is holding out for their missing DLC to arrive to start the game- just start it, honestly. The skill seeds and accessories are nice to have but are absolutely non-essential and stop being useful about 2 hours in. If it's causing you stress dealing with retailers, I'd say it's not worth the hassle.

After 1 hour I cant take it anymore slide the music volume to 1. It's not even about midi quality, they way musics are arranged so repetitive and annoying.

Yep, the old man is definitely phoning it in with this one. People criticize how much of this game reuses old tracks, but honestly I think it's a good thing. Reminds me of when DQ music was better.

I'm missing the dlc you get in the box. It's installed but didn't show in the claim rewards menu in game. I'll try it again later to see if they've shown up. The 2 amazon codes I got worked though.

And sadly I may have to turn the music down too. Not because of the quality but I find the battle music ultra repetitive.

I hope the game picks up a bit or I'm in a better mood for it today. While first impressions are good I have reservations about it which could hamper my enjoyment overall. But it's very early days after my brief spell last night.

so it should have been amazon :P

I have the edition of Light DLC. As it was in the case because I am apparently in the minority of here who bought it physically :P

I'm still early on in the game but I unlocked the forge, so this leaves me with a question: is buying weapons from shops worthless if you're on the hunt for recipes?

If you can find the recipe in the same region, most forged weapons are equal or even stronger than those available in the shop. But if you prefer certain type of weapon, then sometimes you have to buy it in the shop (recipes, depending on your progress, do not always have all type of the weapons)

How hard and challenging is the post game content? Is there lots to do after for the platinum trophy? Or is it a cakewalk as you're so levelled up by the? Hope it's tough side content

For post-game or side contents, they are not very hard but you will find some challenge. Beyond the platinum trophy, the biggest goal in the game is to get all the accolades(you can find these in misc. -info- accolades earned. This goal covers every aspect of the game, asking you to master all the mini-games (racing, casino, etc.), to learn every skill and to forge all equipment and get to +3, to fill all the blanks on monster list (~700). Then you will earn "a king of accolade king" (don't know the official translation yet) title after completion. This requires ~150 hour. But it is basically grinding not so much battle challenge.

So everybody screws up, Amazon, Sony, PSN, hahah.

I honestly don't understand why SE treats one of their best franchise like this. My limited edition is still in pre-shipment. wth.

So everybody screws up, Amazon, Sony, PSN, hahah.

I'm also wondering, sale trending on steam seems not bad.

I'm about 4 hours in and the first thing I did with the options menu was figure out how to activate classic camera. lol

General impressions so far...

-- Game is gorgeous to look at, monster animations are incredible.

-- I'm very surprised at the size of towns in this game, assuming more are as big as the ones I've been to.

-- Pep is a fun system, I have no idea what background RNG triggers it.

-- Literally just figured out that everyone's names in Cobblestone is a mineral pun.

-- DQV music out of nowhere shocked me and was a pleasant surprise. Though I assume this means the game doesn't have much of an original score which is a bummer.

-- Is the horse even gonna be useful with a run button now?

-- Game is super duper easy.

-- They designed the world map like a Disneyland ride where it feels linear so that you get the amazing curated vistas. The fields don't feel as wide open as something like DQVIII which is a bit of a bummer.

I've been playing for 5 straight hours now so I think it's time to sleep. The game is so goddamn good.

The only thing that bugs me is the lack of option to sell old equipments once I buy and equip a new one without having to navigate to "Sell" menu.

About 3 hours in.

Man, this game is just great. It's gorgeous, the writing and music are great, and the pace is quick too. I don't know what Erik's accent is, but I honestly like it and I like him. He and the hero getting into things gives me Cecil/Kain vibes.

I really liked Gemma too. Pretty impressive how the game manages to do that in such a short amount of time. I can't eait to see how the whole group plays off each other.
