I actually think the existing A Class interior looks better than that already

Not sold on the front grill and lights. Also how much will it cost?

I wouldn't go that far. It's part current gen C-Class (centre console where the A/C controls etc are) with the screens from the new A-Class bolted on. Bit of a hodge-podge bastardisation from the MB parts bin.

Car like this deserves its own interior design. Not something thrown together from existing (and some quite old) parts.

I've had my Tesla for a year, and I would never buy an all electric car from another company, because of the supercharger infrastructure that Tesla has. Your can go anywhere you want, to most popular countries world wide, and only have to stop for a 20-30 minute charging session every 3 hours or so.

I just don't see why you would buy anything else, unless you want to be stuck in a 300 mile radius, or don't mind charging at a slow charger for 5 hours

Ouch. That's not good.

Anecdotally I actually spoke to some random New Yorker whilst I was on holiday there, who'd just stepped out of his Model S. Asked him how it was, and if he'd recommend it over the other luxury brands, eg Mercedes and BMW, and amusingly he said he also had a BMW 7 Series (which at the time was being used by his wife), that he preferred and that he wouldn't actually recommend the Model S until they ironed out the reliability issues, of which he claimed he'd already had quite a few.

I'm definitely interested in one, but I'm not sure they're ready for prime time yet. Hell even MKBHD had several major issues with his, and he's a YouTuber with millions of followers.

Jesus that badge is fucking huge.

Reminds me of those Ralph Lauren polo shirts that people buy for the label.

The "German Luxury Cars are Unreliable" thing stems from the idiots who buy a 10+ year old S-Class/M3/S8/Boxster/etc. for super cheap from some shady used car dealer. Only to find out the car was beaten to hell and back, stolen, been in a flood, odometer rolled back, and spent time in Russia.

When are the automakers going to realize that people want electric cars that look just like the regular models?

All of the other manufacturers have agreed to a similar shared charging network in Europe that will also roll out in the US.

And this only matters if you're doing long road trips, which people aren't doing 99% of the time.

The problem is that if you do that you get a pretty compromised electric car.

A lot of what makes electric cars viable is efficiency which translates into longer range and shorter charging times (because a more efficient car charges more quickly when considering range miles/hour). So much of what you think of as "this is what a normal car looks like" has been dictated by the design constraints of gas-powered cars (for example, the EQC definitely doesn't need a giant fake grille in the front).

They could slap batteries and an electric motor in an existing design, but that comes with compromises in storage space (see the Ford Focus Electric) and/or aerodynamics (see the Jaguar i-Pace which is less efficient than a much bigger and heavier Tesla Model X, and I suspect the EQC also suffers here although the claimed efficiency is at least better than the i-Pace...).

Well that looks like a Mazda, very few Merc designs sit well with me though. Good to have competition entering the marketplace though.

Until someone comes in for the midentry electric car that's affordable and not look like ass, Tesla will still reign despite Musk's self destruction

Ugh... that interior is almost as bad as the model 3.
What's up with the screens everywhere bullshit?
I wonder if they'd get a few extra miles out of these cars if they wouldn't waste so much electricity on impractical gimmicks

Yikes....that front end is ugly. Mercedes has been doing well with their design lately but not sure what they were thinking

So Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, and now Mercedes, huh? Sharks smell blood in the water after the year that Tesla's had.

I do not have a Tesla (or any electric car), but to me, this is the single biggest value in the Tesla brand today. Announcing a new car is a nice gesture, but without this infrastructure it doesn't mean shit.

tbh, I wonder how many of these traditional car companies are desperately hoping Tesla goes bankrupt just so they can swoop up the charging infrastructure Tesla has built up. There's no way I'd buy an electric car, ever, unless it was supported by a similar nationwide backbone.

Tesla is going to be in trouble when the big boys come out with all-electric cars.

I keep reading the other car companies being refereed to as "the big boys"; the same companies that were either bailed out by the US government, or have been cheating emission tests left and right? lol

Also, if they have more money to "burn", they would have done it already. They held back on R&D because they wanted to keep pumping out what they knew how to make, and take no risk. Suddenly they're in a position where they have to make that decision and take the risk. It won't be so easy as some here think it will be, same reason no one managed to dethrone Apple once the iPhone was ahead. Yes there will be more electric cars, but history shows that companies that take the lead in new markets former dinosaur companies refused to get involved in often keep their footing for a long time.

My sarcasm meter is broken on this one. Real?

Also my sister has one of the new Mercedes hybrid, it's amazeball.. I'm very jelly

Are German Cars Reliable? The Myth of "German Engineering"

"According to Consumer Reports, Mercedes boosted its reliability a bit in 2011, but is still inconsistent. The same can be said for Mercedes' German competitors, Audi and BMW. In Consumer Reports last five annual reports, the last time these German brands have been above average in reliability was back in 2007. Since then, they've all slumped below the average in the industry."

That front fascia is so painful to look at. Why did they have to change the grille too?

I think Mercedes styling fell off about 4ish years ago but man, this is magnitudes worse than anything thus far. Mercedes, Toyota, and Honda seem to struggle the most in the EV transition when it comes to making distinctive AND attractive designs to go with their EV sub-brands.

And thats where they get you.

The world needs a joint coalition of supercharging station not owned by one company.

Model 3 has one screen. And I absolutely love mine. Took at worst two days to get used to it. Now? When I'm in a standard ICE vehicle I find it noisy and messy. Once you've gotten used to the simplicity, you really cannot go back.

I don't think this is a good thing. Tesla having a proprietary charging network hurts the greater EV industry.

At the moment it looks like most EV manufacturers are moving towards the Type 2 CCS connector to provide level 3 charging and Tesla should join them.
