Tbh, and I agree with this article: https://www.vg247.com/2018/09/04/why-video-game-downgrades-happen/

I said that before but the E3 demo has an excess of puddles which means more reflectiosn in that fight scene involving the reflections of the goons too which may get very distracting to know which is a real person and one reflection in very rapid fight.

Btw, Dark1x What can you talk about the weather and TOD system that you can manipulate at will after finishing the game?
Can we kick day night cycles and rain and sun like FFXV PLATINUM demo? Can we now replicate that infamous ecne by adding more rain which creates more puddles, Is the puddle system like Horizon where rain cause puddles to form then the sun makes them evaporate in real time?
Or you didn't finish the game yet?Or it is not up in the game yet until day one patch?
I hope you can respond beacuse this is really crucial to know.

They are preset time and weather condition options you select (Like GTSport, Infamous SS), not dynamic cycles like in FFXV.

Well it is to me. What can I say?

Maybe they could have used the specific Cube Mapping at this particular part since they'd already done the work and therefore no need to do any extra throughout the game? (I know this probably isn't feasible).

I also find it rather strange that this particular method of Cube Mapping wasn't known to the Developer from the beginning of development to be more time consuming and thus they wouldn't have chosen this technique as they would have known it would have taken them far too much time to implement it for the rest of the game?

With regards to the lighting, it also now looks more gamey to me whereas it was one of the things I enjoyed originally as it appeared to have that CGI and not gamey look - as others have stated too.

I also preferred the shiny suit :-)

Again, in my opinion, at least one of these aspects are a downgrade - to my eyes and thus the disappointment. After all, even you state yourself the now used Cube Mapping isn't as impressive as the original.

I've not or won't be posting downgrade stuff in that thread but I'm not gonna jump on a bandwagon and say its all down to artistic choice... How is time artistic? Time = Money.

Regardless, I fully appreciate all the Developers hard work for everything - Insomniac are one of my very favourite Developers - I still have many fond memories of Disruptor on PS1 and still own it to this day.

To be fair, this happens in too many games these days but I'm not going to go into that - they want to sell their games and by making things look or appear to play better is one way of doing it.

The situation in God Of War was much worse because the dynamism of the original 'gameplay' wasn't repeated at that level within the game at all. That felt kind of...not right.

Cyberpunk 2077 - I'll accept whatever the Developers change upon final release because they've been totally up front from the beginning. A big difference in my book.

Throws shade at devs, questions their decisions even though they have significantly more knowledge than he does, accuses them of not being upfront about the current state of an in-progress product and then calls them "one of his favourite developers."

Madness.

ON TOPIC:
I really wish I had a proper 4K HDR set for this game, but alas. The Samsung CHG70 is going to have to do.

I bought a 4k hdr monitor last week in preparation for Spidey :p

Obviously I wanted it for films and other games too, but Spidey tipped me over the edge.

Film grain or noise increases perceived detail and sharpness. I remember reading an article about it years ago that went into detail about why that is but I can't find it right now.

I'm very sure it said that grain is inherent from content shot on film while noise is part of digital images in poor conditions.

You are right about it being part of perceived detail of the image or you get travesties like this when you remove it:

I always turn off film grain and chromatic aberration, just horrible.

I usually turn off motion blur too, depends.

I couldn't justify the $2K. Didn't have the space for a proper sized tele either. Hoping monitor manufactures get their shit together in regards to 4K HDR.

Film grain in some instances when used lightly can lend a bit of noise to the picture that makes it seem more detailed I guess. At any rate it's nice to have options. Glad this was mostly an upgrade too, so the crazy people can go away.

I absolutely adore film grain. Mass Effect looked amazing to me because of it. It lends a dreamy, through the lens quality. That said, it is always good have options to turn them off for those who do not share the same tastes.

I always let film grain on, but I just honestly don't understand the appeal of Chromatic Aberration. Like, seriously, I want someone to explain it to me.

I just don't see what we get in return for the loss in clarity.

For example, TAA will generally blur the image quite a bit, reducing clarity, but in exchange for that you get a much more temporally stable image, effectively combating, or even removing, shimmering from the screen. If you have the hardware to downsample the game, you can even make up for the loss in clarity, and you get the best of both worlds.

Screen Space Motion Blur will naturally lose A LOT of clarity on any given frame, but in exchange for that you get the benefit of having smooth camera pans even at the low framerate of 30, unlike the juddery mess you get without any kind of blur.

Chromatic Aberration reduces clarity in exchange for... what? A poor vignetting effect at best, when it's only applied to the corners of the screen? Eew.

I heard CA is used for mimicking movie/film aesthetic.

Thats something I agree. I never being a fan of chromatic aberration. Both Doom 2016 and Darksiders looks terrible using this.
Thank god I can disable.

Very pleased with this, I turn off the motion blur and filmgrain whenever possible. Just finished downloading the game to my PS4 too, now I just have to wait until midnight to friday.

Not sure what chromatic aberration is though, I have to look that up.

This game has one of the best implementations of motion blur, all motion will look better if you keep it on.

yeah, I would definitely play for a bit with all our effects turned on before turning anything off. Lots of time and effort went into those implementations

Did we read the same thread? The number of people actually arguing there was a downgrade was minuscule, with the vast majority of posts coming from people trying to dismiss the conversation entirely.

In today's video John actually acknowledges the puddle room did look better in the E3 2017 demo, so there was something to be said there, as I personally mentioned in the puddle thread. I assume that will be ignored though as no one would dare want to admit there actually was something behind all that drama after all.

This.

The actual screenshot comparison most people were talking about turns out to indeed be downgraded since E3 whatever the reason.

This video was incredible, John. I loved the editing and it was just all very well done. If Rich is reading John deserves a pay rise especially considering he does the Retro ones out of passion!!

The game looks phenomenal overall. Really excited to play it!

It runs great on base PS4. Looks fantastic there as well. Seems to drop to the 900p range on occasional - could also vary more but difficult to find examples. Still, image quality is very clean and performance is mostly stable. 99% 30fps locked, I'd say.

Insomniac's engine is really killer, though.

I mean, Sunset Overdrive looks insane for a game running on an original Xbox One I always thought and this is the next iteration of that tech. They know what they're doing.

It's because they don't sleep.

Great work! Love your videos! This game is going to nuts!
I'll see myself out now... Lol
