Am glad its not 90+ those games are boringly safe for me , just so everyone who plays it will give it a high score( ofc there are exceptions ).But usually 80s is the sweet spot , I either love it or hate it.

Weirdly enough very few of my fav games get 90+ because of flaws , but those flaws are why I tend to like it more. Yakuza is another good example , that game is never gonna get 90+.

I wouldn't go that far, even last year which was stellar had two sub-90s pick up GOTYs in NieR and Horizon.

This year has less candidates, only God of War and MHW so far. Well hopefully the weird barrier that stops indies from getting GOTY will break and maybe Celeste will be up there too. Smash won't be a factor because it's releasing too late. Maybe Octopath? The genre doesn't really resonate with people these days as much as it used to.

My prediction for the game awards nominees is this

- God of War
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Monster Hunter World
- Spider-Man
- Celeste
I hate to say it...

But you forgot Fortnite. If PUBG got nominated last year, Fortnite definitely will this year considering how much of a phenomenon it is.

I'm kind of disappointed that we aren't getting some fleshed out side quests. Guess the DLC will remedy that though I guess

Why are people so strung up on metacritic scores? I can understand if the game was universally panned in the actual reviews, but it's not. Unless everyone is being ironic.

Pros: world building, story, main quest, boss fights, web swing, combat, suits.(story and boss fights seems to be amazing)
Cons: side quests, side content in general and side activities

Pros: Beautiful, Web Slinging, Gameplay is fun, Story ends in a satisfying way?
Cons: Mission Structure, repetitive missions/side quests / doesn't break the mold of open world games or games that came before.
Do side quests have other villains in them or are they all random thug missions?

This is the highest rated Spider-Man game since "Spider-Man" on the PS1, which also has an 87 on Metacritic.

I never played Sunset Overdrive but did it have a lot of side missions outside of the main stuff and if so, was is varied? The side content seemed like a problem from the start with Spider-Man and when information started coming out about what you could do, it seemed about as by the book as you can get. Really hope Insomniac learn from this and in future games put a lot more thought into the side stuff but much like Horizon, they seem to have got the core correct.

Infamous:SS also had a big problem when it came to side missions, still loved the fuck out of the game but it was repetitive and much to Sucker Punches credit, it was a release window game. Maybe I'm expecting too much, comparing games to what R* make where they have bigger budgets and time but it is what it is, R* to me are best in class by about a million miles.

Lower than 90 is a bit disappointing. Was hoping for and expecting a bit higher.

Will definitely get it at some point, but going to hold off for now.

Nah, they weren't Sunset Overdrive's good side. They were like pretty much all open world games (fetch quests) + arena combat, which admitedly were fun.

I think the open world games with the best side missions, for me, are The Witcher 3 (of course) and Watch Dogs 2 (they had pretty fun stories all around). The rest, it varies a lot, GTA V had some good Strangers but others were kinda bad, for example.

You sort of answered the first paragraph with what you said in the second. It's not a lack of thought, it's more likely about time and budget when you compare it to something like a Rockstar game.

Gotta be A+ (90+) or A- for people to feel like they have another exclusive to flaunt or something I dunno. Watch Red Dead not even be as big a deal even though it's probably gonna score like 96 lol. Smash thread will be big too, but Smash is really an event by fans so I'll leave that alone. But yeah, exclusive games, it's serious business.

The complaints seems genuine and since this is basically a new IP for Insomniac, I'm expected the more flawless sequel to be the real breakthrough. Should have a lot of inspiration to take from by then.

I posted this in another thread, but:

Spider-Man |OT| The itsy-bitsy spider, went up the waterspout. Down came the rain, but all we saw was drought.

As for the scores, this about what I expected, so I'm extremely pleased. I can't wait to get my copy on Friday. Please deliver, Amazon. :/

The IGN review is really good.

I wanted Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 to make me feel like Spider-Man: To sail between the highrises of New York City, to nimbly web up hordes of enemies, and tussle with familiar, animal-themed villains. Insomniac Games' first foray into the world of Marvel handily delivers on all of that. But what I didn't expect from Spider-Man was to come away feeling just as fulfilled to have inhabited the life of Peter Parker. Aside from a few odd pacing issues, which momentarily took me out of the experience of being a superhero, and a world of optional missions that don't always quite live up to the heft of the main story, Insomniac has delivered a Spider-Man story that both surprised and delighted me, coupled with gameplay that made me feel like Spider-Man nearly every step of the way. The Wall Crawler's open world doesn't consistently deliver the thrilling moments of its main campaign, but the foundation laid here is undoubtedly a spectacular one.

This is pretty silly. I can understand using MC as a barometer but to base your decision on a three point difference is ridiculous. Just read some reviews and see if the flaws are something that would be a dealbreaker for you. Scores aren't everything.

And sequels generally about better than the original (not always but usually). If that's the case, this is one hell of a starting point

This game looks absolutely stunning but my backlog is so huge now I feel like I can't justify buying anything at release when it's bound to be $30 within a year.

I still have to finish the Uncharted Collection (I'm on UC3 and loving it), Lost Legacy, RE7, God of War, Detroit, and I have my hacked SNES Classic with Chrono Trigger that I've been meaning to start along with about 100 other games I never played back in the day.

It's a good time to be a gamer.

BTW I used to be a Spiderman fan when I was a kid but haven't read any comics in about 15 years. I've heard Ultimate Spiderman is good. Would the trade paperbacks be a good place to jump in?

Doesn't even crack their top 5:

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal - 91
Spyro: Year of the Dragon - 91
Ratchet & Clank: going Commando - 90
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - 89
Ratchet & Clank - 88
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time - 87
Marvel's Spider-man - 87
Resistance 2 - 87
Yeaaaahhh about that. You have to remember that one: reviewers were more likely to hand out 9's and 10's back then and Two: Most of those games don't have near the same amount of reviews as Spider-Man. Spyro has like 15 reviews which isn't a fair comparison at all when Spider-Man has 82 currently. Don't bring this up.
