Can't wait to play Spiderman this weekend! Thanks to the long weekend, weekend is going to come sooner rather than later! Hype!

I am a pleb when it comes to comic books, I know very, very little lore for any of the major superheroes. Basically nothing beyond what I've learned from the MCU and Nolan's Batman trilogy. But I am just excited to web around Manhattan and beat up bad guys. I feel almost guilty that I will be missing out on so many cool details, but it sounds like that won't be crucial to enjoy the game in any sense.

Personally, I got into superheroes and the DCU thanks to the excellent Batman: The Animated Series and later on, the Justice League/The Justice League: Unlimited series that aired on Cartoon Network in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Just like you, I have little knowledge of the Marvell Universe and Spiderman apart from the Tobey Maguire movies. I can't wait to learn more about these villians and their plot arcs.

I'm getting weird vibes from RDR2. RDR is my favorite rock star game. I loved it but I've felt really nothing from what they've shown with RDR2. I feel like I'm getting it because it's coming out. And Rockstars messaging so far feels the same. Everything gives me a "yea we know you are all buying this anyway"

Last time I had this vibe was Mass Effect:A. Now I'm not thinking it'll end up like that but it feels like it's riding more in the name than what's shown so far.
I was feeling the same way about RDR2 up until the recent gameplay walkthrough (plus the details Rockstar released outside of it). Now that I have a better feeling for the gameplay loop, I'm getting more excited about it (though nowhere near as much as I am for Spider-Man and DQXI).

Great review. I really can't wait for my copy to arrive (though it'll have to wait till after I finish Kiwami 2).

Bloodworth Any chance you guys could get Bryan Intihar or someone else from Insomniac on the spoiler mode like you did with Cory?

Sandbox/Open World games like GTA, RDR and AC were my favorite genre for quite some years (probably since GTA III), but Ubisoft completely killed them for me by pumping out way too many of them.
The last AC I played was Unity and I did enjoy it a lot (I probably like it more than most people). But even with AC Black Flag I was not completing the game any more because it had way too much stuff in it and I just panic when I see those maps.

I am sure the newer games in the series are still very good and I own all of them, I just am afraid of starting them, so I just play other games instead.
The same for Watch Dogs 2, I did enjoy the first one, but I don't want to deal with a map full of crap any more.

I am not really looking forward to RDR because of those games. I know it's a different studio and RDR 2 is probably going to be fantastic, but I am just not looking forward to games like that any more because I get anxious by just looking at the map and the insane amount of time it will cost to play them. I am also very afraid of how much online focused it's going to be.

I probably will still buy RDR 2 and there is 99% chance I will love it, but I am still not sure if I am going to buy it day one.
There are plenty of other games that I can play (which also take a long time, but for some reason don't cause me anxiety).

It's weird because I am currently playing my 4th Yakuza game in less than 2 years and for some reason it doesn't bother me in that series (I hope it stays that way, because I love the series and I am sure a lot of Yakuza games will release the next few years).

As far as Spiderman goes, I never was a superhero person and while I am sure it will be a great game (I haven't seen the review yet, but I am sure it will be), I don't think I will play that one anytime soon. The same rule applies here for me. It's not a genre I look forward to play anymore. Blame Ubisoft I guess.

Edit:
It's funny that I do want to play Dragon Quest XI (my first Dragon Quest) which will probably take 100 hours, but for some reason I don't mind it with that one either. The same for Forza Horizon 4 (which I am probably going to play after Yakuza) which will probably have a map full of Icons as well.

Maybe it's a different reason why I got burned out by those Sandbox/Open World Action games games (how the hell do you categorize GTA, AC, RDR?). I am not sure myself why.

Anyone pre-order from Amazon? They were suspiciously late in opening physical copy pre-orders, and now my order from earlier this week has no delivery date. I've never been burned by Amazon before on something like this, but to not have it for the weekend would be a bummer!

Not happening this time around. They're about to record in an hour.

Mine is showing arriving on Friday. That said, for some bizarre reason it's also showing European box art.

Of course people in the review thread are saying spider man reviewed poorly lol, i can't stand that anything under 90 is considered a bomb or whatever. Awesome review from Jones anyhoo.

It's just trolls trying to subtly console war by putting down a console exclusive. It's hilarious if you check those people's post history :P

Someone mentioned that only like 5 or 6 AAA games this entire gen have gotten above a 90.

80 is a fucking great score.

87 is awesome.

I don't engage with that garbage. People have their biases, so any little shot they can take, they will. So graphics downgraded, 87 is a shit score, etc etc.

If you look at the 90s, a large portion of them are remasters, or late PC ports too.

I thought they said in some video Kyle was reviewing Spiderman(which I thought was weird at that time)?
Not reviewing, but he said in a stream/video that he was doing a video on it (can't recall which one), but then Jones said, starting at the 6 minute mark of the latest CoJ, that he (Jones) is thinking about another video, while Kyle is working on one that he'll announce later.

Said this in the review thread but 88 on Opencritic is in the top 2.2% of all games on the site. To act like it's not an outstanding score is beyond insane.

They are doing a spoiler mode on Spiderman if I'm not mistaken. But maybe that's not the only one.

Looks like the review got hit with a copyright claim (h/t Shady). Hope it gets fixed soon.

Hopefully EZA can fix it soon. I wonder what caused the copy right claim in the first place. Usually Sony is pretty lax about using in-game footage when making reviews....

Probably just a youtube fuck up. Or maybe a troll. Hope this doesn't cost them too many views.

Sounds like this company also copyright-striked a bunch of other smaller Youtube reviews, so EZA aren't the only ones impacted. Appears to be either trolls, or a sincere, big mistake.

Yeah, unfortunately in 360p, but what can you do. I did enjoy the review, it was excellent as always.

Hopefully the 360p issue is not the same bug as some youtubers seemed to have in which a video didn't upgrade from 240p (after multiple hours) even if they uploaded it as a 4k video.
The only solution seemed to be to delete it and reupload it (I have heard this from 2 or 3 channels).

Not sure what the hell they are doing at Youtube, but they are getting worse each month.

That said, I am glad the copyright strike was fixed in a short amount of time.
