I can't even use my real name! wtf man, uninstalling this shit. This game just insulted me.

wtfm9ftn.jpg

Probably string searches on a contains() and/or a startsWith(), so you wouldn't be able to name your character "Erika" or "Jaded" or "Rabin" or "Sylvandoo"

Same here. The game is s...l....o....w.... so very slow. I've played for three hours and I've had maybe six battles, total. I fight each enemy once just to scout it out, but avoid everything else since everything dies in two hits, and there is no need for money. The rest of the time has been jumping on roofs and cutscenes. I haven't played Dragon Quest since Dragon Warrior III on the NES. With the retro feel, I guess I was expecting more of a "here is your starting gear, off you go" instead of "here is your OP starting gear, allow us to lead you around".

If you are a fan of DWIII I guarantee that you'll find your home in end game, literally:)

I really hope this game improves for the better, because as it stands now, if the rest of the game is like this, it's gonna end up being one of my least favorite games in the series.

The name beats me. JP ver. is nowhere close to this.. 25% give or take.

DQXI is a typical slow-burn game in terms of plot. Many reviews mention this. To me it takes ~25 hours to really immerse myself in.

I'm kinda surprised many in this thread feel catchy from the beginning.

Monsters designs, NPC and exploring equally capture my attention.

Just started, game is charming as hell but I can't stand the music. When I got to the first town I just put the in-game music volume slider to "0", alt-tabbed out and put this on loop:

It's only the 2nd DQ I've played but I think I'm just gonna name every protagonist Drake and pretend there's some sort of Link situation going on.

on rep 9 now
they like to throw out https://www.justpushstart.com/2018/09/dragon-quest-xi-guide-how-to-redeem-dlcs-in-game/ and tell me all the DLC is on disk that all I need to do is boot it up and go there and it will be there.

the moment I try to explain that in fact they are only in game if I redeem a code they transfer me to someone else >.>

I don't think amazon in general thinks they have to send out a code.
they give you that link? lolwut

Is this game like the DS remakes where if all your active party members die thedie they get automatically replaced with the ones left?

I can't decide which of the characters wanna use, I like Erik, Jade, Veronica and Sylvando + the hero, so that's one too many, and of course I need a healer, so Serena has to be in there somewhere too.

If they have that mechanism, it makes it much easier, I could just rotate party members, and I wouldn't feel like I am wasting resources.

I've gotten that link 4 times now in fact.
as proof that the DLC is on the game disk :P

this current rep is being a bit more helpful and has at least explained that the things they would normally see for a game with preorder DLC are completely missing from DQ11 so they are looking into that.

They seem to be under the assumption that it really is on the disk when obviously it isn't >.<:

Are you bugged because there are too few battles but yet you have been avoiding everything? I don't follow. You can play the game thrifty by forging gear from junk you find but you aren't really overflowing with cash from normal play either.

The game isn't really open ended. It is a narrative-driven RPG. There will be times when you will have many options available to you as far as backtracking goes, but generally there is one path forward for the majority of the game.

Yes, once all your active members die they will get replaced.
The game plot will make you rotate the team members, so don't worry about the wastes in early game.

I actually thought of the same thing (least favourite) like you for the first 24 hours, and it totally changed at 25th. Then this ended up being my 3rd or 4th best game of all 11 titles.

Just started, game is charming as hell but I can't stand the music. When I got to the first town I just put the in-game music volume slider to "0", alt-tabbed out and put this on loop:

In case you have not noticed, this BGM ( from 2:14) is the same as the one when you create the adventure book and name your hero

I don't understand this at all. Game feels much better paced than any other DQ I've played. That would be IV, V, VII, and VIII. And you're avoiding battles but angry over not enough battles? I don't get it.

I've pointed that part out to 5 reps now lol.

Anyways. I think my journey is ending with "I see there were codes sent out in the UK but nothing about the US, have you tried contacting square enix"
and me going "I guess I can. I haven't because I've never had a case where if I preorder a game with preorder DLC that the company hasn't sent it out before."

>.<;

Is there a way to jump in this game? Seeing items on rooftops in Cobblestone but can't reach them. Do you get a special character or ability later on?

I haven't seen anyone else say this, but I agree. It is grating on my ears. It is certainly the quality level of MIDI files I used to download in 1995 so I could listen to Cranberries and Metallica in my Doom maps. It's bad. Real bad.

I suspect it sounds even worse due to the voice acting. The music may sound more acceptable when it's simply background music as you quietly read text boxes. Having so many voiced lines with this 1990 QuickTime era MIDI in the background is jarring.

Yes. It's far worse than anything I've heard on SNES. It reminds me of listening to MIDI with a generic software soundfont instead of wavetable synthesis.

I really enjoyed the music in Builders. I also loved how we could enable the NES music. The music here in XI is worse, both in composition and sound quality.

I know lol. I will admit defeat at this point and accept I won't get a code.

though actually my journey with amazon hasn't ended yet.
the rep has decided to contact the head of the promotion department in general to see if anyone else has looked into the issue lol.
apparently my logic of if the UK sent out codes shouldn't have the US as well was enough >.<:

Is there a way to set the language on ps4 for this game? In the German version the text is in German AND they changed the names of everyone. But in the spoken language is English and everyone has a different name than the German texts.

lmao. I was just about to ask how is the german translation. I think you can change your PS4's system language to english, and your game will be set accordingly. I have the german copy too, and it's in english.

Whats the rule to make sparkly spot respawn ? It's random or there's some rule to it ?

Seems to be just based on time.

It is real-time based, and the respawning time differs from one to another. You also have to change the area/map to make sure it refreshes.
e.g. A very rare ore (needed for ultimate equipments) in late game, which has only two spawn spots, takes about 20mins to respawn.

I had the same thing happen to me today, but a few hours later I got an email saying that it was now ready to pick up. Guess some of them maybe just got late shipment arrivals. Or maybe we have the same Best Buy.

Regardless, I still won't get to play today -- my visit this morning on my way to my bus stop was the only chance I'll get, as my shift at work ends when they close tonight. I suppose I'll try again tomorrow morning, but real drag I won't be playing tonight after work. :(

Woo, ready to do this thing. One question about rare spawns. Do they show on the overworld or are they only generated in battle?

SNES music sounds better. I'd love if this was the sound quality we were getting:

I've turned the volume down, which I never do in RPGs. The strings in particular are really grating.

You're right, I couldn't stand it anymore and put the music on 0. Connected my phone to my soundbar and just started playing the Got soundtrack. If anyone knows any playlists on Spotify that fit the game, I'm all ears!

Ffs, the game literally just came out. Maybe don't randomly post stuff about the end game? I mean, I get that this is probably minor stuff but come on...

Sry I've marked original post as spoiler

They aren't able to be seen in the filed. They will only show themselves during the battle.

I know of at least one rare (which you need to kill for a side-quest) that does not show on the map and you need to keep fighting similar enemies for a chance of it appearing during battle.

Although their combat was miles better than FFXV.

After playing 70 odd hours of the Japanese version and about 10 hours of the English version so far, the overworld theme is probably the most offensive, especially when it starts out all loud. It's like listening to a very low quality mp3 and your speakers are threatening to burst from the bass.

The voices so far work really well, especially during cutscenes. It was weird to see well directed cutscenes without voices in the Japanese version.

Wow, after 20 hours of playing in a sudden difficulty jump a boss (or just mini boss) wiped out my party. I'm probably a bit overlevelled even, at least that's what it felt like before. Is there any way to buy Yggdrasil leafs in any shop?
