ShopTo and Amazon are both selling it, for a bit of a premium compared to GAME, but the good news that it's at least in stock there.

https://www.shopto.net/video-games/ps4/PS4SP04-marvels-spiderman-special-edition
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marvels-Spider-Man-Special-Edition-PS4/dp/B07C469781

The bad news that I've just discovered is that, if you value how these Special Edition boxes that Sony puts out for their PS4 exclusives look, then it appears that whoever is in charge of the design has absolutely destroyed any enthusiasm I once had for how this thing looks.

This is how they advertised it (and are still advertising it in the UK):

The final packaging based on some updated listing on other European retailers:

I mean, just how fucking disgusting does that look? They replaced the gorgeous deep red gradient background for a garish tomato red flat colour. They've replaced the cool embossed looking spider and made it, again, a boring flat white. They've reduced the size of the spider logo to accommodate the name of the game (which doesn't need to be there), and they've changed the logo on the spine to be less pronounced for some silly reason. It all looks so cheap and nasty for a premium special edition product, and WILL look truly bad on my shelf next to the rest of the good looking PS4 exclusive Special Edition boxes.

Why do these gross designs get signed off when the original art was so, so much more tasteful? Ugh.

This is very disappointing. Hopefully it looks better in person. I've got one coming from Game this week.

So if you buy the Spider-Man PS4 Pro bundle, what are you missing from the game CE other than the statue and steelbook?

Just an artbook and sticker?

Is this a big spoiler? I'm not up to date on Spider-man lore stuff. Is it a big surprise?

EDIT: to clarify, I saw the image. I just wondered if it's a big surprise to fans.

From what I've read, no. Kind of confusing why it was hidden at all, honestly. Unless there's some aspect of the statue we cannot see, or might understand better in context of the story.

Gotcha. Yeah, was a little surprised when I saw what it actually is because it doesn't look like much of a WOOOAH SURPRISE reveal?

From my understanding,

It's because of the Doc Ock tentacles, they wanted to keep him hidden until release for people to find out he's in the game.

Yeah. This is what I was thinking too.

Like, if anyone is even vaguely aware of Spider-Man lore, it's not surprising in the slightest.

I haven't looked at pics but by all the reactions it doesn't seem very spoilery so I guess I'll look once I get it Friday

There are better pictures of it out there now... not really feeling it. I get what they were going for but its just kinda messy.

Ill be keeping my CE though. Probably put the statue in my son's room

Managed to switch my Collector's Edition preorder from Best Buy to in store pick up on Friday. I've never done with this with a game pre-order from there. When exactly will I start seeing movement on the order? They charge when I pick it up, correct?

I'm pretty sure they charge when the order is being prepared. This way, you're really just giving proof of your order and identity when you pick it up. I always go to Best Buy on my own time for stuff like that. If it isn't ready by the time I get there, I just ask them and they'll generally go pick the item while you're there. If things are too busy, you'd just have to wait anyway.

Cool.

I still need to change my billing information, so I've been waiting all week for the order authorization to fail so I can fix it up.

Anyone have a better picture of the CE statue? it's kinda ridiculous that it hasn't been shown yet. I can go online and watch people play the game start to finish, it's not the big of a surprise. One of the Batman games(I think origins) did a good job with their statue than had a nice twist surprise. I ordered the Spidey PS4 but my friend is dying to know if the statue is worth it or not.

Looks like my in-store order changed from Pre-Ordered to Preparing sometime earlier this morning.

The download code is still stuck on Pre-Ordered, but I assume that's just so it doesn't get emailed out early.
A good bit of conversation of order status and such has been happening in this thread today:

Hoping my order still holds. Nothing has moved on it.

Anyone else still waiting for a dispatch from Amazon UK? I doubt I'll even get to play this on the weekend at this rate.

I'm fuming now.

As if the change in the design of the Special Edition wasn't bad enough, I've just watched an unboxing video and the actual box is WAYYYYY bigger/taller than the other Special Edition games Sony has put out (Uncharted 4, Horizon, God of War). So it's confirmed... it's going to look like TRASH on my shelf, even more so than I anticipated.

Just WTF!? And the Steelbook doesn't even have the game name or logo on the spine.

I would have just saved some money and stuck with the standard edition if they would have made even a small effort to inform us of these changes before the game came out. That's just false advertising. Super disappointed. jstevenson

*Artwork not final and subject to change.

Pay attention to those words as every picture of the product for preorder has them on it. It's up to you to take a risk when preordering and as such not false advertising when they tell you the final product may look different. You can always return the SE and buy the normal version as you're obviously unhappy with your purchase.

Having same problem. Got the SE and it looks terrible on my shelf - it's wider than the shelf so sticks out, which nothing else does. The gradient I can get over but the box and steelbook are very very disappointing

So I bought the digital deluxe version yesterday and downloaded the game but don't seem to have any of the additional suits, etc. Where do you get them?

I personally loved the Special Edition. Especially the mini art book which is miles better than just the plain white with title that we got for God of war LE. Steelbook could be a bit better though.

I'm well aware of the fine print. Still, I'm yet to hear a convincing reason why they would not inform people weeks in advance if there is a finalised design before it goes into factory production. I asked jstevenson about this, and he said he had no idea what the final packaging would look like until they received it in their office, but would post an update if so. I never received an update about this. I find it extremely hard to believe that no-one at PlayStation or Insomniac would receive updated pack shots of the final design to share with consumers.

In the original design, the steelbook was to almost 1:1 scale with the outer box so there was no reason for anyone to believe that it would end up being this Frankenstein's monster of an oversized crap looking box.

aYlO0vQ.jpg

So like I said, they barely made any effort to inform consumers about what the final design would look like despite all the opportunities. I'm unhappy with my purchase, for sure. It's the absolute WORST special edition I've ever laid my hands on. Probably the laziest and SMDH-inducing steelbook design I've ever seen. What I'm not going to do is return it on release day after YEARS of anticipation so that I miss the opportunity to play the heck out of it. The game is amazing so far, and I've already opened it and redeemed the bonus content, so there's that.

7v3TCD1.jpg

The packaging is super disappointing to me, but you already know that. It literally fits NOWHERE on my shelf. There is NOWHERE to put it without it jutting out from every angle and looking terrible. This ain't hyperbole. Just when I thought of a personal solution to this, well... I can't even stand it upright, because the bottom of the outer box ensures that it just keeps FALLING OVER. So yeah, the press shots even less convincing in hindsight, because this thing cannot be placed vertically.

I might just sell the Special Edition contents, try and make as much money back on it, and try and get hold of a standard box for the disc. This thing is meant for collectors, and yeah I never expected to be in this predicament with Spider-Man of all games.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels a bit screwed over by this. Oh well, not much else to do but sell it on once I've completed the game.

Well, the mini artbook front cover is not the issue. What I've found out is that its SIZE is the issue.

RK9wcIF.jpg

If they'd made the Spider-Man artbook the same size as the steelbook/case (and the God of War one), they would have no need for the outer box to be so ridiculously massive. They'd just create a slipcase for Steelbook + Artbook. I've figured that Sony must not have consulted Dark Horse with the same dimensions as the God of War one and so they just printed one that they envisioned as standard, and when it came to producing the outer box, they just had to make it massive to fit the artbook. Disappointing that such a minor detail slipped passed them on this one.

It's the details like this that really let me down this time.
