Oof, the animating itself really isn't that great either, it takes a ton of shortcuts. Here's hoping it's fucking amazing and gets aloted a bigger animated budget...or something
I mean, it looks like it'll be an entertaining show for sure, but yeah the animation ain't quite there (and it's not like other great animated shows don't suffer the occasional low frame rate....)
This looks infinitely better than the first trailer.
Gonna watch this as I REALLY loved Avatar TLA.
The art in this is absolutely stunning but the framerate is headache inducing even just from that trailer. Really unfortunate that they chose to do that as a "stylistic choice".
Ehh, more render time costs money. It might be a (bad) stylistic choice, but technically it is cheaper.
To get a chance to work with the people who made Avatar? This is far from the worst transition.
I was going to mention this. It mightn't save much or any effort on the artistic side, but targeting a lower framerate has a direct relationship with render time, which both costs money and can impact workflow.
At times it feels okay, and other times it makes my brain feel like it's tilting sideways. Which is reallllly uncomfortable. I hope the story's so good that I just forget.
Yeah, kinda felt dizzy. I don't think it's something I can just ignore.
Some of the scenes in the new trailer look fine, others look like the same horrid low fps stuff of the first.

It was only tolerable in Knights of Sidonia because virtually all the action was in the mechs, which they didn't seem to use the same framerate on. Here it just looks CHEAP

Just saw the new trailer, it raised my hopes for the series considerably after admittedly being a little unsure about my thoughts on the framerate. Like most folks here I would definitely prefer it to look a bit smoother, but otherwise the production values of the series look on-point, and the teases of characterization and cast hint towards some cool characters arcs in this show. With the Avatar Head Writer behind it I'm hopeful going into it, looking forward to checking it out!
Goodness there are some backwards ass decisions with the presentation on this. The visuals aren't springy enough to warrant the frame rate gimmick. It works with the Spider-man animation because it is bright and fast and kinetic. It fits the tone. It feels pointless here. I don't see why they thought it was a good idea. I really hope they are hearing this negative feedback.
I want to be more excited for this because of Aaron Ehasz involvement but I'm just not sure.
I think the characters will be fine but the story/world-building comes across as very generic. I do love dragons tho so I'm looking forward to watching this and Bojack when it launches.

The art is fantastic, but i also agree that it's a little too choppy in execution. The incredible and incredibly underrated Tron: Uprising did this style at a higher level.

im legit fucking angry at the low framerate. like, in stills i love the art. thats not how animation should work. it should be best in motion. but this? this is such a waste of the animation, writing, and acting talent on display here.

Still looks like ass in motion and that unstoppable joke was not very good. If it was coming from a Sokka like character sure but I don't think it fits that character.
Should have waited for the new Nvidia cards before rendering this.
Ugh...as most have been saying that frame rate really makes it hard to watch. I could never make it through any of the CG anime with the same problem. It's a shame.
Kinda agree. The Zaheer arc was good stuff.
If anything TLA has way too many filler episodes,for my liking anyway. Took a while to get going for me compared to Korra.
TLA doesn't have filler to my recollection. It has episodes dedicated to character development rather than being focused on the "main plot" but that's completely different from filler.
FYI this has been received rave reviews ahead of the Friday premiere.

Unfortunately it seems like they were purposefully going for that look, and we won't be getting a smoother version anytime soon given each frame was apparently individually composited (at least based on one animator's explanation).
