We're slowly devolving into the shitshow we thought this thread would be. God forbid the MC ticks down one more point. There may be no survivors.

I can't wait for Zelda to be brought up in Red Dead's review thread...and every other game until the end of time. :P

Haven't played a zelda game since Majora's Mask. Can someone quickly elaborate why BOTW is considered the pinnacle of open world gaming?

This game could just be swinging around New York and I'd still buy it. It looks amazing and fun as hell. Repetitive side missions and boss fight complaints don't bother me in the slightest.

I'm buying this game for the free roaming, everything else is just cherries on top.

1) have a shitty framerate
2) have an empty world
3) have a shitty story
4) have shitty quests
5) have terrible combat
6) have nice art direction and a big world and be part of a long running franchise so everyone overrates it

Damn son! That's bait.
I couldn't disagree more.

But I'm not even hating you know, but I'm pretty sure other people are so brace yourself

Very happy to see this equated to a "summer blockbuster" movie in videogame form. Sounds like it's a blast gameplay-wise, doesn't sound too long, and looks great.

*review thread intensifies*
Things are heating up...

Anyways, it sounds like the traversal is excellent and this is one of the most important things to me in an open world game.

How did BotW come up? Why?
It's the most acclaimed, influential, and discussed game of the past couple years.

I don't really get why people ask "why is BotW getting brought up." It's ok to compare games to each other. Naturally, the most influnetial ones will be brought up, like BotW and the Witcher 3 for this gen.

It's also because Spider Man is an open world game with heavy focus on traversal, similar to BotW.

lol, why do people get mad about breath of the wild in every review thread?
Because no other game is going to get 97 MC in a long time, Zelda or not...

Now seriously, the Belda argument is tiring, you can disagree with the reviews, which is fine and all, but using the "the main reason it scored that high is the name" is delusional at this point.

They did the same thing with Monster Hunter.

You'll have to realize at some point that they're just appealing to the intellectuals and you're not woke enough to get it.
It's not like they've ever denied that they take a more literary critical approach to game coverage than most other sites--it's been their mission statement from day one. The, 'they're shoving politics into everything!' sorts of posts you see in threads like this, in response to their pieces, utterly baffle me, honestly. They're always in response to perfectly reasonable, well-argued conclusions, supported by textual evidence.

Anyway, for people like me who are waiting until the DLC is all out, thatll be like 3 hours each probably so you're looking at like 30 hours for main content plus side stuff. That isnt bad ar all for a non rpg.

The Witcher 3 can't enter in the discussion. I only accept games that have 98 MC and higher. Botw is out as well.

I mean, I know what you're doing but this is exactly my own thoughts without even baiting anyone.

It has nothing to do with this thread(not to mention its absurd exaggeration). Stop that.

I think it is justifiable to critique something for being too familiar or safe.
Most AAA games they've scored highly run off the same template and weren't dinged for the same thing.

Its a Spider-Man game, a comic book super hero game, a genre that mostly has been awful outside of the Arkham series and early 00's Spider-Man games. They're not making Citizen Kane over there.

Personally I wouldn't call it "the pinnacle", but it's certainly the most refreshing, and one of the best.

It's sort of hard to put in words though. It's not a game packed with side quests, objective markers, NPCs who have jobs for you, etc. Yet, it encourages you to explore through other ways, and feels a LOT more natural. The world is a character, and from the first moment in the game until the last, you'll keep seeing things in view that you'll want to go check out, and the game delivers, and delivers, and delivers. It's a world begging to be explored and you just sort of get lost in it. It doesn't feel like "oh this is from that game, that's from this game", it's super immersive in that you'll just get lost in it for hours and days and weeks. It really feels like your adventure, more than any other game I've ever played. It's also a super malleable game, in that it lets you do a ton of different things for any given situation.

Here are a few more quick things that I couldn't get to in our review (because I didn't want it to be 3,000 words).

As a huge fan of Spidey, seeing Brandon Jones (Easy Allies) praise Insomniac for putting so much love and care into the world and truly getting the character, that's a hype boost.

Easily my biggest worry for the title was the story and the game missing what makes Spiderman such an amazing hero.

I don't have much interest in this game but 87-88 is a great score. If this is your type of game you won't be disappointed. No need for all the weird negativity/trash talk. It reeks of console warrior bs.

Thank you for this, I assume he had a spoiler warning cause I really like his input.

He might not have considered it so maybe, but if you'd prefer not to really know about what villains are in the game (or not) and when/how long, you might want to stop about a third of the way in. Won't bother everyone by any means but it certainly will some. Worth a mention anyway.
