How many hours does the game take to beat? I figure I'm really going to take my time with all the side stuff.

High 80s is fine, folks. Not every game needs to be clawing for the "10/10 best of all time" top slot. High 80s, especially for a superhero game of all games, is insanely good.

Happy for the Insomniac crew. Even if I have personal issues with some of the choices they've made, I'm glad the game is being received so well. They deserve success.

Lol @ people getting their britches in a kink over Waypoint of all publications talking about the political context of actual in-game content. That's kind of their thing, and yes, it's relevant.

People consider Spider-Man 2 the apex of Spider-Man games but it's side content is some of the most repetetive in gaming!

Lower than I expected, but I'll still be picking it up Friday.

How do I get the Homecoming/Civil War suit? I need to get it asap.
You can unlock it pretty early on by taking on side activities to get "tokens". You get these tokens by doing certain challenges like webbing 3 guys to a wall in a fight. Once you have the required amount of tokens for your suit of choice, you can craft it. Some suits are locked behind levels though.

But having side activities and icons and markers that unlock stuff around the world aren't Ubisoft things. They're "open world action game" things. Even Witcher 3 has monster nests and collectibles

From the impressions, a closer comparision might be be Crackdown. Because if the core mechanics are fun to play around with and collectibles have a purpose of unlocking new abilities and skills, is it busywork simply because the activities follow a familiar template?
Picking up collectibles trinkets and doodads is absolutely busywork.

Like, what am I reading? "Woah man, if it's fun to web swing, low effort content can't possibly exist" You wouldn't play a whole game of taking pictures and picking up backpacks, nor would you play a game that is solelt traversal. That's because there's not enough meat to them compared to the rest of the game.

A little spoilery. There are some aspects that I saw for the first time. Stuff not found in the trailers. I'm sensitive to spoilers, though. It's not too bad.
Cool then, I've watched the Skill Up review already with some new (amazing) footage so I guess it'll be all right. Thanks!

I think this game deserves to hit a higher metacrtic score than the original PS1 Spider-Man. Currently they are neck and neck (the original game only has 17 critic reviews though) at 87. The original game doesn't even hold up well at that. All these 10s and 9s and somehow 5 mixed reviews are bringing it under 90.

But that's what BotW does differently. So what is it exactly you want different if not that? Can you describe what it is you're after?
You dont have to copy BotW to do things differently. I do agree that this model is getting kinda old, it works nicely for linear stories but I cant play more than 1 without needing a break for a couple of months.

For the record, BotW is my fave open world game of all time, so if there are more games like that in all for it lol.

I do you one better. Dark Reign was inspired by The 9/11, Iraq war, patriot act, etc

impossible! escapism! escapism! escapism!

Spider Man 2 gets put on a pedestal because of it's web swinging. there are a handful of better Spider Man games.

I would if those things were mechanically or narratively satisfying to do which seems to be the case for Spider-Man.

I am feeling like sony aaa first party are too easy to platinum lately. Maybe even before hzd

They are for the most part. Some of god of wars was a little challenging due to the game's difficulty and the optional bosses but I don't think you were required to beat them on hard or anything, so you could bump it down if you wanted.

My thing with them was always the low amount of trophies too. Obviously a minor gripe and all, don't misunderstand, but like why so many of their games only do 25-35 trophies? lol

Ultimate Spider-Man all day man. Replayed it recently and the art style somewhat holds up AND it manages to incorporate a bevy of other Marvel characters.

That or Neversoft PS1 Spidey.
