25-35 hours to complete everything sounds perfect. Sounds like Horizon ZD in that it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Damn It's close. I said 84.looks like I lose. Good reviews. A little higher than what I expected. I was very confident it would be under 90 though. Insomniac is good, but they haven't gotten a score over 90 in 12+ years

Spider-man will probably disappoint as well. I'm thinking a metacritic score somewhere in the mid 70s. It'll be fine, but nothing mind blowing.

Of course Arkham Asylum wouldn't score the same today, it's a 9 year old game. And I didn't say I wanted Spider-Man to follow whatever BOTW did. I'm saying after BoTW shook up the formula it's hard for me to go back to the last-gen model of open world games

What's the last gen model of open world games, and what's the next gen model? Please do explain.

Jim Sterling's review kind of took a little bit of the wind out of my sails on this one.

"This feels like the Mr. Negative show."

Yikes.

Arkham City may have some of the best combat ever made. You people trashing it are off your rocker! I'd be shocked and excited if Spider-Man is as good, as I think it can be a great game even if it's combar is t as good.

Mmm... Was expecting a 90+, but that's still pretty good! Easily the best Spider Man game ever made anyway.

Wait, how the hell is trump getting mentioned in here?
Waypoint

The small moments stick with me, though. Mary Jane doesn't put up with Peter's shit, and instead of crawling back because that's what Spider-Man's girlfriend is supposed to do, she does her own thing—and succeeds. At one point, Peter outright calls someone a facist for being, well, a fascist. J. Jonah Jameson now hosts an Alex Jones-like radio show to spout his conspiracy theories about Spider-Man, and like Jones himself, his fear-mongering is occasionally correct- ish just enough for him to be dangerous. It's a character played for laughs, but one with some notably disturbing real-life overtones. It's all refreshingly pointed, especially in a game that, despite being set in New York, seems to avoid any reference to the pseudo-fascist currently in the White House

I get you Americans are obsessed with trump. But mentioning him in a Spiderman review/game makes no sense.

A Marvel character who has had several stories rooted in politics, who lives in New York, whose recent run was one of the most polarizing among the "diversity in comics" crew........... but you can't mention politics?

This is like saying "why would you talk about politics in a review of Metal Gear?!"

So fucking tired of this bullshit. This is a spiderman game. Polygon should get their shit together. If they want to talk about trump and other idiots then they should stop reviewing games and go get a job at CNN.
Waypoint are commenting about content that is in the game...

Also, "this is a Spiderman game" indeed:

I don't get the criticisms of length. Not everyone can sit and sink 200 hours into a Witcher style game. It's Spiderman, there's only so much original content you can fit in there without it just becoming a super repetitive grinding mess. 15-20 hrs is good for me. Same with people who criticised TLOU when it first came out. My playtime ended up at 22 hours. I took my time (probably died a lot) and soaked it up and it felt suitably epic without outlasting it's welcome. Others rushed through in 10 hours or so and complained. Meh. Can't keep everyone happy I suppose.
I'm with you. I'm glad to see it's an open-world game that's not 50+ hours of bloat...I already play enough of those, haha. 20 to beat with maybe another 10 hours to complete sounds about perfect to me.

12-15 hours sounds great to be honest. It's about quality + you know that time will be doubled just swinging about lol

I find it a bit strange how people are posting that they're happy with the fact that it's the "best Spider-Man game", as if that's a high bar to clear. They seem relieved! Like, has there ever even been a Spider-Man game that's better than mediocre? Treyarch's Spider-Man 2 from 2004 appears to be the only one that's come close and even that wasn't a particularly good game outside of its web-slinging.
How peculiar!

People are excited about a great game.

People are excited about a great superhero game.

People are excited about a great superhero game revolving around a beloved, historied brand.

Great reviews, around the scores I'd expected. I was already sold, but this just justified my hype.

Congrats to Insomniac, now let's that Sunset Overdrive sequel.

Really surprised with the 88. That's a fantastic score. Thought it would get an 84.

It's exciting to think how much better the sequel will be, and how seemingly easily Sony has another big IP on their hands this gen that will carry them forward. I am sure lots of hard work went into this, but it just seems like this game had such a short dev cycle and is already destined for big success.

Honestly better than I thought, and got good reviews from the only outlets I really pay attention to any more (EZA & ACG)

The length is perfect. Who the hell needs another bloated 50-hour open-world game? Plus, there's plenty of repetitive side stuff to do if you really want to get your money's worth.

Some of you people would include this shit even in Nintendogs. Smh
