One NBA 2K producer said this, not an entire publishing label.
Yeah but microtransactions are in all their games though so It seems pretty clear to me that it's a 2K policy not this man's decision.

Here the Senior Producer just agrees with what his execs are asking him to do. Like many people, he prefers money than doing the good choice. It's ok but at least accept it an take responsibility: "yes we're using microtransactions and we build our games around this mechanic but it helps us making even more profit with less efforts than making more and better game (yeah seems that the whole industry forgot that what sells at first is... good products! ).

Lol, they write as if they have no control whether they are included in their games or not. They certainly have control over how heavily they are implemented, and by all accounts NBA 2k had a shitty implementation of them.

I'm all for time saver packs but when everyone is faced with a shitty grind or these packs it's too much.

He's a producer not the CEO of 2k (which is why that thread title feel bit misleading to me) I doubt he has much say in whether the game as microtransaction or not.

I've bought every NBA2K for the past 10 years, and last year was the final straw. I can't support a game with these horrendous practices any longer.

It's a reality because you made it so. In NBA 2k17 and earlier they were far less prevalent than NBA 2k18. Why does my character start out as a level 55-60 scrub that has no business being on an NBA team for his first season? I mean, to get to about the point that a $60 micro-transaction gets you, you have to grind multiple days, probably about 4 1/2 real days before you get to that level and that's just to see if the character attributes you decided to go with are something you're interested in. You're spending more if you don't want your character to look like a hobo.

Only further reinforces me to not buy 2k games.

Well 2K has drawn their line in the sand. I'll support games that aren't filled with micro transactions. Thank you Shenmue, Yakuza 2, Dragon Quest 11, Fist of the North Star, & Spider-Man.

The unfortunate reality that generates massive amounts of money for you? This is definitely the case for some games, but its insulting coming from 2k whose simutantiously one of the best selling and most aggressively monetized in the industry.

I reject your unfortunate reality and substitute my own. With mods.
And yet even mod-loving developers like Bethesda Game Studios are shifting away from single player and mods with Fallout 76, towards online-only gameplay presumably for loot box opportunities or their version of it. The Elder Scrolls Online is already rife with them.

Here's hoping Starfield and TES6 remain 100% single player and mod friendly, even if they have optional multiplayer elements. If not... all hopes lie with CDPR I suppose.

2k should try a shot at comedy. Everything they say these days are comical without they even trying.

Considering the state of NBA 2K, the whole company is certainly behind that. It's not even MTX in itself are bad but rather egregarious way they have been implemented, starting with '18 especially.
Yeah, it's not like this producer is the one behind all of 2K's decision regarding monetization in their games.

Please don't ruin RDR2 online
You're kidding yourself if you expect RDR2 will not be plagued with microtransactions after GTA Online.

It doesn't really matter - this headline (and consequently this thread title) is still extremely misleading.

Why are people arguing over 2K vs Producer? If you believe the CEO of 2K believes differently you're kidding yourself.

He's not exactly wrong

Makes no sense for games to cost $60 for decades despite spiraling costs of development. To top it all, consumers now expect significant discounts shortly after release.

Microtransactions may well be a necessary evil to help dev studios thrive

That doesn't mean you have to be predatory and/or scummy with your micro-transactions though.

2K can get lost with their monetisation of the NBA games. An utterly awful system that somehow manages to get worse every year.

"...every game, at some point, in some way has currency and they're trying to get additional revenue from each player that plays the game."

I must be playing kames. They certainly remind me of games, but they don't ask for my money more than once.

you really dont need to provide a way of people to skip everything and be number one just because they paid for it, specially not in competitive multiplayer games

Seriously. When did this "let's just let everyone pay to win" mentality become so widespread?

Just because it's the easiest way doesn't mean it's the right way.

Another company trying to manipulate people by saying some fiction is reality for their own gains?
Nothing to see here folks.

Last I checked, I own about 100 Switch games, 300 Xbox One Games and 30 PS4 games and about 10 of them have Microtransactions.

Tell me again about how "All Games" do this now?

Psychologically terrorizing? LOL

They invest millions of dollars into research on how to best manipulate users into feeling obliged to purchase microtransactions with zero regard for ethics and sometimes even legislation. FACT. Lol all you want, you're being played and they're not even trying to hide it. But let me guess, "marketing doesn't work on me because I am smartz!"

I don't mind actual MICROtransactions. 1-2 dollars for small cosmetic things is somewhat ok. But things are very far from micro nowadays and have grown into macro. Having to pay the price of a full retail game for three skins in Fortnite or a single gacha pull costing 15-20$/€ is nothing but greed and moral bankruptcy, especially with the psychological trickery R&D'd and used by developers and publishers to lure vulnerable people (whales/people with problems controlling impulse purchases) into wasting a lot of money.
