Actually the original Japanese name of Cobblestone has a very interesting interpretation related to "Roto" (Japanese version of "Erdrick").
In the English version they named it as "cobblestone", I don't understand. Is there any deep meaning of this cobble word (is it possibly related to "Erdrick"?). I saw your name and your avatar pages ago and was very surprised too, is it a mere coincidence? :P

It's absolutely a coincidence. Jacobbles is from Jacob, my name, and Cobbles is just a shortened version of that. Also I like slimes, so there's the avatar connection.
The DQ11 Cobblestone thing is purely coincidental.

Im not even a dq fan, someone just linked me to a video of special attacks like a year ago. I saw about a minute of it,then saw theres about 30 minutes of those closed the tab and decided i wanted it.
im a huge sucker for jrpgs with bucketloads of unnecessary flashy skills. Over the top skills is why i got into jrpgs. The last gen some moved to realism and low skill counts while others moved into neptunia nonsense territory.
Its why bravely second is the only jrpg i loved last gen.

Would recommend Trails of Cold Steel if you're really into flashy, Limit Break style moves.

Cobblestone is a type of building material. I haven't played DQ1-3, so I don't even know the actual legend of Loto/Erdrick, but there shouldn't be anything that special about "Cobblestone" as a name.

Who knows. I had never thought anything special about the original name "ishi" (means "stone" in English), until I saw a thread said that change "ishi" into kanji character 石, then break it into ロ and ト, which means "Roto" (Erdrick).

"Cobble" has sorta humble, homey, rustic, or modest connotations, ie. cobbles, cobbler. There's no connection to Erdrick, but it's a suitable name for a starting town and gives it a sense of "humble beginnings."

I like your interpretation.
English version of DQ often translates the intent nicely. Let's see if I can find some more about this in later narratives.

That was the first thing I did too, from 10 o 3. Now it is playing faintly in the background and it makes the game much better. It's a sad state of affairs when a game is much better when you tone down or completely turn off its music. :(

As a composer myself the last thing i want to be doing is turning down the music but alas, i went down 3 notches but it needs to come down a bit more. The choice to go down the midi route is a baffling one. It doesn't work for me. There's also to much music, most of the time i really just want to wander, take in the sights, let the FX do their work, but even the FX are a real mixed bag.

btw, the music much like I thought it's fine in MIDI. It don't really bother me in anyway.

As in the compositions, I already liked what I heard before the game was released in the initial ones are good. Now I want to hear the great ones that probably will only appear more in the future.

Is Dragon Quest XI currently the top-selling game on Steam? That's what the list is telling me. I don't think this is personalized in any way, but could someone else check? If it's really #1 on the top-sellers list, that's pretty extraordinary. It just seems odd, since it's #18 on the Amazon top video games list. Although, if you limit it to only actual games and exclude things like controllers and PSN gift cards, it's #5.
It's sixth on mine:

Argh I don't know which version to get!

I have a PS4 PRO and a 4k TV.

I have a PC with a 1080ti and a 4k Montior.

PC is upstairs on my desk and my PS4 pro is down in my sitting room.

I could do steam in home streaming down to my Samsung TV for Comfy Couch but I'm limited to 1080p then and possible input lag.

Ugh....

It shows up as #1 on Steam for me (USA)

Side note: I get different listings if I just look at the 'Top Selling' tab on the main store page vs if I actually click into the Top Sellers or Global Top Sellers sections.

Ah, right! I'm in the US. If I set my VPN elsewhere the list changes. #1 top selling Steam game in the US is pretty impressive! I hope this game can be the breakthrough the series deserves outside of Japan.
Would be really cool to see the series succeed on PC. Anything that gets these games into the hands of more players.

It is impressive that it's selling this much considering they haven't shown anything about the port at all. At least MHW had PC previews sent to various streamers and press people and while they didn't really cover the reality of the port that well due to testing on mostly powerful machines or not testing all the areas(Kushala/Teostra shit for example, or the whole online which wasn't available prelaunch) at least there was something.

I really want to grab this early for the preorder bonus+reduced price but the absolute lack of info is kinda worrying. It is square so it's not their first port but who knows which team they put on the port, and if they'll bother fixing anything more than the minimum.

Still 8 hours left. COME ON. I'm done with Shenmue and I don't want to waste my day off on Overwatch.

I really need to finish DQ V, VI, VII and VIII before jumping into XI. I know they stand on their own, but I like playing these types of series in progression. The same goes for FF...

60fps always matters
Sure, I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all. I just don't know know that it matters that much for a turn-based game. So, convenience might be more compelling. For me the combination of convenience and having a physical copy for my shelf was enough to outweigh 60fps and the possibility of an eventual orchestral mod and make me go for PS4, but that's different for everyone.

All 11 DQ game have featured a silent protagonist who is always male right?

I wonder if they'll ever venture into the realm of having a non-silent protagonist or *gasp* even worse, a FEMALE PROTAGONIST!

All kidding aside I'm just sitting here waiting impatiently for (hopefully) my copy arriving sometime today.

What about visual novels?
IRL your eves see books at thousands of FPS.

It's a turn based RPG, but it also has a huge 3D world to explore and camera controls. 60fps (or more) will be a big difference in smoothness overall compared to the PS4 versions.

If the PC port is decent it will be far and away better than the Pro version.

I don't know. It may be a big difference for some people, but I'm perfectly fine with playing a 3D turn-based RPG at 30fps.

I think the designer considered about the gender balance in 11. The character design of protagonist has some feminine elements (especially the hair). And quite some NPCs say the hero looks like a girl.

Can anyone explain? Note that Im a DQ newb.
Erdrick is the English name of the legendary hero the Dragon Quest 1 protagonist is descended from / the protagonist of DQIII. It's a famous enough detail to be referenced in Zelda 2 and the original Final Fantasy:

EDIT: Blah, major brain fart.

Guys, I think I have a problem...

All the DS games are NIB. :D

I fucking love this series. It's amazing how much support the series got on the original DS.

Regarding the stories. They aren't meant to be War and Peace and that's exactly what I love about them. They're so charming and absolutely lovely. These games are a comfortable pillow. A full body pillow I just want to cuddle.
Whats the deal with some games getting the DQ logo with the sword as the "T" and some don't get the sword? They're really inconsistent even with VIII on PS2 vs VIII on 3DS!

This looks interesting but I don't know if I should get it. I tried playing the 3DS DQ games and always stopped after a couple of hours. The battle systems were so basic and simple that I got no enjoyment out of the games. Is this game still like that?
