I'm just gonna say Fuck It and throw gasoline on the fire

The question at this point is just how much Spidey over performs at market, not if it will.

If this thing reviews a 90+ Meta just start throwing random huge launch numbers out there because it will hit them

The marketing is already pretty crazy. I'm watching the Va. Tech vs. FSU game and it seems like the commercial for Spider-Man is being run every other break. It's really seems like it's been ramped up over the weekend.

Does the average joe gamer know about metascores?

I'm confused about that. Like, who is the metascore talking to?
It will REALLY add to a positive word of mouth. The average joe wouldnt know about metascores, but those buying the game will read and hear how high the reviews are, especially when social media is a thing.

That's crazy. That 90+ tomorrow and I predict it will beat GOW.

It's entirely possible. I'm not ready to commit to that yet, but above 1 million NPD opening is pretty much locked up barring shockingly poor reviews

I think getting close to 90+ also seems to have some impact, since Horizon landed on 89 meta and still went on to sell just under 8m in less than a year. I get the feeling Spider-Man will sell more than Horizon irrespective of its meta though.

Yeah for sure. Horizon was close enough to 90 it still pretty much had the same effect. That said even though the difference between say a 90 and a 94 doesnt sound huge, in practice it is. Each "marginal" jump up 90 has an affect believe it or not. Not true for say the 70s or 80s

It's not strictly about metacritic scores, but the review embargo means that there will be a point in time where there is a truckload of Spidey-related review/info/impression hitting all at once, and the narrative that is created from that aggregation of reviews definitely have an impact on consumer anticipation for the game.

When suddenly all games media outlets that have a reach of millions of people combined all shout out to their userbase "SPIDER-MAN IS <REDACTED>!", people will notice even if they aren't explicitly following up on Spidey news, and that last mile in terms of positive review drops are about pushing fence-sitters over the wall.

It's also why games that are expected to review extremely well more often than not have an early embargo - because publishers believe that the score will be good/strong enough that the narrative and awareness about the positive reception will be longer than a 24-hour stretch and will only compound further.

Exactly this. In fact publishers invite people to do mock reviews before a game launches all the time in order to get a feel on how it's going to go and when the embargo should be stated for

Oh Benji.

The last time you did this was with God of War.....

Hold on to your butts, folks.

PS4 is gonna take that month easily. What month does that count for NPD, Sept?

Yep. I remember when lots of people were doubting me when I told them a new NPD Sony record was incoming for GoW launch. You would think my track record speaks for itself by now though

benji is there even a chance that Spider Man could outsell Red Dead 2?

Nope. Red Dead beats everything else this year

I would think that Spider-Man vs western genre would give Spidey the edge due to the broader appeal? Red Dead is trending that strongly?

Red Dead is multiplatform, is a Rockstar game, and it's the first R* game after their best selling one ever with GTAV

People thinking the original RDR is some sort of measuring bar for Red Dead 2 are woefully off base we are looking at a guaranteed 20+ million seller there and that's a conservative estimate

That's true. Being multiplatform and being R's first truly current gen game post-GTA V are pretty huge advantages

It's a given Sony's pushing the fuck out of this game during Thursday's NFL opener yes? It's too perfect not to do it, the game's mere hours before the game launches and the possibilities for mainstream appeal are huge!

Do we know if they're sponsoring?

Does the game offer actual side missions, or only collectibles? If its just collectibles, I could see some critics knocking down a few points for the lack of true side content.

Game looks absolutely amazing though, I'm gonna put my guess at 89 Metascore

Does Red Dead beat Black Ops 4?
I have a $400 dollar bet for Red Dead being the best selling title in 2018 globally across all platforms.

Man, my youtube sub box is gonna be filled with spiderman content all throughout tomorrow and probably the other 2 days leading to release.

Everyone seems excited and it looks polished as hell. Guessing around 91. If it gets higher than that then the story is probably also notably good.

Yes I believe Red Dead Redemption 2 outsells BO4. Maybe not this calendar year, BO4 may edge that. But I anticipate much stronger legs for Red Dead

Though the whole Battle Royale thing is a massive unknown X factor. If that takes off for BO4 could totally change everything

But sorry guys dont wanna go too off topic here. Its Spidey hype time!!!

Yes, there's actual side missions, on top of the collectibles and side activities.

Insomniac's track record has me guessing in the mid 80's. I'd love to be surprised and its a 90+ GOTY contender, but I have my doubts. They never quite get to that level with critics for some reason. Having said all of that, I don't really care lol... gonna play this regardless. The last Ratchet and Clank (my first Ratchet and Clank game) was easily a top 3 GOTY candidate.

Shit I think I accidentally clicked on the spoiler page instead lf this. God damnit.

yeah it's really lame the way stuff is posted in there.

but internet gonna internet

It actually happened to me lol. I know it's totally my fault for not paying attention but would've been nice to start with spoiler warning and then Spiderman.
Anyways what's done is done.

The mods should add more *spoiler* warnings to the thread title, like they did with the God of War spoiler theard.

I hope it reviews well, but I'm really not sure how critics are going to review this one. This is arguably my most anticipated game this year.
