IF something is broken then its obviously their problem. In this case there is nothing to "fix". Would it be nice for PSN to be in every country? Heck yes. From a consumer's perspective it would be ideal, but from a pragmatic view of the way that corporate finances work it's not gonna happen anytime soon. No need take one sentence out of context, though I could have been a bit clearer.

If Sony them selves sell the PS4 in his country then it is there issue when psn does not work. Can't have thier cake and eat it too.

While it's true that Sony could do a ton to fix PSN ( global store, payment options, regional DLC-incompatibility, etc etc )...

This case appears to be more so a situation where a contest is set-up in consideration of legal and regional restrictions, and we're seeing a worthy player that isn't eligible via contest terms be qualified in ability, but not the terms and conditions of the contest. And this is relatively common, as online contest that also have a physical factor to them sometimes state 'sorry, you must actually live in America, etc etc" to be qualified to join this contest, etc etc or giveaway.

What I would propose, or consider doing to help the Philippines racer's ineligibility is to appeal to Kazunori/Sony/Polyphony to set-up a "Global Invitee" list where invitations are extended to qualified and capable racers who are not eligible for regional reason.

we also don't have nintendo e-shop, but it doesn't matter as much
Having native support is better, you won't need to make workaround for things to work, and resolving issues is better. NIntendo should improve on this too, but unfortuunately they are a small company and thus have limited resources

It sucks that he wasn't eligible after they invited him just because he lives in Philippines, and that he is representing his country despite that the email state he is representing Asia.

He was competing as a resident of Hong Kong, when he was not a resident of Hong Kong. It's that simple.

All of the Asian region qualifiers were invited to a tournament to determine the regional champion.

This has nothing to do with PSN. It has everything to do with the rules of the tournament he entered.

Someone who is a resident of the Philippines is not eligible. Someone who is a resident of Hong Kong is eligible. America has PSN. Yet, by the rules, someone who is a resident of Arizona is not eligible.

You keep trying to twist this into some big conspiracy, but it's nothing more than a clear cut case of a contest with a specific list of who is eligible to enter. He was not eligible, therefore he was disqualified.

He should have read the rules 1st. It sucks he cant participate because thers no PSN in his country but it also sucks to steal a spot from a redident of another country. But thats how contests work. They are only open to a certain amount of contries, if your not a redident in one of those contries then though luck. If his dream is to be an e-sports driver, he can follow his dream if he moves to a legit country. Meanwhile he and other filipino comunities can make petitions to try make Sony oficially release PSN in the philipines.

I just can't believe how far people will go to defend Sony. It is almost 2019 and Sony still doesn't have global support for PSN. Every store on PC has global support and unified accounts and one of the biggest corporations in the world still doesn't. It's not like MS is any better to be honest but at least they are allowing purchases with PayPal from other regions but it still sucks.

Sucks that this has happened to super gt, but entering a regional competition as an outsider is probably not fair to the locals, for the purposes of a region limited competition.

Yup. I'm surprised to see this defense.

So since I'm filipino and I live in the Philippines, let me tell you the frustration that is the PlayStation in the Philippines.

First, PlayStation is big here. Nintendo is a distant 2nd. Xbox is laughable.

PlayStation has been launched here officially since the PS2. Yes, PS2. It was officially supported here but the games were NTSC/J so it failed because Japanese is something we don't understand. PS3 was officially launched here supporting online games. Yet they do not support Philippines as a country for registering in PSN. We even have PS+ and PSN being sold in Sony stores and even marketed in Sony Philippines' website. PS4 then was officially launched but still no Philippine support. The PS brand is officially supported here yet we don't have our country listed in Philippines. THAT IS SONY'S PROBLEM! Now the eligibility doesn't necessarily mean that Philippines is not supported. The reason is just because PSN is not out here. That is still Sony's problem.

It's not just Sony, but also Nintendo that still doesn't have global support for the eshop. You don't know how glad I was that my Nintendo account, with digital games, wasn't locked into the Philippine region with no eshop. It happened when I requested from Nintendo support to change my account region back to US from Canada due to buying a Canada eshop card and not using up all funds. They told me since I was from the Philippines, that they could not change it to US and could only change it to Philippines. Thank God they didn't transfer the account balance or I would have been screwed.

I know how it is to live in country that doesn't have support for any console. I had to create fake account to even use damn console. And thing is neither console manufacturer does anything to change that. As I said if Ubisoft/EA/Valve/GOG can provide global stores with regional pricing support I don't see any reason why corporations as big as MS/Sony/Nintendo can't do the same.

While I feel sorry for him, the Philippines aren't mentioned in the eligible countries, so it's not like Sony hid that fact.

For years GT tournaments always had list of supported countries, and that fact was promoted very clearly. My country was sadly never on it.

Not being eligible for competitions due to regional restriction sucks. There's no way around this here except GT setting up a separate team for players who are qualified like him but can't enter coz of regional restriction. Then again this would make regional restrictions invalid in the first place so why bother having it if they come up with such a team.

They should try to include more regions next time.
