I was on a low sodium diet and I think I've just OD'd on salt. Good on Nike and Colin. Fuck the NFL.

The irony is that Nike has been exploiting the black community for years getting them to buy shoes that cost them 3 dollars to make in Indonesia for 350 dollars.
Is this a both sides problem? I blame Nike and our fellow Blacks so I'm gonna call it even. No one forces people to drop a paycheck on sneakers but I understand why.
Still REALLY hoping a team picks him up. For all of the sacrifices he's been willing to accept, he really just wants to play again. Let that man work.
That'd be great though I feel like his career would end shortly after because some shithead patriotic opposing player would hit him dirty.

Oh yeah, there would be a bounty on him so fast

Are you serious, bro? Do you honestly believe Nike are gonna host press conferences or print full page ads for Colin to deliver messages against social injustice? What you see today is what you get. This is a money game and Kaep cashed in on his infamy to sell Nike some more T-shirt's and sneakers.
No, but Nike isn't suppressing Kaepernick's freedom of speech like the NFL was doing. Kaepernick getting paid is a good thing and this doesn't hurt his message one bit unless you always hated Kaepernick to begin with.

If Kaep does anything that hurts their profits, you better believe they'll put a stop to it.

Good on Nike for representing him, and good on Colin getting paid and being a representative athlete despite being blacklisted by the NFL.

I also love how Nike made all the NFL jerseys for this season, so every NFL jersey has the Nike logo.

In fact, don't be surprised when the very next controversy will be players (or owners/coaches) covering or cutting those jersey logos in counter protest. It's going to separate the wheat from the shit very quick. It'll be an utter corporate shitstorm that will be completely fitting for 2018.

Great on Nike for taking the stand despite the alt-right, brainwashed blowback they knew they'd get.

That's fine and everything but cmon...Kaeps getting lot of cash, nike's getting publicity. Its just business. We shouldn't applaud this.

I agree with what Kaep's trying to achieve but I always thought his way of doing it was wrong.

Saw this pic on a niners blog.

For me it's an issue of context. Given this specific situation Kaepernick had to ensure that kinda supersedes the "corporation is profiteering from the struggle" angle to me.

Given that context bitching about Nike is the wrong move. To me at least.

Which is why it is a conversation I am willing to have here, where I can have it in relative good faith. We should be willing to have it in this particular context.

I sure as shit would not entertain it with any of my conservative co-workers though. In situations like that, you are 100% correct.

Is Nike donating to some of the causes he's championing? I'd care more about that than anything else. Colin's been real smart about transparency on where he donates to, so that'd be way more important to me than just Nike co-opting his statement for some buzz.

Pretty much this. Nike doesn't give a shit about everything Kaeps fighting for and he probably knows that.

I'm amazed at how many people don't get that Kaep was supposed to be turned into a cautionary tale.
Nike making some money doesn't change that they're spitting in the NFL's face.

Yep. What it also means IMO is that other brands were looking to get Kaep which I'd true shows just how marketable he is.

https://money.cnn.com/2018/03/27/news/companies/nike-nfl-gear-contract/index.html

Nike extended their deal with the NFL 8 more years this March lol. They're getting money from the NFL supporters and the they'll get it from the Kaep supporters now.
I imagine this is the real burn for him.

Except many in the military support Colin lol...
They're not real Americans.

Even if they don't, and Kaep spends every cent of the money they're giving him doing that himself..would it matter?

If Nike does tv ads with Kaep, will the NFL allow them to run them?
