What's baffling to me is that the entire point of community threads is to separate them from the main page and not clutter it up.

So now they add them to the main page and clutter it up, and they are surprised we are irritated?

How does this kind of cognitive dissonance happen?

When the people making the decisions are the ones who don't use the site.

The only "hilarious" thing here is that a) you accuse us of not giving a fuck despite me being here responding and staff reading the feedback as well and b) this basically serving as a feedback thread, and even if this thread would not exist, I'm pretty sure our members would find ways to make their voices heard. This could have been managed better, but those grand statements you are trying to make are making my eyes roll more than anything

Like are you just here to to be a L magnet or what

I'm not sure that you should be handing Ls after this catastrophic failure tbh :p

Okay, these comments are grinding my gears* because it rings false. We've heard this before. In many threads. Basically any thread where there's a screw up. But instead of doing better and communicating more effectively, it's gotten worse. After the catastrophic feedback thread (which you should have never made private), you decided to go even more private, bring in shadow users and more or less just spring changes on us. There's zero transparency. Like at least with GAF you knew it was Evilore's way or GTFO. Here it was ostensibly one whole community who wanted better. But instead we got a bunch of admins, some with a financial stake, mods and a selection of cherry picked users making decisions. Then, when you make a bad decision and it backfires, instead of engaging with the community the response is to lock/nuke threads and get in more private in how things are dealt with. Instead of fixing the themes people had problems with, you tell us to wait for 2.0, keeping people in the (legacy) dark and inevitably it'll have serious issues that were easy to see coming but because you never communicated with the community you didn't see them coming.

Every time you say you promise to do better and every time you do the opposite.

*also because a bunch of people just put me on their ignore lists because I make OTs. At least let them do it because I said something worth ignoring me for, I would've got there eventually. Oh and because I have to read three sections instead of two now.

I agree with you at least we knew its Evilore decisions with the old site. This site not so much. No mods or admins beside Nibel share their opinions in this thread.

dumb as fuck. half the page is OTs, in both forums. trying to find new threads is an exercise in patience..
What's hilarious is how some mods spun it that OTs totally wouldn't take up a ton of front page space because they don't get posted in as often.

Which seemed to defeat the purpose of giving the OTs more exposure.

I mean I only found this thread because of the locked one. Call me lazy, but making this shit harder to use makes me not want to use it at all. Which is sad, because I enjoy the discussions.

Personally, both the Entertainment and Etc subforums are poor reading experiences now. If we're gonna keep it as is, I'd like the option to ignore all the OTs.

You're right, but if it makes everything worse (including the thing it was allegedly made to address) then why bother keeping it around that long?

No, it's really not. It's completely broken the way a lot of us use this forum and "getting used to it" is telling us to accept a compromised experience.

Imagine getting forcefed shit and just telling everyone it's an acquired taste

I'm surprised that you would have this reaction Shauni considering you are one of our calmer members which is visible in that specific thread you have mentioned.

Don't shake your head too hard

I am surprised you actually acknowledged a post of mine so kudos! Not surprised that it was just a way to be condescending and dismissive without actually addressing anything I said there or have said about this in general.

But anyway, getting off that, is amazes me that you really are going to say that with how that thread went down, so yeah I will shake my head at it. Like I said in my later post, it's hard to believe you are being legitimate especially since you explicitly reference what I'm referring to. I can only hope

Apologies for my slow responses - I'll try to address as many concerns as possible

Do you have a UX designer/developer on your team?

Becuase this change certainly looks like you don't, or that they don't really get how to do it, because this layout is a UX nightmare...

Not saying this to be contrary or kick up a fuss, it's just a fact. Run it by a professional some time and they can list the reasons why.

Kirb, I get what you were getting at; I still think it's a somewhat inappropriate comparison considering we are talking about a forum restructuring here and there are probably better analogies than comparing it to one of the worst wars of all time.

Considering the current mob mentality in this thread I'd rather not do that? You can lash out your anger against me, the community reps might have agreed to the restructuring but shouldn't be held responsible for something that was ultimately decided by us

Am I not allowed to make lame jokes like some others here now?

I thought this place was supposed to be different

I've just done that and edited the title, but considering how fast things behind the scenes right now, I don't expect much usage of this thread

1) No
2+3) They were not "chosen", they've built small communities on their own and have been with us since the site's inception

If that's the case then you have never really bothered to approach SweetNicole or any other of us; considering I mostly know you from Hip Hop Era, I'm surprised by this. Feel free to contact her and tell her what communities you represent

No one build communities on their own they are made up of many different people. Take wrestlera or hip hop era. Sure one person may have created thread but there are plenty of members who make that Community what it is. I mean I can least count 15 maybe 20 prominent members just from wrestling era.

The change is definitely for the worse when it comes to the chances of me venturing outside the gaming section. Moving between two sections is just an unnecessary hurdle and the Entertainment side especially is just OTs on the first page..

Are you thinking it through? Look at the most recent 10 threads in gaming right now, it includes:

Octopath Traveler is dreadful
Is Devil May Cry 5 going to have the best combat system ever made for an action game?
The Silver Case has developed somewhat of a fan art following
Do you use the built in messaging system on consoles?

If you have a site where threads like that rise to the top, you have a site where people who want to participate in those threads use that site. If the OTs and mega threads push all that off the front page, those threads too will vanish, pushing away the users who want to participate in such threads, leading to less of those threads.

This is how "the old site" used to work until everything was changed and the community move happened, presumably in an attempt to get a lot more traffic. If that is the aim of the site, fine. But I'm much more in favour of a site that really just showcases dedicated communities and where only real/interesting news stays at the top.

Now I might be completely alone, but I think when a change like this moves us back towards the good old days happens, I need to applaud it.

Why are the people in-charge of this clusterfuck acting all snarky to their community.

Y'all screwed up this redesign. The community aren't the problem why y'all fucked up. Keep the snark out of your responses.

The theme update was bad, this is even worse. It's not really surprising that for a forum that was born with brute force, it probably takes years to find the proper way to run.

Awful change imo. The first page is full of OT's that I don't care about. The main reason that I browse in etc is for see the recent news.

Really wish we could hide threads on mobile without having to ignore users. Now that's a feature that we need more than... whatever happened here.

I thought it wouldn't bother me much but now it's gonna be so harder to find lower traffic threads, which is discouraging for discussion. I use Etc for news and now it's gonna be harder to get to that.
