.
From what I understand though is that this change actually feels like a step back to many (especially those who are interested in news and shit) because now you not only have to navigate through three forums to get to the content you are interested in but also have to browse through forums filled with OTs. From that perspective, it absolutely makes sense that a lot of you are annoyed about this change.
Which is why if the change sticks I'll just stop visiting as often. It isn't worth the trouble.dumb as fuck. half the page is OTs, in both forums. trying to find new threads is an exercise in patience..
Good the team is looking for feedback but seriously this Is something I need to throw out there.
I'd love to meet the absolutely insane person that clicks entertainment and peruses through the community threads with the occasional news.
"Hmm, what do I feel like this evening? Magic? Doctor Who? K-On? ooo, maybe some football then superheroes arguments!"
This is like a big bang theory level of fantasy nerd.
Yeah. This is why "just wait, you'll get used to it" rings hollow. The way you get used to it is by ignoring tons of community threads and prominent community members. The damage is done.I think this sort of change has the possibility of making the site less connected. If people wanted to have communities, there was nothing stopping them before, but now you have discussions about technology to explicitly ignore these threads. This change created this problem. If the first page of etcetera is fifteen OTs followed by a few of the most timely posts, things will get lost and posters will leave. If you want to give squeaky wheels the ability to self curate their experience, then do that, but do not curate it on the whole as a default.
YUUUP. No other mod has even attempted to show their face in this thread.ResetEra mods pulling straws to see who has to face the angry Era members and discuss these changes, with the homie Nibel getting the short end
You mean in a few weeks when all the new threads for returning TV shows are made further clogging up the Entertainment board on a regular basis? Nah, I already know what it'll look like which is why I'm hiding a massive amount of threads already and hope for an official way to do it so my mobile experience is as good as my PC experience. It's too early to make any fair judgment. It hasn't even been 24 hrs. Many of you need to get a grip.
Evaluate the changes after a few weeks.
Imagine getting forcefed shit and just telling everyone it's an acquired taste
So much this, personally I like the change. That way I can ignore the Trump stuff. The categories should've been
Interactive Entertainment / Static Entertainment / Trump shenanigans
Just ignore the OT creators loldumb as fuck. half the page is OTs, in both forums. trying to find new threads is an exercise in patience..
I'm kind of in awe at the nerve you have to say this when we had the announcement thread filled with people saying basically this exact same thing and went almost completely ignored and then just dismissed when it was acknowledged. SMH.
It's not meant to be dramatic. It's just that I watched Bush and co lead us into an unnecessary, catastrophic war with the best of intentions over the objections of people who saw that even being attempted with the best of intentions, it would end in catastrophe because the people involved did not understand the forces or circumstances with which they were attempting change. And so it becomes the obvious metaphor for me when a group of people think their righteousness is enough to justify overriding the concerns of people who understand the circumstances far, far better than they do.
Is the failed feedback thread the one that went up with the announcement, a mere two days before the change?
Also, how long was the thread open for before being locked?
Also, why was the post count of the thread hidden?
In accordance with transparency, can we please get a list of the Prominent Members?
Then may this please be stickied so people can easily find it?
Can y'all even tell us who the "prominent community figures" were that contributed to this current decision? How were they chosen? What was the input process like and for how long did it last before the decision to go-ahead was made? The lack of transparency on this particular part feels quite awful for us apparently non-important community members (aka, most of the users on the site).
if you're going to make a major change on how this site runs you don't use prominent members. You have a a thread that everyone can post in or have a simple Poll. cuz I don't know who the prominent members are they could be anybody you haven't told us. We don't know how many they are , we don't know what their goals are, we know nothing. Hell I'm probably probably remember since I'm a major part of multiple communities and I was shot this down immediately.
Nah dawg, papa Nibel knows better than a common user like yourself
Props to him for trying.ResetEra mods pulling straws to see who has to face the angry Era members and discuss these changes, with the homie Nibel getting the short end
YuuuupThe fact that the only people happy with the change are the ones who want to ignore "politics" is very telling.

If this, random thread is to become the de facto feedback thread then here is my feedback.
1. This tries to solve a problem that didn't exist. And doesn't solve it anyway.
People seek and participate in community threads that they have an interest in. People, by and large, did not randomly trawl through the Hangouts subforum looking for things to join.
If community threads had low volume, it is because there was insufficient interest - they will fade into obscurity regardless of whether they are in a dedicated forum or not. Meanwhile, community threads with a lot of interest will remain highly active, which leads to point two...
2. This greatly reduces the usability for what I imagine is the majority of people's use case and the bulk of site traffic - having a good source of news and a place to discuss it.
There are a range of active community threads, that when the site is active will typically have regular new posts, often these are just idle chit chat posts as well, "Hello how are you." etc. The deluge of community threads (1) simply creates noise to filter through and (2) pushes actual new news posts off the front page. People have begun actively filtering these out using scripts etc. Because simply having things you aren't interested in thrust in your face is not going to make you suddenly interested in them.
If you are interested in reading some particular community threads, this blunt approach isn't useful.
3. This ease of use is further negatively impacted by the splitting of "Entertainment" from everything else.
One now needs to visit two separate subforums in order to e.g. discuss the life of Aretha Franklin upon her passing and discuss the life of John McCain upon his passing.
My final feedback for now is probably that if this is a feedback thread it should be renamed as such and stickied. And also in relation to point three, it needs to be in both this Entertainment forum and the everything else forum. Because people aren't going to visit both all of the time.
So, to summarise the process:
- Initial announcement thread with auto-notify for all members disabled.
- Closed-door consultation with "prominent members" who the admin won't even confirm the number of.
- Pinned 3 day notice thread on a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend with most of the admin team absent.
- Locked feedback thread.
- Unpinned non-admin feedback thread that started out a as a joke thread.
So I guess my question is: would you guys be a bit more happy with this change if we had a thread ignore feature that works both on desktop or mobile? Or is this something that should be reversed because it harms your enjoyment of the forum?
LET THEM EAT CAKE
Dennis8KAs the most prominent of all prominent members (primus inter pares), I for one, am happy they followed all of my demands.
Holy shit lmao. I was wondering what was the deal with that "common" tag under the avatar before the changes today..Hey, I did it first! I just tried not to be too obvious about it lol
why is it us that has to reach out to you about these changesFeel free to contact her and tell her what communities you represent
It is the era of resets, after all. Don't say they didn't warn ya!Welp , forum is ruined. Time to hit discord and make a new forum using the same community of the previous forum but better somehow. Third time is the charm, isn't?
This was obvious for anyone with a clue as soon as it was announced. The fact that the only people happy with the change are the ones who want to ignore "politics" is very telling.
When the guillotines come for the prominent members after the revolution, do you believe you will be spared?
They looked at the data and all was well. How was this NOT THE FIRST THING admins saw when this wet fart of a idea was brought up?
Jesus Christ. And people where screaming it at you in the announcement thread too.
Or maybe you knew it would happen and just said fuck it?
