Jesus this sucks. Like, who thought this was a good idea? What's wrong with having entertainment and the day's big news events all on one tab?

I really don't like this change. Everything is so cluttered now and it's heard the clear overview of before. Now you mostly have the super active OTs on top and then it's "good luck, hope you find the non OT stuff".

A better solution that was mentioned in the announcement thread was to move the slow OTs from Hangouts to Etc.

1. Move all Hangout threads into one mega Hangout board.
2. Change "Entertainment" to "Politics/News" or whatever and have "EtcetEra" cover everything else.

Don't tiptoe around the Politics split like what's going on now. Either do it or don't. As is, the Entertainment board is likely gonna be a moderately relaxed board while EtcetEra will likely be filled with the heaviest topics (politics, news) and the lightest ones (silly personal threads, threads about the latest Taco Bell menu items). It's an odd combination the way it is now.

This new change is terrible. Both Entertainment and Etcetera are just filled with threads (community threads) I don't care about at all. They're all too specific and just cluster the forum.

At this point, I'd like a "ignore all OTs" function thats available on mobile as well.

So when is this happening to the gaming side?

LOL they said "Gaming doesn't really face this issue (in regard to low viz Etc. Hangouts), but we may consider reevaluating depending...". But as to why this: 1.) Split focus of Etcetera into two boards 2.) Collapse Etc. Hangouts 3.) Spread all those Hangout threads across the two non-gaming boards was done like this without any kind of alteration to gaming, is interesting.

That's up to you to interpret lol.

If kinda kills me that we have a gigantic feedback thread that is 97% posters arguing about ban durations, and then there are a few infrequent posters off to the side talking about how great it'd be if politics and entertainment were separate; and, lo and behold, a few weeks later, politics and entertainment are separate.

And to add insult to injury, they're combined with community threads for some reason, allotting approximately 2 spots on the front page of Etcetera for political news.

If it really went down in a manner similar to this, that's disappointing. This move overall is pretty disappointing to me and I'm worried about the community now, ironically enough.

if they felt like they absolutely haaaad to change things, they could have made a news forum and a shoot the shit forum, so if you just want news then you don't have to see threads asking if you wipe your ass horizontally or vertically

but now there's just poop everywhere

even regulars of Hangout threads never went to hangouts. You'd just track your subs. Because nobody wants to see forty threads for something they don't care about piling on. This doesn't help with visibility of underrepresented threads because it's too much noise

Yea, like really major threads like the hames gunn one....but any other types of threads, like advise, random stories, other stuff like that
Those sound like EtcetEra and from the breakdown the admins gave us they seem to have less OT's than Entertainment so will hopefully have even less potential issues than Entertainment.

Like I can't say I'm loving this change, but the admins asked us to give it a chance so I'm willing to do it. All arguments I'm using I've copied from their post before this change, showing this wasn't something random they did on a whim. If this fails and they don't act accordingly I'll be joining you on the other side with a pitchfork.

Calling them monkeys is too low? If anything it isn't low enough. it doesn't take a genius to see why this was a disaster.

It's a forum, and they're trying stuff. It may be misguided (and as I said I think the change hasn't been thought enough) but there's no need to insult anyone. You're the one going low insulting other people over a forum change.

It's good to experiment, but this is not a good change. It ruins the flow of checking this forum.

Before: check gaming news, then check OT news.

Now: check gaming news, check entertainment, check etcetera.

Not good.

Bad idea. Please make it go away.

Do not segregate the community further, there are not enough people for it on here. If you clumsily want to make poli talk go away say so.

There is a reason why I never clicked the hangouts, I have no desire to read about the same topic for months.

So here's a post from the Star Wars OT thread starter:

Oh I can finally talk about that I guess. The OPs of all the hangout threads were asked for their input on the new board layout and I said they could do whatever they wanted but I wanted gang tags.

Still no gang tags!

So it turns out "prominent members" were community thread starters. Hmm, would OPs of hangout threads all naturally want their threads to have more visibility? Would this section of the forum population represent the overall sentiments of the users here? I wonder....

It has jack all to do with OTs and everything to do with the way etc was. To claim otherwise is purely bullshit or the same exact thing would have happened to the gaming side.
Nah. They got feedback from prominent members. I think it's fair to assume that some of these members want more exposure for OTs they participate in. Maybe it is some other conspiracy. They aren't really being truly transparent with this change. Like, you would need some stone cold data to back this up. Maybe highlighting a community introduced X new members and X% more posts over a month and further following the highlight.

People who think OTs will somehow fall off the front page didn't bother to look at the last posting times between ETC and Hangouts before.

It wasn't some mystery that the thread list would have tons of OTs and it has little to do with it being the middle of the night .

It will be compounded by the fact they will probably gain a few new posters causing them to get bumped even more.

Which is where the "logic" of this change came from, only IMO it ignores that it lowers the overall usability of the forum in most people's opinion who are speaking up about it.

I spend 90% of my time on this forum reading not posting, and I do that by refreshing the old ETC forum and seeing what people are talking about. That list of 50 consistently changing threads could be refreshed all day and I'd find something to dive into and maybe post about here or there as well as checking my watched threads for my subscribed hangouts.

Now I have to do that across 2 separate forums and wade through constantly bumped OTs I really am unlikely to have any interest in. Is there a chance I'll find a new OT or 2? Maybe? I dunno I occasionally browsed that list and haven't joined a new OT in a long ass time. If I start watching a new show or something I could always go looking for an OT manually anyways if I actually felt like participating. I have serious doubts these OTs being "more visible" is going to matter to me.

Especially since the afformentioned lowered usability might cause me to just outright use the forum less.

Ya'll could have just moved the less active OTs to the main forum while leaving everything else the same and avoided all this silliness

It's going to backfire when people get tired of seeing DB super ot #345 or My hero OT 1,098 and never want to go in them ever.

They've said that politics threads related to Entertainment will be in Entertainment. Thus it'll be very easy to confirm or deny some of the conspiracy theories here.

I don't like the change, but the crazy conspiracy theories are neither helping, nor particularly fair to moderation. They did this to try and gain visibility for Hangouts, because it was apparent to them that Hangouts were dying. I think they did this out of care for the groups that were the seed of the forum when it started. I think it was a bad call, but an understandable bad call. And it doesn't make them monsters or part of a conspiracy of alt-righters, it just makes them mistaken. So express what you need to express, but remember that they are real people, with real feelings, trying to do their best for a community that frankly wants so many different things that listening to anyone is going to generate agita.

Man, I hope they can workout that solution to have this look like how it was - this change is terrible.

It's weird, this new setup seems like it would be the 1st version and the old way would be the logical update to the 2nd version - instead they've done it backwards.

Please, give us be option to have the old system ASAP (it was far more logical & organised).

The perfect solution is to keep this arrangement for a week to let OTs gain new members, and then reverse it back!
