I really don't care or no about any kind of mass outrage or fake outrage or whatever stupid nonsense people are fighting about, but I did think a couple of the jokes in the trailer were kinda off because of the attempt at comedically using language that people normally use when trying to defend/explain rights of marginalised groups in the context of a corporation (ie, liars) defending demons (ie, evil things) for their own gain.
This is the basis of the joke: the comedy of it lies in satirizing real world progressive language, and that means you're laughing at the expense of people who are already excluded and brutalised in the real world. It also puts the language in the mouth of a clearly dishonest corporation trying to convince humanity that demons are good for society, and the assumption or suspicion that people who speak out about prejudice aren't doing it because it's right, but because they want something for it - whether it be a pat on the back, or money.
I don't know why your mind would go there for a joke unless you thought that progressive concerns were on some level ridiculous and dishonest. It isn't like this shit is solved, it's an ongoing crisis worldwide and there's no end in sight.
So for me, it wasn't funny and makes just a little less excited for the game because I know this kind of thing comes from somewhere and it's not a cool place - and I don't mean 'not cool man' as in, you stepped over the line, I mean not cool as in lame. It's a lame kind of joke to make. Indicative of a closed brain. Just a bit of a bad smell in the air about it.
I think what happens sometimes is somebody states a calm complaint, then someone gets pissed off at the premise of the complaint, then the original complainant gets pissed off that someone is pissed off and all of a sudden you've got a fever pitch which makes everyone just want to cover their ears when really the underlying point is more or less valid but now everyone's pissed off. It's stupid.
