Much like the taxi driver controversy, such impressions always seem a bit premature to me - but I get that if you have a website you have to keep it going somehow.
This seems bit weird, especially considering the game is atleast one year maybe two away and we've seen 45 minutes of it. We don't quite yet know how Norwegian, Chinese, Nigerian, Ukranian, Icelandic, Turkish, Russian, Australian and Peruvian cultures and people are represented in the final game. Which the article does acknowledge. I of course hope that they all fit in and are respectfully, equally and accurately portrayed.
Gotta get those clicks.
I don't see how it's disrespectful at all. I mean someone in the trailer actually spoke Norwegian and I felt that was cool as a Norwegian. I mean like in blade runner would anyone say Asian cultures where disrespected in that?
Yeah I really don't mind this type of critique. It can be really insightful and I like to read stuff like this. I'm not in the "no politics!" camp. But part of the article seems really unreasonable. Witcher 3 did have a Sauna in it (mispronounced in the English dub, it's not "soona" you fuckers!), this if of course Finnish culture. In Skellige there also were books which mentioned some Finnish names. I also thought this was cool, since games or any non-Finnish media rarely gives any representation or even nods to Finnish culture and people. But Finnish culture was used just to give the world bit of flavor, as the game was mix of many cultures and mythologies from different European countries to Arabic. Mostly Polish and Slavic though. Lot of Nordic influence in Skellige, yet they speak with Irish accents. Finnish culture didn't play a big and meaningful part, it was used to dress up the world. They simply can't give every culture and mythology equal representation they drew from. Just like with Cyberpunk. Nor they could represent every European country even though they took inspiration from others. As the article writer seems to suggest that ignoring other Asian countries and cultures would be problematic when having Chinese and Japanese influence present in the game. We've also had someone in this thread suggest that latinx isn't represented dominantly enough. The more diversity they have, more problems will seem to arise. Will this turn into battle royale of cultures, fighting over who gets the biggest chunk of representation in the game? Until there's just white yankees left.
The article writer does bring up Blade Runner. And I'm sure there's been article or two written from this same angle about it too.
This guy's store is a trolley? Lol. But I really want to know what's on that tape haha.
Pee pee tape! Also:
