Should be able to get close at the very least if it doesnt hit it. Game sold 7.6 million copies its first year. Its definitely well over 8 million now

The fight will be between GOW and RDR. It'll be absolutely amazing if GOW pulls it of. Really hope it happens.
Account sharing he meant the same digital copy being shared between two accounts that is what the actual PS Store allow... you buy in one account and share between two accounts.
So the same copy sold can be shared by 2 accounts that got the Platinum... it is probably a tiny % of users that does that but it is not incomum between trophy hunters.
That said used market and physical lending (like that famous E3 video) can have more than one account having the Platinum with one single retail copy of the game but that is even lower amount than shared accounts.
At the end it is not worth to use these in the math because it is probably not even 5% of total accounts/players.
That is the reason 9 millions players didn't means 9 million copies sold but a bit less than that like GTS that crossed 6 million players but the sales are probably around 5.5 million copies.
Account sharing is digital but yeap it is the same way than physical sharing but limited to 2 accounts only... it is more common than physical sharing but a small number no matter what.
It is a bit more common between trophy hunter friends... so each new release is one of the them to buy the game with both Platinum it.
Ohhhh one advantage of account sharing is that you can play the same copy of the game simultaneous even in multiplayer... physical you can only play one at time.

Managed to Platinum it just recently. Loved it. Hopefully, I'll have time later for New Game plus just to play it for the story.
And fully deserving of all the praise! A second playthrough will happen at some point in the future.
I am sure we will get an update when it hits 10 Million sales.
Tons of people in my country are sharing accounts by buying the game on 1 account and giving it to 3-4-5 friends. Plus account selling exists.
All this because the game's price is 1/5 of average salary.
Rentals are not a big thing any more.
It will hit 10 million by the end of this year. That's nothing short of amazing. It will probably double the lifetime sales on any previous GOW in less than 9 months. A single player only exclusive game.

Still haven't gotten the platinum. Accidentally lost my save where I was just 2 chests and 3 crows away from the platinum.
The only other save I got was from when you first enter the lake of nine.. I haven't played any since then. Might try and get back to it after Spider-man and Kiwami.
