I've said it in last months thread but if you're into Tactics/Advance Wars games, y'all don't sleep on Into The Breach. It might very well be the best game I've played this year.

And as always, thanks for these threads tolkir

Any site that tells you when a game in your wishlist is on sale in the eShop? Im mostly waiting for Blaster Master Zero which I remember always being on sale when I didn't have a switch but now I never see it .

Ah right, this month marks the beginning of the online service.

Meanwhile, still waiting on Picross e9 & those Sega Ages games.

Dust is so good (outside of the furry art style)! Probably won't bite on it again right away, but down the line when it's on sale fer sure. One of my favorite Metroidvanias ever.

I started it on Steam a few years ago and never finished it. I remember the combat being a lot of fun but it just didn't hold my attention. I actually do have my eye on it - if it goes on sale for the right price I might double dip - the portability and playability on bus rides might be perfect for it.

I second this. I have little free time to play, so I rarely finish the metroidvanias I start, but Dust kept me hooked until the end. I like everything about the game, but above all, the combat felt very fun to me.

NEW THREAD.

This month manages to be more packed than August. Undertale is my only lock, although everyone knows the feeling of "accidentally" buying lots of eShop games.

Guys, please sell me (or don't) on Undertale.

I'm a big, biiiiig Earthbound fan. I freaking love that game. That said, when I play something special like Earthbound, I don't want "more Earthbound". Part of the reason the game felt special to me is how different it was from other games I had played before.

So, everybody seems to love Undertale, but I look at it and all I see is Earthbound. Is it different enough for me to care or will I keep thinking of Earthbound while playing it?

Struggling to keep up.

Finished Octopath, still on Hollow Knight. Very interested by Okami, The Messenger and into the Breach. Might import Okami and buy one of the two others this week-end.

Undertale, VC4, DBFZ, the Torna Expansion and FIFA are on my radar for this month...

Yeah I am screwed lol.

Thank you for the hard work on these threads, tolkir!

Hot damn, all the big Otome titles coming to Switch in Japan this month (Hakuoki, Norn9, Code:Realize...). Idea Factory shifting their business over!
Will Broccoli jump ship soon too? Their last title was a Vita exclusive still, just recently.

Also, can someone please finally bring over Nil Admirari no Tenbin pleeeassseee.

I only played the first hour of Undertale, but it felt darker and less conventional, also the combat had unique mini games. It didn't feel like it was trying to be an Earthbound game.

Undertale takes some visual and thematic cues from Earthbound, but mechanically and structurally it's very much its own thing. It has a fantastic soundtrack, and the combat minigames keep things fresh. Beyond that you should probably go in fairly blind.

No news about the original Valkyria Chronicles for the west. Looks like only Japan will get it for the moment.

With all the recent announcements, I think the only games missing on my side would now be the Trails in the Sky / Trails of Cold Steel series.
Gimme that and I can play with my Switch for the 2 years to come without anything new :D

Mostly looking forward to Marble It Up!

September is looking very good but I have played most of these releases already. I didn't much care for Undertale but I loved Hyper Light Drifter. So I'd recommend that!

Damn, looking at august you see how packed it was and with many good games nonetheless. September seems to be a good month as well.

So, apart from the graphics and general weirdness, the game is it's own thing compared to Earthbound... Hmmm, it looks like I should give it a try. Thanks for your comments!

And yeah, going in blind, this is why I get this Earthbound-vibe from the game: I've seen the graphics and little else because I want to be surprised.

A few posts ago, I said I have little free time for games. Well, I recently beat Trails in the Sky FC. You know how big that game is, right? And it only took me three years to finish it ^_^

I loved FC so much and I'm eager to play SC, but I don't feel like playing Trails for three years again. It would be a dream to play SC on Switch, I'm sure I could beat it way faster due to the portability.

I don't think the Earthbound comparisons are all too accurate personally. All I will tell you is that, if Earthbound was a game that had a profound effect on you like it did on me, Undertale will have you feeling similar things and then some by the time the ride is over.

Undertale got all of its publicity for a reason. It truly is a modern classic, and is an experience that will stay with you for a long, long time.

... and you just sold me on it ^_^ Thanks!

Thanks for the Dust:AET mention in the OP! Forgive a bit of self-promotion, but as it's time sensitive I thought I might mention that the physical Switch version started pre-orders today, and will go on for two weeks: https://limitedrungames.com/product...-elysian-tail-preorder?variant=12558227701813

Man, Dust is really really good, congratulations. I had a blast when I played it on the X360, so thanks for that.

It's a retro month for me, just waiting for release dates for the SEGA AGES games and the NES games launching with the paid online service.

And just one more month until Mega Man 11! (Hopefully we get that demo to help ease the wait.)

Looking forward to my physical copy of Undertale this month.

...Wait a minute, is "Marble It Up!" just an expanded version of "Marble Blast Ultra" on the PC and XBLA? Because if so sign me the fuck up for that!

September is poppin esp adding in all the late August releases.

I just might have to cop DBZF even tho I want that on a decent sale. Hyper Light Drifter, TowerFall, Ninjin, keeping Dust on the short list

Would there be anything missing from the Switch version of Undertale compared to the PC version?

I own the PC version of the game but never played it and I'm thinking of picking it up in the Switch since I'll likely finish it there. The thing is, I remember hearing about there being something (a mechanic or something like that, I don't remember) in the game that wouldn't translate well for the console versions of the game. Is that true? A simple yes or no would suffice.

Wanted to type a bit about Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle, so I guess it's good that I procrastinated enough for the new thread to pop up.

In the last thread I mentioned I was just hoping for a janky Grimrock, but it's actually a pretty solid Grimrock clone (outside of some jank here and there in the translation). Control is very similar to Grimrock, right down to the tendency to "dance" around your opponents to avoid attacks (when you have the space to do so). The controls work well on the joycons (each face button is a skill you can map per character, and you shift between them with L and R).

Each class has a skill tree as well as some passives, and the race selection is interesting (Human, Oni, Tengu, and Nekomata). A bit more than four classes would have been nice (they're basically tank, damage dealer, ranged damage/mage, and healer/mage), if only for subsequent playthroughs. But hey, I can do an all cat-man party next time.
The two party system is interesting, mostly used for puzzle solving, but you can also split and have one party act as a decoy for the enemy while the other group goes around for a back attack (in fact, the tutorial will have you do just that). The game goes split-screen when you separate the party, which is a little disorienting, but you get used to it.

The art is where the game shines, though, with a lot of the enemies being really cool and creepy looking. I know that's what attracted some of us to the game in the first place. The art used for story and loading screens is also amazing, done in something like the ukiyo-e style of painting. Some of this stuff is really cool, like this one (strongly considering an avatar of this cat's expression):
Also the first boss is really cool, and is quite challenging until you figure out how to move around his attacks (at which point he becomes trivial, but that's fine for the first boss).
So yeah, enjoying it so far. Just past the first boss and into the next section of the dungeon. I don't know how long it is (and it's $14, which isn't super cheap) but at this point it seems like a viable option for people who want Grimrock or Eye of the Beholder on the Switch, with a visual style that's pretty unique. Worth keeping an eye on if you love the genre.

Damn, tolkir , your radar is always on point. Very happy to see 'Marble It Up!' listed as one of the featured releases of the month.

While by looking at the screenshots it can seem like other cheap indie game with asset flips and you know, marbles, like the hundred of cheap titles released with rolling marbles each year in Steam...

This game is created by part of the team that made the legendary 'Marble Blast Ultra' in Xbox 360, and it seems the best game with rolling marbles to grace a Nintendo console since 'Kororinpa' for Wii, that was to Wii the same thing that 'Etrian Odissey' to Nintendo DS: the best game in its entire catalogue.

Congratulations for other amazing thread with a crystal-clear structure. Nintendo should hire you to design the next eShop layout :)
