I love this game, it has great atmosphere and characters. It's regularly on sale for $5 too.

Otherwise played more Hollow Knight and as much as I'm enjoying it, I'm at the point where I'm in the Mushroom caverns and found some bouncy Mushrooms that aren't giving me enough of a hop to jump onto a higher platform. Am I suppose to get a new upgrade to bounce higher? Get a mid air jump? What am I suppose to do?
I just caught up to the thread from yesterday, and I don't think anyone answered you yet, so here goes: have you tried slashing down on the mushrooms while landing yet?

I'm between The Messenger and Dead Cells. Anyone want to help me out? Playing mostly in handheld mode. PC is not an option (mostly because I don't want to play it on my PC, ha).

Hey, tolkir . Taking a look to the listed eShop releases I see 'Arcade Archives: Argus' listed as a TOSE/Hamster release.

What's the source for including TOSE as the creator of the game?

'Argus' was a game originally created by NMK and distributed by Jaleco. Some of the people working in Tehkan funded NMK, so it's possible that part of the team working in 'Star Force' also created 'Argus', giving the similar approach between the two games.

We don't know too much about 'Star Force', only through some obscure interviews that Kazutoshi Ueda was in the development team (he will later create 'Bomb Jack' or the first entries in the 'Shin Megami Tensei' series). But we don't have more clues about the rest of the team.

By looking at the eShop page, the copyright of the game is listed to City Connection, who is the Japanese company currently owning the publishing rights of the Jaleco catalogue.

To make things more complicated, Hamster owns the publishing rights of the entire NMK catalogue.

So I think that you took the NES release of the game, a port created by TOSE.

But the correct listing should be Jaleco/NMK. I think that TOSE wasn't involved in the original arcade version. NMK wasn't a company relying in outsourcing for creating their games. Indeed, they were together with Toaplan, the most important company designing shmups in the classic Japanese period :)

They're completely different kinds of games. Dead Cells is rogue-like, Messenger isn't. I've put 30hrs into dead cells, but at this point I'm sick and tired of rogues so I would recommend messenger (even if I haven't played it).

The last rogue-like I played was Wizard of Legend and the performance was sub-par on Switch (lots of slowdown and stuttering). It was serviceable, but it was annoying. On top of that, the way progression worked was boring. I imagine Dead Cells does it better. But while the two games are completely different (Dead Cells and Messenger), both look to be solid games. If Messenger is something that has a shorter lifespan, I may go with that simply because I know I can sink a lot of hours into something like Dead Cells.

Can I assume performance for both games on Switch is solid?

You're back..!

I was wondering about this release too. I read it's a scroll anywhere type of shooter. Sounds intriguing. Any experience with it?

You're back..!

I was wondering about this release too. I read it's a scroll anywhere type of shooter. Sounds intriguing. Any experience with it?

I played 'Argus' this year while I was investigating about caravan shooters inspired by the layout of 'Star Force'.

I see a positive in 'Argus': it has one of the most complex layouts in any caravan game. Indeed, it's a game whose only purpose is to learn the small tricks for scoring and the bonuses in each scenario. If in caravan games, instead of dodging ships and bullets, the ships will try to avoid you, they are not games about surviving but about trying to learn complex patterns for destroying things... 'Argus' took this premise to a whole new level.

And I see a negative: it's not as charismatic as 'Star Force' or 'Terra Cresta'. It feels much more cerebral, not as intense playing in a casual way and the sound design is not as satisfactory.

All of that said, given the complexity of the layout for scoring, it's a game that I want to learn how to play well in the future. To see if finally clicks on me.

Talking about amazing shmups for scoring, hidden in the 'Namco Museum' for Switch you have one of the greatest classics in the genre, 'Galaga 88'. It was the equivalent of 'Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+' to the 'Galaga' franchise, and together with 'Super Crossfighter' and the first 'Space Invaders Extreme' in Nintendo DS, one my favorite fixed shmup based in memorizing enemy patterns.

My main problem with 'Galaga 88' is that I largely prefer the PC-Engine port created by Hudson. I prefer how it sounds, how it looks and it's much less unforgiving in its difficulty curve.

Is there any point in buying Doom if I can play it maxed out with 1080p60fps on my PC? And don't say gyroscope, cause Steam supports the Pro controller with gyroscope and Doom is not a game I will play undocked.

So, I just noticed that right now Severed is a My Nintendo reward that one can get for 150 gold points. I neither have a NNID nor do I have a My Nintendo account, but I made a purchase worth 40 € about 3 weeks ago. If I register now, will I retroactively get gold points for that purchase?

EDIT: Nevermind, just found the answer. No retroactive gold points. Too bad...

I got Oxenfree when it was on sale for £3.99 but I've criminally neglected it. Only played something like half an hour. Really need to dive back in when I'm done with Hollow Knight.

I saw it on GameFAQs. The webpage of the Switch version is listed as developed by TOSE, so the user who created the file, fucked up copying the info of the NES Version (and I copying its one). The Arcade version of the game has the info correctly.

Not to be rude, but if you can play the PC version with all the bells and whistles (and I presume have no issue doing so) why would you even consider the Switch version of Doom, especially if you don't care about its best feature next to its portability?

wth?! Is this game straight up a parody to Back To The Future?

I'm about to purchase the game, it's 'Crossy Road' meets 'Paper Boy' meets 'OlliOlli' meets 'Space Invaders', 'Pac-Man' and whatnot.

The effusive review of NintendoLife has put the game on my radar.

And by looking at this video of the game, it's a serious contender to my game of the month.

All of that said, 'Crossy Road' and 'Pac-Man 256' are two of my favorite games this generation. And this is 'Crossy Roads' on steroids and taking the things to the next level regarding the creativity in the design of situations and references.

Captured some handheld/undocked gameplay of Hyper Light Drifter for those wondering how it'll perform during handheld play sessions:

It's completely pointless in that case.

I bought Doom in the current eShop sale. With some Nintendo coins I had, I could grab it very cheaply. I really wanted to test the novelty of playing an "AAA" FPS on the Switch in portable mode, I'd never contemplate ever putting this on a bigger screen. I've had Doom on PC since release and it plays many times better on PC; if the PC version is a blu-ray disc, the Switch version is a worn VHS tape, it's extremely blurry. I mean, it's Doom with most of the bells and whistles as far as effects work goes, but it can not be overstated how blurry/lowres the game is. The UI also suffers from tiny texts. I'll enjoy whipping out this Switch version to rip and tear a bit when I'm away in the summer cabin or otherwise out where portable gaming shines, but I will not be buying any further games on the Switch as compromised as this. For me it was a test and it simply doesn't get a pass.

What I would like, is seeing an original, well budgeted FPS tailored specifically to the Switch, runnning native (or close) resolution in portable mode. Something like Doom is simply too compromised for my taste.

Mini Metro is a really fun puzzle game! Works very well with control sticks as well.

Well worth the asking price IMO.

The blurriness can be seriously improved by changing the settings, I no longer recall how though since it's been a while since I played the game. I do recall the info as to how to do it was repeatedly provided in an Era thread for the game at the time.

There aren't that many settings to change so I tried disabling motion blur and chromatic aberration before playing a bit today and it actually does take the top off the overall image blurriness. It's still blurry, but now it's better. Thanks.

Switch needs its own "Killzone: Mercenary". I think the closest we're gonna get to that will be Metroid Prime 4 since I can't see any third-parties stepping up to the plate with a fully-optimized exclusive FPS. :/

Ok, so how the hell does one play online with a friend in Human Fall Flat?! I see no friend option, and one either of us hosts a public game, the other can't see it. What am I missing?
