Trailer:

Battle System:

More info (more at link): https://gematsu.com/2018/08/wild-ar...nches-soon-in-japan-first-trailer-and-details

Gematsu said:
■ Story

Why did you betray everyone? Rudy…

The ruined planet, Filgaia.

Ashley, Virginia, Jude, Dean, and Clarissa—adventurers known as "Migrant Birds"—were in trouble due to Mother, the leader of the Metal Demons.

Are they not able to stop mother's plan? Will they have to accept their fate of despair?

Mother's crazy laughter echoes.

Countermeasures against the worst possible situation should have been devised, and yet such a situation is occurring…

"Why did you betray everyone? Rudy…"

Fates will cross, and feelings will connect—-.
■ Story Progression

Players will read the scenario while clearing battle quests to progress through the game. The scenario consists of three elements. The "Main Story" follows the journey of Rudy and company. "Sub-Quests" depict the episodes of each character not told in the Main Story. And "Events" include time-limited episodes and time-unlocked quests.
■ Battle System

Enjoy exhilarating battles with simple controls. Swipe to move, tap to attack, and flick to dodge. If you dodge perfectly, you will become invicible for a fixed time. By long pressing the screen, you can use a charge attack, and by matching the timing of an enemy's attack, you can use a charge counter.

By using the power of your pre-set "ARM," or "Awakening of Resonant Memories," you can unleash special techniques at any time. ARMs in this game are card-shaped devices that embody the memories of Filgaia through a special piece of metal called the "Dragon Fossil." Those memories possess extremely strong power. Various ARMs are being prepared, including ARMs tied to famous scenes and characters from the series.

You can take up to three characters into battle, and can change between them by tapping the character's icon during combat. By landing standard attacks, your gauge in the lower-right of the screen will increase. When it fills up, you can activate a character-unique Force Ability with a special effect to gain the upper hand.
Characters

Rudy Roughknight (voiced by Kenichi Suzumura) from Wild Arms

Ashley Winchester (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) from Wild Arms 2

Virginia Maxwell (voiced by Mikako Komatsu) from Wild Arms 3

Jude Maverick (voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi) from Wild Arms 4

Clarissa Arwin (voiced by Rie Takahashi) from Wild Arms XF

Dean Stark (voiced by Hiro Shimono) from Wild Arms 5

Brittany Shrewsbury (voiced by Nao Touyama) from Wild Arms: Million Memories

A cheerful girl born and raised in Blue Caravan. She is training with enthusiasm to become an ARM master under her grandfather Clarence, and inherited his skills and passion. She is honest, fearless, and can get along with anyone, but tends to take action without thinking of the consequences. Her partner Phiel often admonishes her for it.

Oh wow a new wild arms really!?...

Oh mobile. I kind of knew before I even clicked the thread. Too bad, hope those that don't mind enjoy and it isn't a gacha hell that only is available for a year or so

I just realized I didn't include mobile in the title, so a mod should feel free to fit that in if you feel people missed the previous threads.

Arc The Lad R is doing pretty well.

The most disappointing thing about mobile rpg is that they focus way to much on combat, while whenever I think of wild arms, it's usually the dungeon with your character using tools to solve puzzles etc. I guess that kind of gameplay didn't really fit mobile games that need to be grindable as you keep playing the combat over and over again.

Oh well, the combat look nice I guess

Looks quite polished, surprisingly. Animation seems nice.

I have no qualms with focus on combat in mobile RPGs, that's actually a good thing. My problem is that most combat ends in a flash as they're too easy, and I have to go through various loading screen again to move to the next stage and have more combat, not including upgrading my party and whatnot. There are too many loadings, most mobile devs still don't get it and it's getting on my nerves. I know that encounters will be harder and take longer to beat later in the game, but how am I suppose to reach endgame if I already get bored in the first few hours of the game.

Just watch the trailer. Make me want to play wild arms 5. That's the only one I didn't play. I'm glad wild arms xf heroine made it in. I really like that game.

I'm so salty over Sony banishing the games I'm actually interested in while pumping money into the cinematic feel simulators I don't care about.
I get it. I'm the minority. Dad of Uncharted sold super well everyone eles loves.
I'm still salty though.

Battle system seems fine but I don't trust anything made for phones anymore. Fully expect gacha mechanics and other F2P hooks with very little substance to the "story."

So I guess it's a sequel to the first game?

Kind of? Ashley from WA2 is the tall blue haired guy in the trailer. I'm assuming a handful of the others are from XF or what have you also

The madmen did it.

They finally managed to make me care and want to play a mobile game, even got Michiko Naruke back in.

Hopefully it runs on my phone, SMT ran like dog shit.

At least the gacha seems to be only for gear which is fine by me, instead of locking characters behind it. Even if the effect on progression is the same, I can actually play with my favorites. The mobile dissidia works great like that, too bad the game itself is boring

Didn't expect much being a mobile game but man it looks so damn good, ahhhh.
Hope Xseed/Marvelous USA will consider publishing this.

Action mechanics, rather than turn-based? Bleh, not very Wild Arms-ish in that case.

Disappointing is the word that comes to mind. Not necessarily because it's mobile (we already knew that), but that the only thing that they could come up with for the gameplay is seemingly copying shironeko project. Really isn't what I expected and wanted from the series.

I just hope they're smart enough to put a couple puzzle-like battles. Wild Arms XF also changed things by being a SRPG but they had a couple battles that were pretty much puzzles. A couple of which didn't even have actual enemies.

But at this point I'm expecting too much of a mobile game

I'm still going to play it so I'm hoping that it is a good game but I can't deny my disappointment, oh well. Visually it looks nice I think.

I actually love the look of this - they absolutely nailed that aspect, including the ingame models.

But that battle system :(

Still definitely playing it, since I love Wild Arms, but it's bizarre seeing them try to make some mid 2000s Ys combat work on mobile.

Did you get a sense of pride for posting like a idiot?
No pride, just disappointment. I genuinely thought this was something else and have been waiting for a new installment for more than a decade. This really sucks.

I had heard there was a mobile game but since mobile wasn't in the title I thought this was a proper console game.

I only played Wild Arms 3, seeing the heroine from that game makes me feel happy and nostalgic.

I might play it.

I adore the Wild Arms series.
I will try this game but it is not AT ALL what I want from this series. The character mix is a cool idea but action rpg, chibi-ish weird liking models, and the rigid structure of "story, battle scenes" reminds me of the Star Ocean mobile game.

These are fine for what they are but if this indicates these series are now relegated to mobile sorts-games that do not match up with their console counterparts much, then I am sad lol.

Too bad RPGs are my favorite genre. I want console games to continue for these even if they have to be lower budget than previously. Really mixed emotions overall with this

Just as a reminder-
ForwardWorks was set-up as a division of SIE that's focused solely on mobile market in Japan/Asia. I believe they were asked about it during the creation of the company, and there are no intention to go global anytime soon. Heck, FW games haven't even expanded to Asia. It's all Japan-only at the moment.

At this point of time, in spite of FW being part of PlayStation and making games with SIE IP, there are limited connection to the broader PlayStation brand identity.

Here's an old thread about their games- https://www.resetera.com/threads/sonys-forwardworks-their-progress-since-december-7th-2016.7328/

It must suck to be so disappointed that you have to shitpost about the mobile platform.
Is that really a shit post?

I apologize then. I genuinely didn't intend it that way. :( I hate when people do that so I feel like an idiot for engaging in it as well. That's fine, I deserve to be called out for it. It was just a stupid reaction to disappointing news.

If I think about it, my reaction is more that it's a mobile game which has a high likelihood of remaining in inaccessible regions while exhibiting the typical flaws of mobile RPGs. My experience with mobile phone RPGs suggests that I shouldn't be excited - they are typically released as free to play products, when designed for a phone from the ground up, and focus heavily on battle mechanics with pay to win elements included. These types of games also typically receive a lower budget and lack the care you'd hope to see in a full-blown console RPG.

Basically, it's likely to be a product that won't deliver what I'd like to see in a Wild Arms game.

The state of mobile gaming in general is also disappointing due to the focus on free to play. Few games are available to purchase out right and this has a significant impact on game design.

The thread title basically got my hopes up for a moment and I reacted by posting a stupid quip rather than extrapolating my disappointment. So, you're right, it's a dumb response and it does no good.

Hopefully this will reach a certain ground and potentially make way for a proper Wild Arms game down the line. That's the best that could come out of it for me personally. If it does, great. If not, no big deal - I didn't expect it anyways.

I'm waiting for more news, but so far this looks really disappointing coming from someone who likes mobile gacha game.
The dungeon looks very bland and boring and the battle system also doesn't look exciting.
I hope they will put some puzzle in event/story dungeon because imo those are the trademark of Wild Arms series.
Hopefully there is more to the battle system too.

This post sums pretty well why every thread about mobile versions of beloved franchises get so many dismissive replies.

It's on the development and publishing companies to change this perception of mobile games, not on us. Make good games with less exploitative monetization systems and release them worldwide, and then people won't be so negative. Then again they make truckloads of money on the current system, so that's not happening.

That's precisely right. I did use to enjoy some mobile games but the monetization schemes are a huge turn-off. They almost always influence the game experience in a negative way.

I don't know if it falls under the description of "shitpost" or not, but I think it is a post that's very easy to understand, and you're not the only one who made such a comment. (because what you just described is absolutely correct)
Whatever it is, I think Lusamine's comment is a complete overreaction ("posting like an idiot"? come on), and I do wonder why it was targeted at you while you weren't the only one (or even the first) to make such a comment in this thread.

So imagine if threads about Switch games were constantly filled with posts like "The Switch? NOPEIMOUT.GIF". Do you think that would be allowed, smiled upon, or productive?

Exactly. It was a dumb post! Mobile gaming practices bring out the worst in me, can't deny it!
