the NightEra theme uses greys instead of blacks when true black actually saves a notable amount of power on OLED screens without being a detriment to LCD screens. I've seen this mentioned many times in the update and feedback threads with no response.

So I'm wondering if there's a reason I don't know of? Surely using black since it benefits a large population of smartphones is doable?

Surely you aren't saying black can't be used just as well aesthetically? And the theme doesn't need to be all black, but converting much of the negative space to true black has a benefit that should be taken advantage of.
Pure black wont look as good for the background on regular screens imo

If youre talking about the color behind the text then that would be really straining on the eye

No I'm saying they picked these colours because this is their design.

This is one of the reasons. Pure, true black does not function as well on most LCD screens as it does on OLED devices.

Another reason is that simply the number of users that visit the site on a OLED mobile device is very minuscule. The numbers don't support tailoring a very popular theme style to a handful of users. We might look to have a separate OLED style theme in the future, but currently, we aren't looking to tailor a Dark theme strictly for OLED devices at this time.
