Also, the answer to "what has Eminem done in the last ten years?" might have changed dramatically if the rest of this album holds up to the first third half..

On the topic of best storytellers in hip hop, this is still my favourite song when it comes to storytelling.

So much on my mind that it can't recline
Blasting holes in the night til she bled sunshine
Breathe in, inhale vapors from bright stars that shine
Breathe out, weed smoke retrace the skyline
Heard the bass ride out like an ancient mating call
I can't take it y'all, I can feel the city breathing
Chest heaving, against the flesh of the evening
Sigh before we die like the last train leaving

Em is angry on this album, this has to be the fastest he's ever rapped over the course of an album. The reaction to Revival really lit a fire under him.

First reaction would be this is his best album since The Eminem Show, which would be one of my favourites of his. It has an energy that not many rap albums have nevermind recent Eminem albums.

Even Em himself is a bit breathless at the end of some of the tracks. Raw is such an overused word for big production music but this definitively feels closer to the bone.

Obviously need more listens to really get to grips with it but this is a good album..

That's not how technical rapping is rated on though.

Like really if anything my impression is that he needs to slow down instead of ramping it up.

I think it really suits songs like The Ringer and Greatest that are lashing out. Kamizaze is like a down tempo Ringer if that's more your thing. Stepping Stone is more mellow, same with the twin Jessie Reyez features.

Also I didn't think the Venom song sucked, but I do love Eminem and Spider-Man so that is the intersection of so many biases for me..

I hope you're making a Freddie Mercury reference and not actually saying Eminem is more desperate than Nicki fecking Minaj..
I said what I said. Eminem is extremely desperate - what other explanation is there for collaborating with Venom? At least Queen had a few OK hooks.

Pretty soon we're going to run out of white teens that only listen to Eminem and no other rap. He's really in trouble then.

Also that Tyler the creator diss sure is something.

Tyler probably don't mind it given his history but it really highlights how much Tyler has outpaced Em.

The amount of hate Em gets is so strange. No matter what kind of music he makes the same people are always ready to hate. I understand people like what they like but rap fans are still just waiting for rappers to make bad songs for them to shit all over. I don't see it with other genres to this extent

Normally I would agree, but Em is such an easy target with his punchlines that are corny at best and edgelord slurs at worst. He's not even provocative at this point, just an old man yelling at clouds.

Oh and the Tyler the creator line reminds me why I hated him so much growing up.

Every now and then I am reminded of the existence of Star Citizen and it's hilarious every time.
(I backed Star Citizen so I can criticize it all I want, don't @ me!)

I played a bunch of The Messenger last night and I think it's basically the Shovel Knight of this year. It looks a lot like the games it's trying to emulate, and plays super well, but it's not that hard. I haven't gotten to the part where the game....does it a thing. But as I play I'm noticing some things here and there that are suspect.
