I'm just upset about the Jiren shade.

He gave us episodes 109/110 and this fantastic moment.

He definitely has some great moments (the one you've mentioned, him doing the cool Akuma/back thing all the time, him basically declaring himself the winner by starting to meditate in the middle of the battlefield etc.), but I think my biggest issue with him might be that he doesn't really have an interesting personality (even compared to his own allies) and his character design looks kinda meh

If Broly doesn't die and ends up part of new show then this will be canon next

I bet if Broly sticks around his buff form goes away.

I think his personality gets interesting in the end once you find out that he's a sociopath. As for the design I personally liked his design from the beginning, but I can understand why plenty of people don't.

Bulma, Jaco and some others weren't revealed for Resurrection F until 1-2 months until release. The same will probably be true for the new film with other characters.

I still don't think him being a sociopath is particularly interesting considering a lot of established characters arguably have sociopathic tendencies (imo). His main selling point was being strong, having trust issues and.. that's about it?

One thing that I have to admit: they've managed to make Jiren feel very menacing from the very beginning and his mysterious appearance made me curious about him (even if in my opinion it didn't quite pay off).

As for his design: he looked cooler close to the end of the tournament and they did a great job with his poses and general fighting style, but other than that I had something else in mind despite liking simple designs (shoutouts to Jaco)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I totally expect other fighters to show up when Broly goes full power so that they can have scenes of him beating everyone down like in the original movie.
And depending on the plot it could make total sense too, maybe the others simply don't know about what's going on and once the fight starts they pay attention to the powers fighting while going about with whatever they are doing, but think that for the time being Goku and Vegeta probably got it and the fight is taking place somewhere without bystanders , but then when he goes full power they realize that this is something that can't be ignored.

Just for continuity I hope gohan and roshi fight. The ToP seemd to inspire them the most

Tien can sit this one out. and the rest of the series forever

Huh. I think never seen this scene. I think I saw the edited version of the fights. I'm going to rewatch the garlic jr arc this weekend.

Wait, I'm confused about the concept of fusion. When did Toriyama create Vegito and when did Movie 12 decided on the concept of fusion? I'm lost here.
Toriyama first introduced Vegito in chapter 503 of Dragon Ball, which was first published on January 24th, 1995. Dragon Ball Z Fusion Reborn premiered on March 4th, 1995. As someone stated, Toriyama may well have known in advance that Toei was going with the Fusion dance in their movie, but he did introduce Fusion as a concept in chapter 469 and already people were asking "what if Goku and Vegeta did the dance?" and that was quite a bit before the movie came out. So Toei putting Gogeta in a movie was basically them banking on the fact people wanted to see that 'what if' in action. Toriyama then seemed to state in the manga that Potara was better than Fusion, further hyping Vegito.

Don't know if this is what you were looking for but it's my understanding of it all.

Oh I see, for some reason I thought the DBZ manga was already finished by 1995, which is why I was very confused. So Toriyama had to go for an alternate way of having Goku and Vegeta fuse, which have us Potara and Vegito. In a way it's thanks to Gogeta that we have Vegito lol, I'm happy.

It's kind of interesting to think about the specifics though. Did he avoid having Goku and Vegeta use the dance because they wanted to keep Gogeta a fresh concept for the movie, or because he actually just wanted to 'one up' it? If the former, who made that decision - Toei or him? I'm not entirely convinced he had to introduce Potara because they didn't know the dance as he's gotten away with far more unbelievable writing than them just getting it right first time.

He made up Potara because he had to make up some new shit to be different. Still using the same exact concept of fusion mind you but "different"

Also he made the potara way stronger because he needed an excuse for them not to dance

That's really the best part about him. Always looks very brutal.

Also nobody appreciates spinning like Jiren does.

That is a great GIF, lol

Just out of curiosity: why did the whole animation style change later on during the ToP? I really like that look with the thick outlines and somewhat 'glowing' colors

Show got a new series director around that time and he made an effort to increase the quality during the ToP. They used new post-processing techniques that they used in Tiger Mask W to give the show a more old school look.

I see. I think they've done a great job with that. Thanks for the explanation!

Before and after said post-processing:

The top image isn't totally devoid of post-processing though, it has a light source applied to it, but this is a perfect example of the line filter as well as how the colors were altered in post-processing.

A similar approach to post-processing is being done on the Broly movie, as it is the same director.
