It's just that particular scene. The most recent gameplay videos show the rooftop of a construction site with more puddles than the older screenshot.

I really hoped that they'd reveal the CE statue by now. I have a $50CA preorder of the standard edition, and I'd be all kinds of mad if I paid an extra $150 for the CE only to find out that I didn't like the statue.

Yep same here lol. Like I just want to know if the quality is good and not shitty like a lot of the statues for CE.

I believe the statue is spoilery, which is why it comes concealed and says when you can open it to avoid this...

Whole thing is weird.

Being an exclusive game really brought out the worst in people, it's pretty embarassing.

Just thought I'd pop in and say how hyped I am! I'd probably be on the edge of my seat if I didn't have Donut County and Guacamelee 2 to keep me occupied until launch. I saw the nonsense about a 'downgrade" and just choose to ignore it. Spidey is back and nothing will stop my excitement!

I will say kudos to the team for adding more momentum and speed when swinging from a high dive. Leaked footage looks way better in that regard compared to what we saw from the e3 demos.

Man, next week needs to be here. I'm so pumped for this game. Each of these JJJ teasers have been so great. I just hope to see some of these character interactions that involve Peter instead of Spidey.

you know, I can recall watching Insomniac's post-PGW stream last year, during which Jacinda Chew mentioned how they were going to tone down the suit's specular highlights to make it look more cloth-like. "oh cool, that should make some folks happy," I thought.

It does when it's a suit that's cloth like the classic. Removing too much spec from the advanced sport material looking suit makes it look like it lost something. It would be like removing spec from the infinity war costume. Shouldn't be an across the board change but instead material based where it makes sense. *shrug*

that was a big request actually, and one we agreed with.

I'm just happy it looks like Spider-Man will finally have its own Arkham (I know Insomniac is probably tired of the comparison but still).

A big huge Triple A game that looks like it can stand toe to toe with big game franchises and possibly land on GOTY lists.

I've enjoyed past Spider-Man games but wouldn't really call any of them masterpieces. Hopefully this one sets the bar up high.

Agreed. Nice to have a living city rather than evacuated islands too. I just hope the story is good.

Do you know about any HDR calibration tools being in the game? Ratchet and Clank's implementation is fantastic, but I did note there not being any actual ways to mess with the peak brightness or anything!

I feel like we should focus less on complaining about, well, the people who complain, and more on praising the devs about how GLORIOUS this game looks. I'm aware I still have to play it to know for sure, but ever since I saw it for the first time @ E3 2016 I've been sure it would be one of my favorite videogames ever. Spidey is my favourite fictional character and I just can't wait to enjoy the experience that Insomniac has in store for us.

Just one week left!

Should we exit the hype train and make our way over to the hype puddle?
I'll see myself out, I'm sorry.

Im watching the recent Playstation Access video and the combat seems to have way more agency than I initially thought. It still looks group based ie Arkham and Assassins Creed, but it definitely looks like you can mix up your moves and come up with more creative combos than you ever could with the Arkham games. Its no DMC or Bayonetta but fun as hell nonetheless

Finished Hostile Takeover a few hours ago! The hype from this shill is rising ever higher!

Seriously, though, I really enjoyed the book. Great intro to Insomniac's Marvel Universe, loved learning about Peter and MJ's relationship, etc.

Few disappointments:

I was hoping the characters in the book (that we haven't seen in the trailers yet) would carry over into the game. None of them will.
  • Anika (original character, Peter's co-worker) got fridged. That was frustrating and definitely the thing I didn't like the most.
  • Blood Spider's been arrested, although I suppose that doesn't rule out him breaking out...
  • Echo left New York and went to... Michigan? Some place that starts with an M. Really hoped she'd stick around.
  • Peyton (original character, another co-worker) got fired. I wasn't particularly fond of him, but I'd liked to have seen him in the game.

That epilogue, though.

It's where the game starts! Really exciting to read that knowing it'll lead directly into the game's opening.

And yeah, Spiderman looks like the first game to finally legitimately evolve the freeflow combat design instead of copying Arkham's combat like AC, Shadow of Mordor, etc did. It looks like you have much more agency over your moves, able to control the arena and move around the fight much more freely, aren't constructed by the attack-counter-stun rock-paper-scissors pace of Arkham combat. The aerial combat and the versatile gadgets give you much more freedom. There's no counter button either

As much as I loved it in the Arkham games, I'm so glad they didn't give Spidey one. It would be uncharacteristic of him to be countering like that, while having the players manually dodge is perfectly in line with how Peter can't always dodge everything. He's just aware of the danger and has the ability to dodge incoming attacks. It's not a guaranteed thing.

Ye it was that one. Really good video showcasing a bunch of stuff in the game.

I'm glad that Amazon started taking pre-orders again so that I could pre-order Spider-Man and then cancel it due to the unacceptable puddle scandal. Shame!

Anyone got a direct link to the Reddit post with the spoiler-free web-swinging gameplay? Wanna watch it again but I don't want to look into the subreddit in case of spoilers.

Can I just say god bless the devs for not NUKING the FOV of the game to improve performance. Nothing against optimisation phases and other devs.

I mean God Of War (4) and Destiny 2 both have nausea inducing FOVs, to name a great and a quite shitty game.

But this? They just cranked it up respectably and kept it there. Dev if you're reading this you're doing the lord's work.

tbh

h

Also lol if they now decide to reduce FOV in the Day 1 path. I really hope better FOVs become more common next-gen
