How do you like your puddles?

  • The entire game should take place inside a huge puddle

  • As big as Insomniac's artists want them to be

  • As deep as my knowledge of game development

  • I prefer oceans tbh

  • Don't go chasing Waterfalls

Exactly the same "scandal" happened with inFamous: Second Son because they changed the position of the sun in the initial scene.

Suffice to say, there was absolutely no downgrade, and in other scenes changes in sun position caused the opposite effect. The game proved to be a visual masterpiece for its time.

Whoever thinks this is a "downgrade" knows nothing of how lighting works.

Sometimes I feel proud of being part of gaming community when we make publishers reverse shitty practices like the ones in SWBFII.

This is opposite of that, couldn't be more ashamed.

But The shadow on the wall would indicate it's the same ToD though? That's how shadows work... They apparently just changed the lighting for better or for worse.

Guess I'll have to watch the video again but weren't there other light sources in that building too? You can clearly see it's a different time of day

God damn, some people tryna talk about shit they know nothing about.
Go on? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zspCF2hUuvQ

There's clear shadow andartifact clipping on the shoulder blade, something not present in the 2017 pic. The shoulders and muscles are more rounded and less jagged, likely had tessalation or a simply higher polgygon count character model

The Internet
I can't help but wonder if this nonsense is partly hardware developers fault by always pushing hotshot graphics and consumers eating it up. When you launch upgraded versions of consoles that are basically only for graphical power, people are gonna spend more and more time taking apart trivial screenshots because of how much focus is on making melt-your-brain graphics.

The game looks damn good regardless but even if this was a "downgrade" it's going to be hardly noticeable in game. This is "I don't know what to do with myself but I have the internet" levels of inane.

Is "Spider-Man avatar" the new "anime avatar"?

I mean.. do you listen to fox news to get legitimate debates on Republicans and Democrats? People have preferences and have biased views. I think Kings field is better than dark souls and I can argue "facts" on why all day. Doesn't mean I'm right. If this were digital foundry claiming one way or the other I'd be more inclined to listen.

Maybe we need more of what CD Projekt Red are doing at the moment, allowing us to view the process and changes that occur during development.
We don't know yet how that will pan out before release of Cyberpunk.

I think they have made it crystal clear in their video that it's a work in progress, but that doesn't mean they are exempt from a shitstorm in the future. That seems much too optimistic.

Basically where I'm at on this:

- Obviously the game is going to look worse at launch then it did at E3. If you think the E3 demonstration was 100% gameplay and it'll look exactly the same at launch, you are either naive or a fanboy

- That visual downgrade really has zero effect on the overall quality of the game

- The constant obsession with "downgrades" and "developer lies" and "bullshots" has made gaming discourse a lot worse.

Oh, and just people know, Digital Foundry already said in the other thread that this "downgrade" outrage is embrassing and scoffed at the comments about the lighting and textures being downgraded

This whole thread is embarrassing

It is indeed.

That is drastically different the suit is no where near the same quality or texture etc. I'm sure it will get a pass though.

Nope.

Look at shadows. The ones that survived the change are in the exact same place.

Leg shadows on the right are the same position and the box shadows above Spideys arm are the same position.

The far building has the shadows in the same position but they are lighter now instead of the darker ones previously.

Look at the far building again. The shadows are the exact same position. Just lighter now instead of darker.

Again it's not a massive issue, apparently just a lighting change but in my opinion it does look worse.

That's just not how it works for games outside of very few developers.

I know but an exclusive Spider-Man game? With Marvel marketing money and push? Could maybe work.

Yeah, I'd rather not let the make believe outrage of infantile gamers dictate how games are shown in the future.

Yeah right. We're lucky that most people still doesn't care about this shit or even notice and still buy their games instead of playing internet detective.

I wish people had to take a quiz proving they actually have a basic understanding of a situation before they were allowed to post.

I wish people got this passionate about stuff that actually matters.

These are the same people that would get angry if someone did get passionate about stuff that matters, too.

They'll throw tantrums over puddles but if you ever want to actually criticize something unrelated to technical specs...

While the outrage is silly, I do think companies shouldn't promote levels of graphical fidelity that they can't deliver on.

The puddles looked same to me (but smaller), the suit does look worse in the second screenshot.

Personally I just want to know if it plays as fun as it looks (if that sentence makes sense).
Okay, then they can't promote their game until the last 6 months, because optimizing a game is a long complex process, especially with an open world game.

This isn't "we promoted a cg video as if it was gameplay teeheehee", it's the nature of development. Like people want to see what a game looks like in development? Remember how BOTW was showed for the first time after its reveal, and people lambasted Nintendo for it?

The people complaining about this shit are the precise reason developers can't be transparent about the process.

Like, christ, how many times has someone asked to see what I'm drawing, I show them, then they respond with genuine bafflement "uhhh why do they not have a face? Why are they missing their legs? Why is the drawing have so much detail on one side but not the other?" Almost like people are actual fucking idiots when it comes to works-in-progress.

At first glance the downgrade seems obvious.

We went from bullshots to prerendered trailers to "in engine" gameplay.

Looking at the pics in the OP there definitely seem to be some subtle downgrades evident. Not sure why people are in such a hurry to dismiss this.

And people wonder why game developers are skeptical about showing off pre-release builds.

I imagine the devs of ERA have been watching these threads with horror. Or maybe not, sadly this kind of knee-jerk "Of course I'm right, the dev saying otherwise has to be misleading us" reaction is much too common to probably be surprising anymore

I hope (and urge) the insomniac team (to) keep their heads buried

Avoid all this nonsense. After launch it'll be forgotten within seconds.
