I bought the game and tried out a couple of pvp matches yesterday. Had a great time and looking forward to more after work!

A guy did a stream with the developers and while they didn't get into much specifics there, they did say they're reading all of the feedback, to keep it coming, and that they're actively working on it.

Time stamped to the part where they answer it.

Had some great games last night, plays like a dream and the community so far is awesome. Really helps when you call out as you're clearing rooms and checking cameras.

You know, I just realized. Basically every map takes place at night. I wonder if we will ever get any day variants or just maps during the day.

Personally I'd love a map deep in the woods around an abandoned mill or something in the UK (considering it's one of the locations already).

A snow map would also be cool. We got 3 maps in Russia and they're all indoors...

Anyone having aim drift issues while in game? Lining up targets with the red dot sight has the aim positioning off during the game. Quick fix is to shake the controller, but it feels like I'm fighting with it to accurately aim. I'm guessing this has to do with my setup with the camera, but I'm at a loss.

I stand about 5 feet from the camera. Dark room. Camera is about at eye level when standing.

If you can try moving the camera above you, looking down on you at an angle.

I read on Reddit that the aim tracker can confuse the camera when it's in front of the headset. So the camera can distiquish them better viewing downward at you.

Wow, reading and watching this game it's the first VR game that's really made me want to put up the money. It's like permanently accessible laser tag/paintballing in your own room.

I'm worried about the playerbase though. How long will it realistically last?

Firewall is the first real tactical Shooter on PSVR, a genre that has been in high demand since the Hardware was initially unveiled (at least going from my own perception of the discussion back then). It also seems to be a genuinely well designed, deep game instead of "only" a fun diversion. The PSVR install-base might be rather small, but consists mainly of enthusiasts - so i think Firewall might be the first PSVR game that has a realistic Chance of developing online longevity (besides RecRoom). If the Devs Keep updating the game, that is.

This sounds like the same problem I had with Farpoint, which is disappointing as I was hoping it wasn't present here. I don't fancy shaking the controller every minute or two.

I think that's the crazy thing. The fact that Firewall nails it so right on it's first try. Yeah, there are changes I'm hoping they make but I wasn't expecting the gameplay to be this good and intense from the offset. Firewall isn't a prototype for a tactical shooter on PSVR, it's the real deal.

It looks like the meta game is designed for the long term. Items like the door blocker and signal jammer have really high level requirements (30 or 40ish, IIRC), and look like they will significantly change the game. The player base is never going to be huge, but it feels like the kind of game that should have legs. The devs have pledged to support it beyond launch, FWIW.

There seems to be a lot of hype around the game and players I have spoken to seem like they are invested for the long term. I have a couple friends (R6 Siege fans) purchasing PSVR purely for this game. I just hope a few of the big review sites pick up on the interest and review to give it more exposure and build on the hype.

Agreed. So good. My highlights from last night were nailing someone with blind fire from behind cover (trophy!), and taking out all four defenders myself before hacking the laptop as last man standing (double trophy!). Having teammates calling out enemy locations using the security cameras is genius!

Yep, that´s maybe the best part about playing something like this in VR. You can react like in the real world, shooting blind from behind cover and stuff like that just dioes not work as well in regular games. Or being able to peek around a Corner with your gun lowered realistically, instead of it always sticking out in (of course you can also do that in games where there is a specific button for it, but not as intuitively or "free-form"). It may not be as competetive as regular tactical shooters, due to a certain degree of forced aim-support and small tracking-issues, but the added Level of real-world Problem solving makes more than up for it imo.

I hope within a month or so we get a ranked mode that is round based.

Overall things I want from most important to least:

1. Host Migration or Dedicated Servers
2. Rounds, best of 3.
3. Ranked Playlist w/rounds
4. Economy Changes (Maybe 10% reduction of all prices, 5% increase to winnings, and a 200-300 credit increase to losing)
5. Nature-based maps

To go a bit more into 4. If they introduce rounds, they could get away with not changing the price of anything but increasing the rewards given due to round increases.

Two things I did notice yesterday that I didn't know (maybe it was obvious to everyone else!):
  • Buy a laser sight for one gun and it becomes available for every compatible gun. You can equip it on pistol as well as primary weapon.
  • Left on the d-pad switches the laser sight on and off. It's always off at the start of a round.

All these impressions are making me want to buy a PSVR.
Anyone know if this is a timed exclusive, or will it only ever be on PSVR?

Rumor is that it depends actually. If it's successful, it will stay on PSVR only. If not, then it will be ported to PCVR... Unless your referring to making non-VR to which that isn't happening.

This thread is making me dangerously close to buying an aim. I just wish there were more games compatible to it to justify the purchase, it costs about $120 here unbundled and there aren't a lot of games I'm gonna use it with.

I couldn't enjoy this game last night on my first play session due to AIM drift. (Yes my camera is already above)

Pushsquare gave it a 6/10. They said the game is really fun, but they knocked it because potentially not enough people will play it in the future.

http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/firewall_zero_hour

i just read that... What are they thinking?

I've never seen a game's score go down because of the prospect that the playerbase might go down?

And how does giving it a 6/10 help out with that? People might see that and get turned off because they assume it's bad.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that before either.

Something about VR just makes a few reviewers lose their minds.

Problem goes further because the review does have some legit gripes. Too much time in lobbies, no rounds, and no host migration. That's fine but it has the part at the beginning that seems to chastise the developers for making a multiplayer focused VR shooter and then caps off the review largely going on about the population.

God damn my Amazon UK order for the Aim bundle still hasn't shipped. I'm afraid I won't get to play on the weekend :( Was really looking forward to it, real bummer.
Anybody in the same boat? I'm in Germany btw. I've only had good experiences with imports from Amazon UK to this day

Is it just me, or does the PS Pro actually look like they just put a soften filter over the entire scene, making everything blurrier? I think I might prefer less blurriness and more jaggies in a game like this.

I don't think so, you just focus your attention to blurriness on pro, because there are no jaggies in this version to distract you lol.

Fun fact for those who may not have noticed it. In the killhouse map (the training room looking map), you can look through the door handle holes to see enemy players.

Blind firing shotgunn blasts while crouched behind a counter is amazing, even if I didn't get anyone haha

Wow that's a nest touch!

It's reeeeeally intense, lol. Very very fun especially if you are in a team with nice randoms.

But man, matchmaking is ROUGH. Takes forever and then there is host qutting and everybody gets kicked. How couldn't they get this thing right? Big oversight.

They'll fix it asap if they want to keep people happy.

This game is so much fun.

Truly. The best way to put is that last night I was like, "alright going to play one more game," but then at the end of each round I was going, "No, I need to do another." Then it happens again.

Personally, it's the first VR Multiplayer game that truly makes me want to keep playing over and over again. :D

Care to explain your thinking with this review get2sammyb ? I see the actual negatives but your positives seem to outweigh it and the whole focus on MP and playerbase as a reason to ding it is... what were you thinking? lol

Well the first thing I'd say is that a 6/10 is not bad on our scale at all. I know that other sites have completely ruined the review scale and there's nothing I can do about that, but for us a 6/10 is 'Not Bad'. This is what our review scale states:

"An above average experience with some flaws, you may still enjoy these titles. A release awarded this score may have evident ambitions which aren't properly realised, or obvious shortcomings which detract from the overall experience."

I must admit I've been quite taken aback by the overwhelming enthusiasm for this game. I think it's great that people are enjoying it enough to treat it like an 8/10 or a 9/10, but I can't see it.

I think when you're playing, aside from some minor PSVR Aim Controller drift, it's really fun; I like what the virtual reality adds to the experience, both in terms of letting you intuitively lean out of cover and naturally survey your surroundings, but I spent most of yesterday playing and I just didn't get anywhere near as much game time as I'd hoped I would. The single player stuff is token, and I'm not a fan of the co-op either, so it leaves the 8-player mode. But I spent so much time sitting in lobbies it was insane.

I think, for me, when you're designing a multiplayer-only game and you're not Call of Duty or Battlefield, you've got to think about how you're going to make the experience fun for a potentially small pool of players. Why not put a shooting gallery in the lobby, for example, so I can do something while I wait? Or, and I know it potentially goes against the tactical gameplay, but why not fill out missing player slots with a bot? I dunno, the whole issue is exacerbated by the single round format and the host connection issues.

I could have waited for a patch and to see how things developed over the coming weeks, but it's never been our prerogative to wait to review a game that's for sale now. I'll definitely be revisiting it over the coming weeks, though, and if it develops a steady community or gets some updates that dramatically improve things, there's always scope for an update or (potentially) a re-review.

But I've been shocked by the reaction to that review to be honest. I thought it was really fair.

I think the problem is that, "not bad" is pretty vague and will probably turn away more people who might see the review since if the best that can be said is that it's "not bad", it must not mean it's "good" either.

Edit: I think discussing the population size also hurts more than it helps. It's a legit fear we've all expressed but might turn off prospective buyers if they feel it's not worth trying to get in.

Thanks for sharing why you scored it the way you did. Personally, no AIM drift here, and lobbies haven't been too bad either - especially when in a group of friends and everyone is chatting about the last match and such.

Please definitely come back and revisit the game once the developer has made some improvements, as so far it's been an incredible treat to play with folks.
