Full Tactics makes the game so easy even at 4 Cell. Just dodge and let the turrets do all the work.

I feel like I hit one-cell difficulty a little earlier than my equipment was ready for. It's been kinda tedious and the game just isn't much fun when it's moving at such a slow pace because of how much longer it takes to kill guys. I might go back down to normal to grind out some cells since the cell bonus doesn't kick in until two-cell.

Having a LOT of trouble and not sure why. I haven't gotten a meaningful upgrade since the statue teleport and have about 15-ish hours in the game. I generally rush for the Ossuary, but have not fought a boss aside from the first boss on the bridge. I make extensive use of traps, which feels cheap, but at times the only way to get past certain encounters. Elite mobs FUCK me up. Those big dudes with the katanas in the Ossuary can eat a big bag of dicks. At this point, none of the things I'm spending cells on feel like upgrades, just side-grades of new equipment, half of which I don't want. I don't want shields, and I don't want sandals, hammers, or the big swords. It's annoying that half the shit I have to unlock is stuff I don't want.

Am I doing something wrong? Any tips besides gittting gud?

Had my best ever run today, got to the clock boss for the first time and beat them on the first try!
Really just got lucky with an awesome yellow arrow trap that tears through everything and then I got a great yellow ice blast as well.

But the level after that boss kicked my ass pretty hard, felt like I almost got through it, but not far enough. Got too cocky early on and had to use both my health flasks too early.

I do have one question: how are you ever suppose to get enough cells for the weapon rarity percentage upgrades? The first one is 1000 (and the others are way more)
and the only time that guy seems to show up is after bosses and I only ever have like 20 cells whenever I find them which has only been about 3 times.

Do you get a upgrade at some point that gets you more cells, or does that guy eventually show up more often?
If not it seems like I'll have to do hundreds of runs (and get to at least 1-2 bosses every time).

You don't have to spend your cells. You can keep all the ones you find early on and save them until you get to him.

Man I feel like I still haven't done much in the game. Any time I read posts, I'm like wtf are you guys talking about.

To beat it the first time and what u normally use is out a substantial amount of my cells on purple, and get both purple mutations (stand close extra dps and reduce cooldwon).

I wanna say my first win was like 6 red, 17 purple , 6 green.

You will do serious damage

I typically rush through the first part to get the door after the bridge boss and pickup few on the way then get as many as possible in last 3 areas

After my third try I beat the first boss.

Goddamn this game is seriously so good. I can't get over the super fun sense of progression, unlocking new weapons and abilities, and the combat. So many options. You can play several different playstyles, it's really great.

-Should I min max my stats or is it better to balance them out to get the most out of my health?
-How useful are shields really? I feel like a dodge puts me in better positions to fight mobs than a parry.
Yes, it helps a lot to optimize your stats toward one primary that you use for damage and stop adding to the others since they stop giving more than 15% or so for health bonuses. As secondary stats I usually go for 5 in brutality, 4 in tactics, or 7 in survival, since their HP bonuses decay at different rates. Then as much in your primary as you can, and make sure all your damage dealing items match that stat.

Shields can be quite useful, but it depends on your play style. One thing that isn't obvious is that just by having a shield in your inventory, you'll get a brief invulnerability bubble each time you get hit. That prevents you from taking a while lot of hours in a short time if you get into a bad spot, and will actually interrupt the whirlwind ability of a couple enemies.

I'm not normally into rogue-likes.. I feel like they are a waste of time/progress. But this game.. Man, really really enjoying it. I have it on the Switch and something about being mobile with it and play it short bursts - just works man.

Only got as far as the Clocktower so far - i'm using all your tips and tricks to plan my next run.

Yeah, it's the gameplay loop / combat. It nails the "just one more run" vibe by each running being a blast.

I dropped it like a week ago. The gameplay feels good but the rogue like elements are poor imo. Too little boss/zone layout/enemy variety for my taste, and just having a very limited amount of item slots is annoying.
I got back to isaac because I hadn't done afterbirth+ and I'm having a better time.

I have question I'm sure someone has an answer to. How the hell does the blueprint bomb/trap work. I threw it at an enemy, made them elite, then I killed them, later down the road, in another level, I found something that says basically throw it at an elite? I'm assuming I did something out of order? Hopefully I'm not required to fill up two trap boxes with those at the same time.

When you throw it at an enemy, it turns them elite AND spawns another item called the blueprint extractor. You have to pick up the blueprint extractor and then use it on the elite after getting its health below 40%

After about ten deaths or so, I gave up and went with cheesing the hand with the Wings of the Crow, which felt pretty lousy and gratifying at the same time (ha!) Im trying to go with a shield build on +1 now, and I can steam roll right through to the king.... I think I got to the point where he'd defeated me so many times, that I just get sloppy and frantic. Maybe my time at this point with the game is sufficient and I'm an old fart who just can't hang any more, but what a great ride it was.

The other day I finally had a good enough loadout to beat Conjuctivius, but then I buttfumbled against the elite in the Slumbering Sanctuary and didn't get the Spider Rune. Blergh. I hate running through the Sewers and Conjuctivius is the worst boss. I just want to get that damn rune so I never have to go that way again.

Stack on Green.

Also, get tough nut from the Sanctuary. It reduces damage from the spikes by 80%.

Conjuctivius is really fun. Concierge has become a snoozefest auto win for me. Timekeeper is similarly not much of a challenge anymore, as long as I use a shield.

I think my problem with Conjuctivius is he's a boss that requires a specific loadout to be successful against, while I've beaten both Concierge and Timekeeper with some grade A weird loadouts. Part of the fun for me is being successful with weird combinations I've never tried before. But due to the nature of the Conjuctivius fight, most Tactics/trap loadouts are just ineffective to the point that the fight isn't winnable.

I've never lost to Conjunctivius and I only use tactics loadouts so it's certainly possible.

Yikes !
Tactics build is clearly the definitive build for the first HOTK kill if you're struggling. Let the turrets do all the damage, focus on dodging and jumping around like a madman.
Nah. You need the health benefit. Not to mention there's very few tactics weapons that give you a damage reduction: only the icw bow to my knowledge does, and slow/stopping statuses seem to work less on bosses as the fight progresses, making them useless (unfortunately as I found out, this also applies to rampart's shield). Yeah turret spam has the damage, but the castle elites will rip you a new one if you somehow get past all the inquisitors.

Also, Heavy Crossbow is so good. When I get a good green hybrid weps I found there's so little reason not to go green.

Sigh... and I had a great 1 cell run going... and blew to much health in the castle. Never once thought there wouldn't be a pot refill before the HOTK. That's just cruel.... I think I need a break, but that combat is so satisfying.

What? I just beat Conjuctivius for the first time with a tactics loadout.

Tried to take the long route these past few times and I think I'm done with that. Taking 40 minutes to still get murdered in two or three hits just isn't worth it.

I tried to extract a blueprint from one of those punchy dudes in the sanctuary. I just got rolled on. That tractor beam move is complete bullshit.

Just noticed that the freeze immunity that bosses develop wears off after a few seconds. Realized that after going into the Keeper of Time fight with just a bow and a frost blast...

Is it worthwhile to go after timed doors? For me to make it, I obviously have to speed run levels and not explore at all.

Yes. The extra cells more than make up for what you miss out on.

With a brisk pace, you can hit most of the speed gates in the game and rack up a lot of extra cells.

Am I right in assuming that the permanent upgrades, like ground slam, teleport statues, and the vines to climb, getting those type of upgrades are linked to a specific location? Because I feel like there's one I'm not finding, and I don't know where to look anymore.

The only thing I can't seem to still do is go up these tall pathways that go upward, that seem like I should have a high jump or something for. If so, where should I find the encounter for this upgrade, because I feel like I've scouted all the ones I go to.

Each one leads to the next. So there's a path somewhere that became available with the ground slam rune, and that leads to the last one you're missing.

Details:
You have to use the ground slam in Toxic Sewers to go to the Ancient Sewers, then follow that path. Next rune is in the Slumbering Sanctuary

Ah, that's probably the area I explored the least. ありがとうございました!

Had my best run yet, got Hotk to about 40% health. I would've done way better but my turret sucked balls, I had legendary ice xbow and the heavy gun thing which was an insane combo, but my turret was only a lvl 2+ and I got beat by the exploding flag things

After spending 20+ hrs playing this game without the ice bow blueprint dropping, I finally got fed up and invested in the hunters grenade, and used it on the Archer. I gotta say, it was a fun quasi-sidequest.

Finally finally FINALLY beat HotK. Only took me about 50 hours of game time lol. I had an insane loadout and he was still hard as fuck. My main weapon was a legendary Lightning Bolt with a +100% damage to enemies modifier without the +100% damage taken part. I had maxed 75% damage reduction too. Definitely want to keep playing and try out 1 cell but man, I think that final boss was way too hard for just the regular difficulty. I much prefer how Isaac does it where the first time isn't that hard but after the first time the game gets harder.

Sup all - I've been playing Dead Cells on PC with a controller for about 20 hours now (probably a little less with all the idle time). Love it, but felt like like I'd hit a grinding plateau without the Ram or Spider runes. Yesterday I passed the black bridge and got through Stilt Village, before dying in the Clock Tower. I unlocked the daily challenge and a few new blueprints, but I still can't get there consistently and can't kill the Ossuary boss that drops the Ram rune.

Am I doing something wrong? When I watch videos of "unlock Ram rune" they have a lot more health than me and are rocking better weapons, etc.

At this point, what should I be doing to get further in the game?

Post some load outs, you might be speccing poorly.

One thing to try and do is take one Scroll in each stat but then specialize in just one. That'll give you some health to work with but focus on weapons strong enough to do work.

If you're struggling to survive, try and focus on Tactics and set deployable guns like Crossbowmatic and Sinew Slicer. If you do go brutality, focus on grenades such as Swarm and Inferno to apply Damage Over Time. Either way, focus on dodging while something else kills the enemy.

Otherwise, do some speed runs to try and unlock timer doors and then just dump those cells into permanent unlocks like recycle, dead man's gold, and health potions. Those really do make the game easier. Also, the "get % of gear at + quality" upgrade you can spend cell on after the first boss is HUGE.

End Boss? spoilers

What is has been your strategy to beat the Hand of the King in this game so far? I feel like I have really good loadouts, but he still does massive damage, and those damn spikes. Whenever he manages to push me in there, that takes away most of my health. The health potions aren't any good, because I'm lucky to get them off sometimes.

I tend to favor freezing enemies, so they last time I fought him, I had 2 really good ice grenades, and reduced cool down time on them, so I could throw them pretty frequently. The problem is, so many of my items end up having effects that damage enemies over time, so my freezes don't stick because the boss is constantly receiving damage from something.

Any tips or strategies for him?

Just had a fun 3-cell win. I was doing a survival build, so I had like 15k health. Then I found some legendary Hayabusa Gauntlets with the 1% lifesteal affix, and that was just amazing. The +100% damage taken isn't a huge problem when you have -75% damage reduction, because you essentially just end up at -50% reduction instead. But stealing 150 health with every hit on a really fast weapon like the Hayabusa Gauntlets is nuts, especially on 3-cell where there are no free healing salve refills. I was able to largely brute-force my way through the forgotten sepulcher, time keeper, castle, and even HotK, not caring much about getting hit because I'd get that health back so quickly.

It's cool how after 122 hours, I'm still happening upon successful loadouts/playstyles that I've never really used before.

Came back from a break and finally got the run I needed to beat 2-cell. Most of my fights with HotK are scrappy, but with this build I completely crushed him, feel like I could've done the same on 3-cell without even having seen what it's like yet.

Finally decided to grab this game on Switch. Pretty excited. I'm sure I'll never even end up finishing it just like Wizard of Legend. Oh well , gonna be fun either way,
