I was curious and the funny thing is the "actual" writer they then point to as evidence Kojima wasn't really involved is... going by a quick googling, he seems to have actually written a decent number of the mainline games in the same way

as in, it looks like Kojima always just does the planning/scenario and then Tomokazu Fukushima does the line by line writing

EDIT:
specifically, it looks like Kojima planned + he wrote Solid 1-3, so it's not that much different than those

The Fukushima thing is a big part of the argument about how Metal Gear was good once and then bad. MGS3 was the last game he worked on, IIRC.

Pocket City is one of those "play until you're satisfied" games.

I'm satisfied. It was a good 10 hours or so.

They even said nanomachines in MGS1. It just wasn't the answer to everything back then.

Edit: God, what they did with Vamp was the fucking worst. Thank Christ Fortune died so they couldn't fuck her up, too.

Kojima is a terrible writer. He has good ideas, but he needs an actual writer to put them into something reasonable.

Kojima should be forced to record a "Behind the scenes" special for everything he makes in which he constantly explains what's going, why it's going on and why he thought it would be a good idea and only if he can do it he's allowed to release the game.

People might think I'm crazy saying this, but Kojima to me is the Quentin Tarantino of video games. Both love long expositions to no end, both have a knack for creating mature entertainment, and Tarantino confirms all of his movies take place within the same timeline, much like all MG and Solid (not Ghost Babel) being in the same timeline.

There is a HUUUUUGE difference in how these two directors know how to pace a scene, though. One is maybe the best at creating tension over a sustained period of several minutes and the other exists in a universe where anything can go on forever because why not?

At least Psycho Mantis' supernatural powers were kept intact in both 4 and 5 with both games having machine/parasite magic explain away everything else.

No, no he's not.
He's the M.Night Shayamalan of video games.

At some point Kojima wrote down "As it turns out, Ocelot wasn't possessed by the ghost of Liquid Snake through his arm, instead he he just convinced himself that that happened and everybody around him went "Yeah, that sounds plausible. I guess you are Liquid Snake"".
He then sat back and thought "Kojima, you did it again"

And somehow he got away with this.

Honestly metal gear and mass effect are in fact the same quality of writing.

Insane amounts of lore dumps from characters who in real life would never go into that much detail.

A focus on character while the overall plot slowly unravels.

Reliance on magical technology to explain away the plot holes.

Made their stories suffer by having their last games be just a patchwork job of tying various plotlines that don't belong together.

Mass effect is honestly just as bad as metal gear.

I maintain that the starchild should have been the party member you lost in ME1.

Well, the starchild shouldn't have existed at all, but since it did they should have done that to fuck with Shepard but whatever; "ME3 is a great place for new players to start!"

Man... There was a huge storm here this afternoon and something like 175 000 customers throughout the province don't have power right now. I checked the interactive map on the website to see if my house has power before I leave work and there's an "outage zone" that stops literally 100ft from my door.... Fuck...

This means that technically I do have power right now but do I risk it going home in ridiculous heat when I potentially won't even have a fan (or anything to keep me occupied really)....

Oh I'm aware of your timezone, I didn't actually expect any of this to happen today. These games are just too damn big, but you gotta start the download some time. I guess we'll see if Mr.F wants in, too.

I'll be able to play once I get my dogshit internet sorted out, my landlord covers the cost but it more or less drops every few mins after 6pm. Which is...great. So on the hunt for new providers that aren't Bell.

Played a bit of Donut County, it's a fun chill little thing. I have some annoyances with the writing in the same way I did with Night in the Woods - something about the tone comes off as a bit too "weird twitter/lol random" to me. I'm with Jeff on the soundtrack, though, was a really pleasant surprise.
