Imagine being so deluded that you believe rules that enforce basic respect of others promotes "groupthink."

Civility is a radical tenet of the leftist faith, you heard it here first.

A quick visit to the old site shows what happens when you don't have actual rules.

Every other post is alt-right trashiness and words like "SJW" and "cuck" are used regularly.

I finally got banned recently after not doing an account suicide back in the day because Tyler saw me criticize the site in a reply to someone... on Twitter.

Why don't you just cut to the chase and write "I got banned for being a shit from an internet forum and I'm FURIOUS about it", instead of all these wannabee vandalism. It's all anyone reads it as anyway.

I do find the moderation on here a bit absurdly heavy handed at times though. No free speech for anyone unless you're in the hive mind!

(Wasn't me tho. I got better things to do with my time than edit Wikipedia... like go outside and contemplate the utter futility of my existence)

This is what it was before that last edit. Not even very good/funny edits.

Seems like the person doesn't like Neogaf either.
"She's a fighter, hold her tighter" probably made that guy laugh pretty hard.

I wouldn't call it a free speech issue at all and I hate seeing that reasoning, people aren't being pursued by the government here.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure ol Evilore just hates the fact we exist. Whose to say he doesn't have any sleeper accounts here??

Do we need to explain what free speech is to you?

All this alt-account talk has always made me curious as to how the mods or admins find the difference between a real and an alt-account. I'm always impressed by that but I can't wrap my head around how they catch one.

It might have been a while since you registered, but the sign-up page has a box you can tick that says "Are you registering an alt-account?" Due to the limitations of the current Xenforo build we're using, checking that box does not result in an automatic ban upon registration, but we do eventually get around to noticing those accounts that have the box checked and banning them accordingly. We're hoping to get this fixed in a future update, though, so please look forward to that!

It's quite easy with all the DNA samples we collect from people's posts. A drop of blood or a strand of hair is all it takes.

It's not really that I'm serious, but I don't edit stuff for free thread views.

Ugh.
I can compare the IP addresses if you want.
Man, it's just weird you mentioned it. Especially since it implies you edit Wikipedia pages a lot (if you really do or not is another question)

No offense, it was just funny to read so I thought my comment should also be funny.

I know another (big) site that lists all banned accounts + the reason for the ban.

It's mostly ip addresses really, lots of dedective work also I suppose, most of the banned accounts are repeat offenders too, which probably makes it easier to catch them I suppose.

The edit history is pretty entertaining:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:History/ResetEra

I'm not surprised at how low effort it all is.
Theyy don't seem to understand how to write.

The leftist antifa users of ResetEra also wanted a safe space for their snowflake believes in communism.
"Believes in communism"

'''ResetEra''' is a pro-gamer genocide [[Internet forum]] that discusses [[video games]].

Gamer genocide hahahahah

. It is a widely known talk space for the alt-left, although many ignore its off-topic forum to discuss video games in excruciating detail. Its members are known for obsessing about framerates in particular.

The alt-left! As opposed to the standard left.
'''ResetEra''' is an [[Internet forum]] that is home to a [[hate group]] that discusses [[video games]].

Haha

It's amazing how many times people have edited to add "hate forum"

Similar to NeoGAF, the moderators (who are actually the same moderators from NeoGAF, not "ex-NeoGAF moderators") are also very quick to issue out bans over mundane and often false reasons, usually in a thought policing manner, which begs the question of what interference, if any, they're actually afraid of.

Les complots!

LOL the edit comment complaining about being censored:

Again, stop doing this. If you want to look "neutral", and "formal", you have to consider all the facts and the facts are that the moderators are indeed the same ones as on NeoGAF who would tirelessly censor the forums of content they didn't like. To be "neutral", you'd have to accept ResetEra is the same as NeoGAF.

It's kinda amazing that that same user has consistently tried to put that same phrase in over and over again.

Being a Wikipedia editor is hell

Oh so that's how you do it! It has been a long time since I signed up for Era so I must have forgotten about the alt question. It's great to know how you all do it now though! I would have never figured it out to be honest.

So then once the fix happens then there should be a substantial decrease in alt-accounts here. That's great to know thanks!

Wait what? Is that why I woke up with a donation bandage on my elbow the morning after I signed up?!
WAIT WHAT?! Then who's the real BronsonLee?!

Funny how people who decry echo chambers and claim to love free speech use their freedom to behave like disgusting antisocial pissants who nobody in their right mind would enjoy talking to.

I agree but honestly, I feel it's much better than the alternative. Especially in the gaming crowd where there is a lot of toxicity. It's much nicer to mostly be able to talk civilly about issues in games rather than just have idiots shout you down about "quit trying to put politics in my games" or dumber responses. Neogaf (before the "breakup") and then this place are the only decent places to discuss games (and other stuff with fellow gamers) I've found. Ok, and subreddits dedicated to specific games (not r/gaming though, ugh).

There's free speech here. Unless you directly threaten another member, in case you'll probably be receiving a visit from the party van, what you're asking for is unmoderated speech, which you'll find better in other more sofisticated places, such as an image board.

ResetEra is US liberal minded. The faster you understand that, the quicker everyone can go about their day.

Also, LOL at hive mind. Thanks for that.

I do edit Wikipedia. Once in a lifetime, at least. The only reason I mentioned it was because I couldn't edit the page.
Ho come on OP, it was a little joke.
I know that it's a joke, but those kinda posts imply I spend to much time in the internet.

You should also introduce a "Are you going to be a troll?" And "Are you really, really not a troll?" checkbox. Should help alleviate all moderation problems from there on out.

Nothing all that interesting really. It was a thread lamenting about whatever the left did now, or something like that, which got onto the subject of ERA (of course) and people were all bitching about how many topics devolved into the same thing. I made what I thought was a sarcastic comment about containment forums and creating one for all talk about ERA.

Apparently I should have added a /s because I was trying to state those very things don't actually work. However people were like,"This sounds great!" and even you know who commented on the idea. A few hours later that thread was born.

Someone tried adding Street Sharks to the wiki, then that was finally enough to set the article to protected. It's over folks.

1) being pre-gamer genocide sounds awesome and we should be totally for that
2) heavy handed moderation is good and if anything they could afford to be more heavy handed
