I'm confused, what's the importance of that tweet?

It's a developer announcing she's been helping write one of the DLCs.
The importance of that tweet is that she was recently hired as a Senior Writer to work specifically for the Spider-Man DLC aside from the main game. She will be writing the story behind the DLC that so many people are claiming is already finished and being cut to sell on, despite there having been a 3-part DLC plan announced since around February of this year.

The Old Hunters launched 8 months after Bloodborne, this is launching 1 whole month after SM launch. Don't even compare the two lol.
The City Never Sleeps is a 3-episode DLC pack, while The Old Hunters is a big singular DLC expansion.

Development on the Spidey DLC started this month aside from the main game. It was planned in for a long time. They specifically hired in a writer to work on it aside from the main game with a view to have the DLC episodes done with almost 3 months of development a piece.

It's the same difference. The time difference doesn't change the fact of how game development works. For both, it's still we finished the game, now we're working on additional content while polishing and fixing bugs in the main game

How many ways can you be wrong?

You claimed that Spider-Man is unfinished, the game went gold last month and dont even try to pretend like one of the most pre-ordered PS4 exclusives of all time isn't going to have DLC. Your acting like its day one DLC cut from the game. The game is 20-30 hours long the DLC is coming out a month and 1/2 later. They know the content that's going to exist so they are telling you what you are buying like almost all season passes do.

Nah they aren't lazy, they're greedy. I'm not isolating Insomniac here, but in general it has been frustrating seeing DLC release so close to a game's launch, especially when the DLC isn't free.
They continue to work on it. They will release it. They want to be paid for the work that they did.

Nothing greedy going on here. It's just that there is a gap in your perspective.

Greedy in what way? The DLC is not even finished being developed. You want them to move the release date up to October just so that they can fit in this piece of content? And then have to go up against Cod, Red Dead and BFV?

Do you actually know the profit margins here with with out dlc included? I mean they still have a budget to make a game and turn profit. They do intend to make money but to say it's greed with pretty much 0 facts at this point is just ignorant and insulting. But I guess everyone wants everything free these days or cry they will bargin bin the complete edition.

I think the game would be better with all the dlc I'm game but let's face it we live in an era where people will defend selling dlc because games cost more ( more like marketing with giant Spiderman subways) but if the game is epic and the dlc isn't preadatory I'll be ok with it.

Announcing paid DLC before the game is out? omg, what crazy developer would ever do that...

oh right...

Didn't you know? According to this thread Insomniac is the only company to have the gall to do this. Pretty sure Bethesda did something similar with Skyrim saying it was gonna have DLC waaaay before the game even came out AND that it was gonna be exclusive to the Xbox 360 for a time

Edit: Also, this thread is a god damn embarrassment. I don't envy jstevenson one bit, having to read people calling him and the team "lazy" and "greedy". JFC

Nothing kills my excitement for a game faster than advertising paid DLC before it releases

This. Even though the fact that there would be DLC for this game was announced earlier, the fact that it's coming out soon soon after launch is what's disappointing. Feels like there should be at least another month in there before it's flaunted and given a release date. Let the damn main game come out first, and then go ham on the DLC talk and its exact release dates

It's like new comic arcs. I love it.
Yeah, I always think open world superhero game seems like perfect for gaas model. In the comic, Spidey usually stays in the city anyway. Insomniac can just update a city a little bit here and there while keep adding new story/mission. It'd be like monthly comic issues but for videogames

That's precisely what I mean. Well said.

You aren't? It seems to me you're holding a grudge against Insomniac Games for some reason.

That's what you posted in another theard:

It's very clearly going to be Spider-Man, lol. Can't wait for the meltdown that review thread will cause

It's okay to think that a game won't live up to expectations. But it seems to me you'd be actually happy to see this game fail.

Well darling, if you read the follow-up response I made in that thread, you would have seen that I said that this game's expectations are off the charts, and even a good score such as 85 will cause meltdowns, and there's nothing I like more than a good meltdown.

Next time, check yourself before you come for me.

so this

"As you play the base game, you'll realize that Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, is back in town and she's leaving clues around town to toy with Spider-Man. In Marvel's Spider-Man: The Heist, she finally reveals herself. "

is the part that makes it sound like cut content

like it's a series of side missions that they put in the main game and then cut out the second half of it to sell as DLC

The first DLC pack being six weeks later is great for me as it increases the chances of me buying it. Six months later, im already moved onto other games.

A lot of people move on from Single Player games after the first month. That's why devs make these announcements, to get people to keep the game.

(No hostility towards you, just using you as an example for the thousands of people that move on after release)

No hostility taken. As a single player only gamer, it's true. Unless im all in on a game before release (like I am with ACO), I move on from one game to the next. Add in the packed Fall and it becomes even easier to move on to the next game. I'll be keeping my disc copy of ACO since I pre-ordered the Gold Edition. Will hold on to Spider Man and if the first DLC gets good reviews and impressions, I'll jump right back in.

It'll be nearly two months after release when the first DLC episode launches. The entire season pass is only $25 for three episodes. What kind of content are you expecting for that price? An entire expansion to the base game? Two months (probably closer to three since this DLC likely went into full production once the base game went gold) is plenty of time to develop a few extra missions involving Black Cat and some costumes. I don't know what your expectations are for that price but they're obviously unrealistic.

This is going to be repeated no matter how much people try to educate others as to how development works isn't it?
Of course. The majority seem more interested in playing games than in games, as in the medium, how games are developed, etc, in the way that film enthusiasts are probably also interested in film design or at the very least, in the behind-the-scenes/making-of side of film.

Aping what I said in the other thread, how substantial are these DLC going to be if they are released just a month apart from eachother?

On a related note, what are Era's expectations for the DLC considering the price and the development time that they probably had to finish this? At worst, I'm expecting an hour's worth of missions for each pack, at best two hours. I have really low expectations for this (I've seen how crappy some of these DLC chapters are), with the main reason why I would like to get it would be the additional suits.

Too early to announce it, but it is what it is. As has been mentioned throughout the thread, Insomniac is not the first developer to do this, and they certainly won't be the last. Similar to The Witcher 3 (also announced prior to release), this DLC could be great.

The Stussining
DLC close to launch is a non problem for me. It should be somewhat well known by now that we are past the days of cutting out already made content and repackaging it as DLC. This stuff would be budgeted from inception to be a DLC pack and not something that would ever make its way into the main game.

No it doesn't. It's literally saying this character is mentioned in the base game, further expanded on it the DLC. It sounds like cut content if you're already angling for that conclusion.

maybe i'm just too cynical about this sort of thing, that's entirely possible

i'm not trying to shit on the game, it looks great
