Sorry, an older season of GBBO is on in my house right now, wife put it on for her mum, who is visiting. I was also stating that I can't imagine what it's like without Mary. And the two hosts I'm familiar with, I'm still in like 2015 I think.

It is a bit strange at first with Prue, Noel and Sandi, but I've definitely warmed up to them all. Noel and Sandi have great chemistry.

It looks like the show will return this month. Is there interest in keeping this thread going, or starting a new one?

Bake Off in 10 hours . .
I guess this is where everyone is going to congregate while the show is on? Can't find any other thread.

My all-time favourite show!

Cannot wait. Last series was one of the best, imho.
Hoping for a bit of 'randomness' to the formula, tho?? Would be cool if they bake in some exotic location.

Strictly speaking this probably ought to have a new thread, but this thread was formed so late in the last series it got barely used as-is. Still, we could really do with an updated OP for the new collection of charming cake crafters.

There is no legal way of watching this in Australia but it gets covered in mainstream press. That's how rampant piracy here is. Nanas know how to torrent and want their bake off,

Looking forward to this.

Just chipping in here to say Sandi Toksvig is a lovely soul and the best thing Channel 4 have done to GBBO.

I haven't seen the post Mary Berry/Sue Perkins/Mel Giedroyc season. How does it compare?
Starts iffy gets miles better.
I am watching later so can fast forward the 40 ad breaks.
Normally for me the one I end up backing is the brunette I am attracted to, that makes me bad I am sure but I'm normally on the money or top 4

Canada gets the show a year behind. CBC is showing season 8 on Wednesdays. Tomorrow is episode 8.

I'm glad Terry's final piece was well received. He didn't start off well.

Briony has been excellent so far. Star baker for sure.

Yank here. Anywhere I can legally watch the last channel 4 season? They're still going through older seasons on PBS.

How big were Wagon Wheels originally? I remember them being big (and me being small) but I can't find a definitive answer.

Found this pic, don't know how accurate it is

Ah, that means the final is two weeks away. Who are you rooting for?
Also, for international viewers, are you guys getting any of the spin-offs? Earlier this year we had a a celebrity special to benefit a cancer charity, and another series with professional bakers.

Great first episode. Nice touch with referencing the cock-up on Twitter from last season.

I was rooting for Manon from the start, glad she did so well. Terry is a very lucky boy not to have gone home. Those first two he did were genuinely awful. What was he thinking with that first one?! And that moustache annoys me something terrible.

Whenever Kim-Joy was on screen it kept reminding me of That episode of The Simpsons where Homer shoots Marge in the face with a shotgun full of make-up.

I like Stephen for season 8. He has been pretty consistent. I don't think he's ever made anything real bad, but all it takes is one bad batch and it can get you eliminated.

There was a Christmas Bake Off special that we got.

Do you guys get "The Great Canadian Bake Off"? Season 2 starts airing right after your season 8. It's an identical spin-off, just with Canadians. One of the hosts is an actor from Schitt's Creek, a Canadian comedy TV show.
Seems only fair that we share our version since we get yours.

Don't think we get any of the foreign Bake Offs, despite three of them being in English. Must be due to the fact that there are always so many home grown cooking shows on all year round. I'd like to check them out though, but for some reason all the food shows are on at the same time right now.

There's usually two end of year specials, so if the Xmas one was the one with Selasi, there should've been a New Year's one with 4 other returning bakers.

Shame you're not getting the Stand Up 2 Cancer specials, but they're full of British celebs who overseas audiences will probably not recognise. Had one of my favourite jokes from Sandi.

Sandi approaches a baker making pastry
Baker: "Is that too rough?"
Sandi: " . . . never had a boy ask me if it was too rough."
cue glorious laughter

Can someone explain to me what seasons are on Netflix currently? I think they should be 5-8 relabeled as 1-4. But series 8("4") shows the old hosts, so I'm very confused.

Edit: I figured it out myself. The Netflix series order is actually 5, 4, 6, 7. Completely bizarre.

hmmmm, ok, this is disheartening. Last season, the episodes were up to download on various ... 'shady places'.

This morning - nothing, beyond a 360p youtube video :/

edit: Dailymotion to the rescue!!!

Either Manon and Briony for the win. Will the UK accept a French winner for Bake-off?

Early season Bake Off is so crowded - I don't know who to boo and who to root for. Surviving bakeoff is down to competent baking and being quirky and British enough for television.
