Can someone try this?

In Photos app on my Mac I cannot play back any of the 4K 60fps videos that I take on my iPhone X. I get a message saying the video isn't supported. Very weird. I can use Image Capture to import a 4K 60fps video to desktop and play it in QuickTime.

I was perfectly able to playback 4K 30fps videos taken with my iPhone 7.

It seems odd that Apple haven't updated Photos app on a Mac to be HEIF/HEVC compatible.

Works fine for me. You're definitely on High Sierra, right?

OLED means less to me when there's not an always on functionality, but that would require a complete rethink about how the OS functions.

A discreet always on, with the time/basic notifications moving around the screen to prevent burn-in, would be a good and relatively simple option. It would also help people know which way round to hold the phone - sometimes when I grab it, it'll be upside down and I don't realise until the lock screen appears.

-Don't really need an always-on mode to appreciate the OLED, I get a serious hard on when I'm in the dark and see a white UI element against a black background looking like a physical LED shaped button. I'd really have to look into this always-on more and figure out if I want the slight battery trade-off and screen burn-in anxiety.

-Loving the cased life. Invested in a couple of Apple cases, one for casual (white silicone), other for srs bsns (saddle brown leather), but absolutely love them, the looks, the peace of mind, the flush back, and the more non-descript look it gives to the phone can be appreciated in many situations. It would take me forever to be comfortable with this phone naked, as with previous iPhone in the past it would require me to accidentally drop it at some point, dent/scuff it, be mad as hell for a week and eventually get over it and stop giving a fuck altogether, but I'm not sure I want to through all that this time around, and the back glass makes it so that one accident might be one accident too many. I've dealt with a glass back with the iPhone 4 but for that phone it was dead simple and cheap to replace the back. Not that I ever smashed it anyway.

any idea when Norway will be getting stock of these bad boys. Its taking too damn long lol
Shouldn't be until well into Q1 2018 that supply catches up and these get available to walk in and buy worldwide. Just make an order already and get it as soon as it can be fulfilled?

If you have already ordered and just don't know when it's coming because you didn't order from Apple.com; phones move pretty much all the time to fulfill backorders.

any good apps that take advantage of X or other features you didn't have previously?

I'm loving Focos and Anamorphic which let you edit portrait photos using the depth map information to adjust the blur and even the point of focus in shots. Pretty fantastic.

One of the better notification systems I had on a phone, the Moto X, would have benefited greatly from an OLED, as it only fires up the pixels it needs to show the notifications on the lockscreen. Instead, it went with LCD and was less effective. It doesn't need to be literally always on, but could light up every five minutes or so, and with movement of the phone similar to how the lockscreen comes on now when you raise it vertically.

Eye candy is nice, but I'd enjoy something like that better. Should effectively increase battery life for most people if the screen doesn't have to be at full rip to check the time or what that last notification was.

So I'm back to Android once again :( I've been using the X for the past few weeks and am just bored with it. Once you get over the screen and lack of bezels, you realize it's still an iPhone and it's still iOS. Android just optimizes itself so much better than iOS (NOTIFICATIONS!). I'm rocking the Note 8 and am in love with the screen and form factor. The hardest part is leaving the ecosystem I've been in since OG iPhone.

That being said, I'm still holding on to the X, in case I want to swap back :) I'll continue to lurk and revel in everyone's enjoyment of the X. It's still a fun little device.

If it's a minimal area of the screen and at a low brightness then you don't lose much battery. Burn is not a problem, you shift the pixels slightly while it's active and there's not going to be a risk.

Apple absolutely should have an always-on feature ready by iOS 12. Time to start taking advantage of a great feature of OLED displays.

The original Moto X used an OLED screen and by far had the best always-on display mode at the time. That phone was brilliant in a lot of ways.

This. I go through this exact cycle lol. I grabbed Apples saddle brown leather case and I'm happy with it.

I bought a screen protector, removed it, and bought two cases and hardly use them. It would destroy me emotionally to drop and damage this thing, but the naked experience is a whole nother level.

You're right, I'm not sure where I messed that up. My 6P was too, but the notifications weren't as good.

I'm the same way, usually I use an Apple Leather case but for the X I decided to just get AppleCare+ and use the phone. Makes a huge difference.

Here's the story:

Yesterday during football, I was sitting on my parents' couch and placed the iPhone on the leather console where it had sat for days when cup holders were occupied. Unfortunately, a friend moved violently on the couch, knocking the iPhone X off the console and through the small, perfectly iPhone shaped gap in the couch.

While reclining the couch to retrieve the iPhone, I noticed a loud CRUNCH sound. Immediately knowing what just happened, I began to panic. With the might of a thousand terrified mothers, I lifted the couch and saw that my darling, new phone was dead.

"Where were you when fone was kill"

The Messages app is so buggy with media. When I try to send pics, sometimes the entire keyboard will disappear and I have to force close the app and start it up again.

No AppleCare+. I had planned on buying that as a holiday present, but now it is too late. I'm about to go to the Genius Bar and summon the mighty spirit of Steve Jobs to intervene on my behalf. Wish me luck!

On hold with Apple right now because apparently UPS has lost my iPhone, despite calling me just a few hours ago to let me know it was ready for pickup. Hopefully they come through soon.

I don't have an X, but this is most active iPhone thread so I just wanted to chime in that wireless charging is AWESOME.

I know android users have had it for years, but finally getting to experience this on iPhone is really great (got an 8 plus). Now my phone basically stays in the 80-90% range for most of the day, I don't even find myself needing to charge it overnight because I'm going to bed with a really high%. Anytime I'm not using the phone I just plop it on the charging pad and voila. Didn't think the feature would do much for me but it's one of the best things about this phone for me from a QOL standpoint.

Also having an SE the past year+ I told myself that I didn't need the bigger screen and an SE was the perfect size....yeah, no. The plus is a bit unwieldy and can't be used too well without 2 hands but man is this thing wonderful to use. Think I'm finally back in the big screen phone camp.

Does the phone still turn on and function? If you try to by AC+ over the phone they run diagnostics but it shouldn't detect a screen crack

Totally agree. Was not something I thought I'd care about much, but it is super useful and I should probably buy at least one more pad for my desk at home.

If sleep cycle works face up I'll switch to a wireless charger for my bedside table. Tired of plugging it in in the dark, and tucking the cable away neatly every morning

So the Coffee Meets Bagel app saves settings on my 6S, but on my X the settings/filters reset like every day. What would be the cause of this? Is the ram not enough in the X or something?

Not sure how Squaretrade verifies that the phone is working when you buy their warranty but you might want to look into that as well

Is this good for battery life though? On charge, off charge all the time. So potentially it's never getting fully charged or able to 0% from full. That's the thing that worries me about wireless charging. I'd be constantly pulling my phone from charge and putting it back on again every few minutes if I'm sitting next to it. But I wonder if it's doing any harm.

$304 later, I have a brand new iPhone X.

They did not have a screen replacement in stock, as expected, so I received a replacement unit at the cost of a screen repair. This new phone shall live inside a protective bubble which I will call...Steve.

This type of stuff isn't an issue with modern batteries

glad you got a new phone! Your accident was kind of a freak thing so I would still go naked with the phone :)

Absolutely, I am still 100% a believer in naked phones, this changes nothing. I've owned every iPhone since the 4S and this freak accident is the first time I've broken one. These machines are just too beautifully and artistically designed to hide behind a case.

In years past I've seen "cases" that are like adhesive decals for the back of the phone, but they have some padding to them to make the camera flush on a flat surface. It doesn't wrap around the sides, just sticks to the back.

Has anyone seen one like this for the X?

Well, my iPhone X froze for the first time. It refused to let me swipe away an old af notification I swiped away hours ago (Messages app). So when I turned off the screen, it asked me for my Passcode. I also could not input it. Now, because the notification was at the top, I couldn't swipe to shut down the phone. I had to hard reset it.

Annoying af
